  1. Can't believe the amount of cars here and there's a consistant stream still coming through the gates. So Awesome! Don't know where u got the idea it's warm though, The winds bloody freezing!!!

Yeah, foiled again again by that wind! Amazing amount and quality of cars, it literally took all day to see them all and even then there were a few gaps by the time i got to the end. I have 3 gigs of pics to sort through tonight, about 550 in total :-o

  2. It is indeed shaping up to be a hot one, will be such a relief after the horrible wind of yesterday. It was so freezing that nobody really hung around after the friday night cruise (for which there was 133 cars )

FYI, I only have enuf space on the memory card for 5000 photos today

  3. So the Hammerite is going on sweet, 1st coat done and will look fairly good once second coat is complete. Dont really matter so much what it looks like anywho since i've gotta get the FIA padding for most of the cage so wont be visible much.

re the floor coating, what I'm trying to remove is not the factory paint, its a 1-2mm sticky black sheet stuff that I've been chipping away at with a flat head I assume this is the factory sound deadening (its not continuous across the floor pan, it stops and starts)

Some of this is brittle and just chips away but some is fairly friendly with the floor, is there a better quicker way to remove or am I consigned to many weekends of this horrible torture?

  4. I just do everything like that in epoxy primer and the 2k urethane on top, I get a cheap industrial 2k black that is super hard wearing and looks good.

    chur

any useful hints for removing the old coating? tools etc

  5. aye, so por15 is what's in the shed and have por15 degreaser too so was just gonna use that but this why im asking because painting shit ain't my forte.

So hammerite seems pretty straight forward (after quick google session) and needs little to no prep which suits me.

Another item on the list is to remove the factory interior floor pan coating, is there a specific product that I should be looking for to re-coat this?

    Thanks again for the advice

  6. hey ya'll

been a while/forever, but Santa has come early with a brand spanking roll cage installed to my almost race car and i have to paint it over the holiday break.

Have chosen to brush on por15 and have some commercial cleaner/degreaser for cleaning down cage first.

What prep work do I need to do after cleaning it all? Any tips/hints appreciated also.

  7. just passed a wof on the race car, brakes scored a 55% on braking.

    asked wofer, he said

"dont use a tapley meter anymore, you can just tell".

    no surprises there then.

Also damage caused by hitting a cone front on at 70kmh at ruapuna last weekend was extensive but not an issue.

Went under drivers side, pushed up front skirt/bumper, radiator cowling(?), soare wheel well and the floor pan from pedals to rear fire wall, exited close to rear right wheel scratching exhaust etc

  8. really 42 pages on this frankentoyubaru rubbish?

    Sure its already been said.................

Toyota has enough money/tools to make a great car, this I understand, but I feel they lost sight of the goal or didn't know what the goal was, or had 2 goals but could only make 1 car?

5 easy steps to a massive automotive industry error.

    1. Some toyota marketing genius has the wicked smart idea to bring back the 86 name,

(Every other major manufacturer makes squillions from bringing back long since past models/failing to come up with new ones.)

    2. Toyota does not have a car to put said name on,

(all the good models died in the great "no more fun massacre" of the late 90's/early 00's)

    3. Design car taking basic lines from the wrong car,

    (2000GT)

    4. Cut a deal with Subaru for max profit making awesomeness,

(fine, everyone else is sharing parts, whoopdeedoo)

    5. Make car that is not what it was supposed to be, because its too late to pull the plug or back out etc

This could have been handled better by not calling it the 86 or putting a proper motor in it.

Needless to say, if I win the big lotto I might buy one, put the supercharged 1800 in it, refine the body panels with a nice straight edge ruler and then remove 200+kg of useless bits.

    =super rant?

  9. thanks for the input guys, i have another wof due in 2 weeks (multi-car burden  ) so will definitely be asking about it.

This time its the track car, which has primo brakes, so may have to venture to a place with rollers for peace of mind

And no, there has been no suggestion that action is required on the brakes of any of the cars, so lets hope he is just a lazy prick

  10. Technically a fail is below 50% but is actually more to do what you would normally expect from the car, because a modern car can still easily achieve 50% efficiency with a faulty brake system... Fault dependent of course...

Righto, I wondered if that was the case. Also,

I would say that your WOF man is being a lazy prick and isn't using a Tapley Meter and taking a very uneducated stab in the dark...

On closer inspection the 84 corolla has scored in the 50-60 range for its last 5 wofs.

The same is true for our 92 MR2 turbo, and my 85 MR2 track car.

Previous to 5 wofs back both MR2s scored in the 80-100 range and the corolla in the 80ish bracket.......................

  11. Going back over the wof sheets from forever ago the car has never been over 60%, its got alright brakes (they're just factory toymota jobs) even after fluid upgrade/flush and pad changes so I'm confident they're fine. I just wondered where they draw the line ie would 49% be a fail?

I've never seen my wof dudes use a tapley meter and they don't have rollers in the shop so I've always thought it was a bit off but we keep the cars in good knick with regular pad/fluid changes so I'm not worried.

    cheers for the feedback aye

  12. Yo

So on the wof sheet there is a box for brake performance where they jot down a best guess stab in the dark kind of percentage based on their road test, yeah.

    Q. at what percentage is it a fail? less than 50?

I realise that brakes that obviously dont work correctly would be a fail but brakes that work fine but get say a 52%?

    ok go.........

  13. I would prefer these people to be crushed with the car = double win for society?

If the system wanted to work/get results then the offender, upon being found guilty, would surely have assets frozen and reduced as necessary in order to compensate society.

Then they would be fitted with permanent electronic bracelet that prevented them from operating a motor vehicle forever (I'm sure this technology must exist  )

As with all traffic infringement/enforcement issues the problem starts with poor education and is followed up with a too pc justice system.

dicks need to learn to not be dicks or there will be some actual fucking consequences.

    end rant

  14. But still, depending on the source/cause of a fire, a 1kg $20 extinguisher gives you a better chance nothing at all.

I'd rather half a chance than none at all. I've been in a situation where there was a chance one was needed, thankfully all turned out alright but glad I have it.

It's a shame they outlawed those old school yellow fire extinguishers. (Some shit about the propellant being chrlofluro carbon) I used one of those at a fire training excercise once. I pulled the trigger, and it spat out a big wad of snot onto the fire. And fucking BANG, that fire was out. Leaves all the other shit for dead.

Really, I have a weeeee yellow one in the garage? Probably no use now though?

I wonder what will happen if.........................

  15. How far do you wanna go?

I still love going right at the wheatsheaf, then right again by the top of gebbies pass and up to the sign of the kiwi. That's one of my fav roads. (After the Kaikoura inland route, and the Akaroa summit road) Although my current ride wont be as exciting to drive.

I ain't been up that way for yonks....... might be something to do with having rocks for suspension but what the hey, someone pick a date then :)

  16. I decided it'd be best to give work a miss today and go for a look see, as I have done every year, and it is always awesome to see 20 odd F5000 doing a shake down/qualifying session.

    Soooooooooo many sweet cars.

Have just loaded the BBQ into the car, gonna be out there early for a fry up of epic proportions.

Om nom nom nom nom :D
