  1. So the plan is to extract a mates C52, which has only done 120k, and slap an lsd into it.

This will hopefully save me the replacement bearing kit and new synchro plus I will retain the arm and leg I would need to exchange for them.

Is there a better place to procure an appropriate lsd?

Hope to be mostly doing motorkhana/speed events and track days etc, what one will best suit do we think then?

  2. Hmmm,

Yes indeed, I know a guy with a box however cbf taking it out of his car for him.......... I've already done that once this week!

I will investigate replacement parts before committing to a new box as I know another guy whom just happens to be a parts guy. Should probably ask him bout the lsd too.

Also, it was 2nd synchro that was toasted.

Thanks for your help thus far :D

  3. So the previous diagnosis was correct, bearings and synchro are toast but now I'm told that there is a bigger problem in that the Pinion shaft is munted.

Pinion shafts are apparently a million dollars so might need a new box altogether, Doh!

Does anyone have a pinion shaft? :?

  4. Hey guys

An opportunity to install an limited slip diff has presented itself and need to know what the options are/costs likely to be.

Going into 85 AW with silvertop conversion. Has C52 gearbox having full bearing and synchro replacement this week. Will be used predominantly as track car.

I understand that there are different types of LSD but know nout regarding the benefits/disadvantages associated therewith.

Any advice you guys can offer would be muchly appreciated.

    Cheers

    Chris

  5. ill be keen. will probably have some mates as well if outsiders are welcome?

I think 25-30 cars would be about right - any more then it gets crowded/actual track time drops.

I would like to think that there would be enough people interested to keep it within OS but if we need numbers to make it economical then for sure.

Have been talking to the man who organises the Uni Motosoc track days, he is going to give me a run down of the deal.

This is mostly right. Yeah the Motosoc boys put on a good day, we (the MR2 club) have been to a few motosoc days and they're all good.

re track time/economicalness, every trackday I've been at there is loads of traffic keen as eggs for the first half of the day and then the last half of the day most people have gone home/broken car/standing in pit lane having a chin wag/wasting their moolah

I've been enquiring at Ruapuna lately and it will have to be a week day since there are no weekend dates available between now and Christmas!

Once you factor in the St John hire you'll need 30-35 at $80-$100 each.

You'll need a tow vehicle and a bunch of marshalls to keep things running smoothly etc but the Ruapuna boys are really good and will help you out with all the rules and indemnity issues.

Gives a whistle if you need extra numbers as the MR2 club are keen as for track days

Also pays to have photographer or two floating about too.

    Cheers
