  1. Got my fuel tank back today. Was done last week but never had the time to pick it up. Costed $207 all up which I thought was reasonable as the inside was really rusty and a mess of flakes if you shook it. I dont have a before picture though.

Isnt lined but he claimed it was best that way and will last for a very long time just dont leave it sitting for ages with hardly any gas in it.

    Couple of pictures.

Looks a million times better. Look like there was no metal left before. Hopefully can actually run it lower than half a tank and not be breaking down every day, sometimes even multiple times to clean the carb/filters.

  2. Yep I have used a very cheap trademe dual action job and it's great for starting out- I can't see any reason to spend more than $30 for the first kit. If she finds shortcomings in it then upgrade.

A purpose made airbrush compressor is a good idea because they are quiet- adds heaps to enjoyment and relaxation factor having a nice one.

Your reckon the first one I listed is all good? Purpose built compressor seems like a good idea.

  3. airbrushing is gross

    very helpful.

on certain cars and with a tasteful approach it looks awesome. im not planning on brushing on a line of rotors around the bottom edge of my car

and its also not just for cars.

  4. Hey has anyone had any experience with the airbrush kits off trademe? Or even airbrushing in general?

The girlfriend is real good with painting and said she will give it a go if I get her the tools :) would mean cheap airbrushing for oldschoolers if she gets the hang of it.

I am not looking at spending heaps, 100-200 is good.

I have come across these two, obviously the more expensive is better but if there is better options out there I would like to know.

  5. Mine is at western radiators getting done at the moment. He said same thing not going to line it just remove all the rust and the petrol and fumes will keep it all good and last for years and years. I will let you know how it goes and post some pics up. Should be back Wednesday

Mine was really bad apparently. I use to break down from blockages daily

  6. Get better/longer/more suitable springs. Even if it was for a race car that didn't have to meet WOF standards, spacers are still sounding like a pretty silly solution.

    /my 10c

The top of the spring sits in a big "cup" can't really see what could go wrong.

I would need the rubber ones that are a full circle to sit on the top of the spring.

  7. Is anyone able to make me up a spacer for my springs? Hoping not expensive. It's always been a little too low resulting in a lot of scraping and bottoming out. Already trimmed probably 90% off the bump stop too. Was thinking maybe 20mm thick? I will give exact measurements if someone can help out. Was going to jamb some wood in there but that's a bit too rough and want something permanent.

  8. Looks good with those steels. Black with beauty rings never fails. Also regarding you getting charged 225 in labour, I don't know shit About shit but always try do the labour myself. Just wing it man, what's the worse that can happen?

Who does white walls for 25 a tire? I was going to go flappers but I think I'm leaning towards the thin stripe.

  9. Thanks man.

Yep still has vauxhall engine, sounds the business and I'm going to order a bigger cam for it. Most likely triple su carbs cause they cheap and zenith carb on here is real tired and from what I hear always crap.

Car won't be driven too much so hope joints last much longer than that.

I'm going to need some rust work done shortly too. I got bored while waiting for someone to open up the workshop and decided to start stripping back the rust bubbles on boot lid. Not good

  10. Small update,

Fuel tank is at Western Radiators, still waiting on a quote for that.

Took my clutch and flywheel into Autoclutch today, got a call back less than 2 hours later saying its all sorted and ready. Was almost going to be a rebuild job but he had something off the shelf which fitted together mint. Was only $370 so much less than I budgeted for it so got extra cash to burn! Original clutch was off a tractor apparently. Now have a nice sprung clutch and everything is nice and new. Should be alot nicer to drive.

Went round a couple of suspension shops trying to match up some ball joints with no luck so im getting in touch with HBI and going to send the two that are obviously fucked down to them for a rebuild. Turns out cracked one isnt cracked, Alignment specialists in Penrose showed me how they all work and go together and that bit that I thought was a 'crack' just turns out to be where its been reco'd previously and the metal they roll around at the back to hold the joint in is just split open. Makes my job a whole lot easier now since dont have to track down a new one.

Didnt manage to get the rear end out on Monday, was too hot so did a little work then just chilled out. Am back at class now so time is limited as im back to doing 6 day weeks, got to keep taking afternoons/mornings off to sort car parts. They dont seem to understand my priorities/

Also if you wish to discuss my build please do so here. Would love to hear what everyone thinks, maybe some advice? Thanks

  11. If its a NZ raido it will be 26 MHz, what kind of antenna are you using? is it one with the wire coiled round a fiberglass rod? and where on the car is it?

It has a 6 digit phone number to some cb place in tauranga so assume will be on nz frequency. Another sticker says it meets Australian standards and its made in Japan. Antenna looks like a huge car radio antenna, it's telescopic like old bunny ears on a spring base. Ill hook it up next time I am out there and let you know what is does. I only remember not bring able to get it to work

Oh and it's on the right rear 1/4 near the windscreen

  12. How do you find out what frequency your CB runs at? Mine doesnt say on it anywhere. Its a CB/PA system, PA works sweet but never managed to get the CB part working even after hooking it up to the aerial properly.

Its this old school phone looking setup here

  13. Been doing a bit of work on it lately.

Have the fuel tank out and am getting that cleaned out and fixed up on Monday.

Ball joints all removed, trying to track down a replacement for a cracked one. Will be rebuilding the others.

Gearbox off and clutch is out. Got to send that off to get one made up/replaced.

If I get time on monday after I do all that i'll head back out to the warehouse and remove the rear end so I can get the leaf spring mounts swapped over so the leaf is then under the axles. Should lower it about 2.5 inches. Will see if need to play with the leafs after that.

Didnt take many photos but heres a couple of random ones.

Heres a gearbox, still the original 3spd.

    4gkahd.jpg

Slowly pulling it all out. First time doing it so just kind of winged it.

Chassis tag, must try track myself down a G7 engine before they are extinct :(

  14. Im pretty sure if you follow the road rules in the top picture its only a matter of time till someone comes ramming straight into your drivers door. In those situations I always give way to my right like we usually do cause that orange guy isnt going to.

I have never had a problem with the new give way rules except on dominion road, for some reason its the only stretch of road where no one follows it. Have has a few lock ups when someone usually in a large suv vehicle decides to cut across traffic when im turning left.
