Is there any real difference between HB Torana and HB Viva apart from the badges?

Not much.

The grille and headlights are round on a Torana, rectangular on a Viva.  Torana had opening rear windows, most Vivas were fixed.  Badges.  The Torana had a certain amount of local content so some bits may be a little different.  Underlying car is the same.

In fact some bits from the LC/LJ Torana are backward compatible and can be put on HBs.

The 1800/2300 Magnum gearboxs had a lift-gate reverse lockout thing which always used to go wrong and pull off.

I don't think Vauxhall knew how to engineer gear sticks properly.

I had a '96 Maxima with a VQ30 in it.  Nice car, good power.  Would trade again.  Probably not though because they are old now, was only 9-10 years old or so when I got it.

3SGE things are low cost, good fun.

Have had a few over the years and never let me down, plus lots of FWD torque steer lols in the wet.

Suspect the cooling system issues are more to do with maintenance, rather than an underlying fault with the cars.

Okay, so I have some cheap China special gauges in one of my cars, because I was rushing a job and they were all I could get on a Saturday afternoon.  They're rubbish.

I'm looking for some new mid-spec 52mm gauges for oil pressure (mechanical) and water temp (electric).

I've been thinking about something off Summit or Demon Tweaks because they have a good range, fair price, can buy online in the evening, my usual place for buying stuff, etc.

Thinking something like VDO

I have to keep derelict vehicles safe/out of sight from the other property occupiers, that is much more of a problem than the council.

Flat battery, no WOF, very neglected.

I don't have those rubber things, but Adrian Miller in the UK does.

I need to rebuild all my wiper linkages so may get some parts in from him.

Also, I have a Weber 28/36 DCD on manifold which has come spare...  needs jets.

Another worthy point is ALL the taxis is Sydney are Barra powered LPG .

I was just in Melbourne and the taxi of choice is now the hybrid Camry. A few FGs knocking about but the BA/BFs must have all fucked out by now.

If you're looking at a B series Falcon, get a BF - as mentioned, so many of the early issues sorted out.  Diff bushes, intake gasket, etc are common failures.

I've recently upgraded BF to FG and the FG is light years ahead of the BF in terms of quality (but still not great, some plastics are thin and cheap - waiting for them to break).

The Barra is a great engine, shame about the car they put it in.

Ask Steeb/UJ/Cletus about the joys of BA/BF Falcon ownership.
