hey mate,
check the connection at your starter from the battery +ve if this is loose or has poor connection it wont let ur starter crank or will crank poorly, also check ur battery condition, if your battery is on its way out u will have a poor start to. check those two things first.
when you say "it just sounded like the starter motor was going but no engine cranking" do u mean the engine was freely spinning and not fireing or was the starter just making a spinning sound and no engaging ?if this is the case your starter solenoid may also be on its way out.
It sounded like the starter motor was going but was not engaged to the engine. It has started up fine today but still had a metallic clinking sound which sounded nasty as was quite loud. I removed the starter motor and got my mates to give me a push start and there was no clinking sound while it was running and the gear on the starter looked fine.
I guess i should just take it into an auto sparky and get them to have a look at it?

would save more weight just removing the spare wheel than removing all that rear trim.
just saying.

hey guys went out to the mad butcher yesterday to get some meat and when i jumped back into the car and tried to start it it just sounded like the starter motor was going but no engine cranking. flicked the key off and on a few times and it started up but now it makes a metalic clinking sound every so often, sometimes constantly. still randomly only spins the starter too. is there an easy way to fix this? i followed the workshop manual on unjamming it and all it said was to rotate a nut at the end of the starter but that does nothing.
car is a 65 super minx.

You can do it without an oil syringe. I just made a paper funnel and poured it in till it went everywhere.

^--- Nice post. Brightened up my morning now off to work.

I am a fan of 80s sports cars but digital dashes are a no no. They plain suck. Cant even see them while driving half the time if the suns coming in over your shoulder.

looks good, bit of white to offset all that flat black
That looks awesome! What wheels are those? Any chance of one with the current wheel combo I have going on?
-
I have a wof so I shall attend. Never been to one yet
-
It will not look good.
I personally think it will look shit but would like to see it first.

How do we go about booking a camp site? And how much is it? I wont be racing at the track day as I still have to get home after but will definitely watch and partake in anything else which is a little bit friendlier on old cars.
Its going to be about $80-100 pp for the Friday and Saturday nights including accomodation, some BBQ dinners, prizes and running the event.
Campsite booking will be done via the entry form and we will take care of it for you.
There should be some locked in details including entry form etc released very soon (I'd like to say a week but that is just an estimation and it depends on everything coming together that we are locking in)
Excellent! Me and the lady shall be attending

I cant see trade me at work but i take it there BC Golds?
You might want to check with a cert man/Cletus that you can make them legal. Last i heard, you cant yet
The ones he posted a link to are the BC golds that come with the stub axle already as part of it so wouldnt be an issue I would think?
-
I used BC Golds on my 86 but the ones where you had to weld on the stub axle bit. Made a big improvement. 8kg/6kg
Not too hard for the road when you turn the dampening on the shocks down.

flappers, chur
That was going to be next but cant decide if they would look alright. I kind of like the black/chrome combo. I will probably mock some fake ones up and see how it looks before purchasing unless someone can photoshop awesomely?
Also none of the panels are very straight. I couldnt be bothered making it look mint as.
The side trim is long gone and the holes welded up by a previous owner. I actually think it looks better, less stuff going on.
-
Any suggestions?

Still havent gotten around to giving it a WOF but should be very soon, am still waiting to get my tires in. Have tidied it all up. Sp far everything works only the tires I can see are shit. Has pollen all over the car in the photos but the matt black actually looks a bit nicer when washed
Let me know what you think.

Its a lot harder to find an LSD for an early/smaller axle diff, seems to be heaps round for the later spec ones tho.
Get it from Japan. I paid 700 landed for a prefacelift LSD that was freshly rebuilt and shimmed up like a boss

I might be being a bit paranoid but usually after I have finished working/driving a car which I actually care about I try make it really hard for them to steal. None of my vehicles lock so I take the king lead with me or leave a wheel off.
-
Definitely done the car justice. Looks amazing. Pretty much what I had in mind when I owned it but was too lazy/had other projects.
Well done

Hey guys I need a couple of bits in my car welded for a wof. I will take photos tonight after work. One is on firewall, other on inner guard and one right at the rear of the car. Will pay whatever you think its worth just not panel beater prices.
Im in Kingsland.
-
Neo, yeap thats the one!. The car floated around that group for a few years back when it was in muuuch nicer condition.
Dave, where in the country are you?
fulloc, hahahaha, i need more than two wheels tho.

I have dropped it into an auto sparky so hopefully they can fix it. Something was split on it and the shaft had a bit of play but he said wouldnt be hard to fix so fingers crossed its cheap.
