  2. Youll be stoked when you get them man! can believe how light they are compared to the factory panels aswell! i was tempted by the carbon fibre panels but theyre not cheap. I noticed restored were doing frp bits of trim now aswell, i would have got some bumpers and hood vents if they were available when i ordered my bonnets and guards
  3. Aha i see i wondered what they were on about when pbt called me haha. are they datsun panels? im sure you you wont be disapointed when they arrive!
  4. more updates from the last month or so in no particular order.. sent the doors to creative colours in nelson to be professionally panel beated, i didnt really want to do them myself as they're such a big panel it would have taken me days to do and i never would have been happy with them, top job done by these guys though! IMG_2307 by matt postle, on Flickr Genuine toyota rear quarter window rubbers IMG_2527 by matt postle, on Flickr Few other parts off ebay.. washer bottle. ta22 radiator hoses easier than trying to make something else fit! ta27 side indicators (these wont fit without modding the new restored.jp guards so might just run the ta22 ones for now). speedo cable (doesnt fit so will roll with the old one this suits a ke20 so it says so if anyones after a new one hit me up! rear numberplate lights that sit behind the rear bumper. also not pictured is the new drive shaft centre bearing IMG_2525 by matt postle, on Flickr new drive shaft centre bearing fitted IMG_2524 by matt postle, on Flickr reconditioned brake callipers my mates brother works at a brake specialist place so got him to rebuild them for a sweet price! IMG_2580 by matt postle, on Flickr gave the front discs a skim, also put new wheel bearings and seals up front, rear bearings and seals in the hilux diff were new and replaced by the guy i bought it off so didnt need to do these. IMG_2596 by matt postle, on Flickr front sway bar was sand blasted and painted, now back in with new bushes etc. IMG_2581 by matt postle, on Flickr Went and saw Ben aka Maxted here on the OS forums, supplied him with some exhaust tubing and templates and being the GC he is he bent it up for me, Cheers man! 5. Yeah man stupid iPhone and shit light, I'm sorting out the exhaust at the moment so the car is jacked up on axel stands but as soon as that's finished then I'll drop it back down and roll it outside and get some decent photos. the panels are sitting in the house so they done get knocked or damaged in the shed. Did you get some restored panels too? I got a call from Pbt asking if I was getting some stuff from restored sent to palmy or Hamilton as well as Nelson, can't remember which place it was now haha
  6. Cheers for putting me onto Ewan at stacked man, real stoked with the new panels will only need minor panel work before paint! Just posted some photos in the build thread! Cheers man, its getting there slowly still looks like a bit of a heap but paint should sort that out, these cars are pretty and have some awesome lines! Cheers Matt
  7. So here are some photos of the restored.jp frp panels as requested by Kyteler who was also a real good sort for putting me onto Ewan at stacked. Pretty happy with the build quality only a couple of minor imperfections and a small amount of damage on the the front drivers side corner of the bonnet which is to be expected when shipping something of this size from japan to nelson. Anyway photos!! (taken the night i got the panels so will get some better photos in the day light). 8. Haha, theyre on my phone, ill try get them up tonight. Got the week off work so im trying to get all the mechanicals sorted then if it stops raining might try lay down some primer! Cheers Matt
  9. Long time no update, ive still been working on the car here and there, lost motivation for a bit while i was waiting on parts, got shit loads of photos so ill have to look through them to find the ones that look like ive achieved something haha.. Anyway tank filler needed sorting, i bought a flexi fuel hose, filler neck and roll over valve from the uk, got here in under a week. then worked out the angles. IMG_2291 by matt postle, on Flickr got a 90 degree stainless bend along with a bit of 6mm stainless plate and cnc'd it to suit the old fuel filler. IMG_2349 by matt postle, on Flickr took the photo before it was bolted down as i still had to drill the hole in the tank for the toll over valve. Also baught some an fittings for the tank, block off caps along with an an10-an6 fitting so i can run braided hose to the fuel pump. The fuel level sender was also reading backwards to it was saying empty when it should have been reading full and vice versa, i switch the wiring between positive and earth but didnt make a difference so in the end i rotated the sender 180 degrees then bend the bit of stainless wire that hold the float and that worked a treat. IMG_2442 by matt postle, on Flickr Next up i noticed that the diff head had bugger all cleance with the tunnel at the back where the rear seat is fitted (about 20mm) so i cut a hole.. IMG_2308 by matt postle, on Flickr IMG_2326 by matt postle, on Flickr IMG_2309 by matt postle, on Flickr then realised i probably would pass cert with a hole where the back seat should be so i bent up a bit of steel, was a bit of a mission as i only had a vice, angle grinder and hammer.. IMG_2330 by matt postle, on Flickr IMG_2335 by matt postle, on Flickr bent it up to fit.. IMG_2359 by matt postle, on Flickr IMG_2357 by matt postle, on Flickr spot welded it into position then borrowed an oxy acetyline torch to warm it up and gammer it around the contours of the existing floor pane/tunnel IMG_2428 by matt postle, on Flickr IMG_2424 by matt postle, on Flickr etch primed and under sealed.. good as new! well nearly, its not pretty but the seat and diff head/drive shaft will hide most of it.. IMG_2450 by matt postle, on Flickr IMG_2443 by matt postle, on Flickr ive also spent alot of time checking out the wiring etc, had to rewire the tail lights from scratch to suit the pre facelift flat tail lights, i also had a real mission trying to find the plug for the reverse lights.. checked all the plugs and wiring under the dash etc, ended up hooking a battery unto the reverse light wiring at the tail lights and tried to trace it with a volt metre, it turned out the plug was in the engine bay hidden right under the brake booster where the engine loom comes out the firewall.. anyway my tail light wiring came up sweet! Reverse lights by matt postle, on Flickr Ill have to upload some more photos and get onto some more updates tomorrow. Cheers Matt //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38745-matt-spitfires-ta22-daily-driver-buildresto/page-5
  10. I got my parts this week, very impressed with the quality, the bonnet had one minor bit of damage on the front corner but thats just part & parcel of shipping stuff from japan. Ill try get around to updating my build thread..
  11. I also know of a place in Nelson that does crack testing in stoke and they supply the paper work required for cert, I got my front struts done for a box of Heineken haha
  12. I know a lot of the guys that run the mot drags and are in nzdra, they own their own car orientated businesses and do everything by the the book in terms of building their cars/hot rods etc that have had to redo a lot of stuff that's all been done to a high standard because the certifier either isn't familar with the car or the way something's been done (more that one way to skin a cat). Also heard that they can be hard to deal with if the car isn't to their liking in terms of make and model etc. thats just what I've heard from a few older guys that have dealt with both certifiers. Not trying to bad mouth anyone that's purely word of mouth but it's from a lot of older guys who build hot/rat rods and V8s etc and have dealt with both certifiers in the past. I've only dealt with Barry so maybe a bit biased but he's definitely a top bloke and more than happy to help, supply info on how to do the build and come to you to view the car and go over any issues before you fork out for the cert test
  13. Nice build man, ive seen another anglia getting round nelson thats been resprayed in a new ford blue same wheels and thought it might have been yours when i saw your build thread. Id recommend Barry Dowler in mot for cert, hes really good and really helpful and he'll come to you before cert and go over the car just to make sure theres nothing blatantly obvious that it will fail cert on, ive heard a couple of mixed reviews for the certifier in richmond.. but in saying that i havnt dealt with him myself, just had mates who have. cheers Matt
  14. yeah mate! i got a call from PBT yesterday arvo asking if i was also getting some stuff delivered to palmy.. I ordered the bonnet back in decemeber then had to wait untill after japanese new year to order my front guards so ive been hanging out to get them for about 6 months haha
  15. Im expecting deliverey of my ta22 bonnet and front guards this week from restored.jp so will get some pics up on my build thread and let you know the quality of the parts once they arrive. Cheers Matt
  16. Hey guys my ta22 frp panels have just landed from japan! currently theyre located in Auckland, i need to get them to Nelson.. 2 packages: 1x bonnet diemensions 142x145x15 8kg 2x front guards (packaged together) 94x32x156 20kg Mainfrieght quoted me $350.. Anyone know anyone that can help (cash job) or any recommendations? Ive already spent close to a couple of grand buying these panels and getting them to nz.. Cheers Matt
  17. Cheers man, good to know! I think I've got pretty much everything sorted by I'll find out when time comes to reassemble it, got to notch the back of the driveshaft tunnel when it meets to boot floor as there's going to be clearance issues with the hilux diff head. Also waiting on front end panels to arrive from japan
  18. Sweet cheers for the info man! Might just buy one of those wildwood adjustable brake bias valves off trademe. All sorted for clips now I think, they're just the ones that hold the chrome trim around the frot and rear windows, got 40 of the for half price but might still need to get some rubber trim that goes around the the doors/side windows. Cheers Matt
  19. Yeah man, not going to lie its pretty handy when i do get the chance to go in there, i worked there in the arvos after school, every school holidays and for a couple of years full time so they know me in there well enough. makes me wish id done an apprenticeship while i was there haha
  20. Cheers Alex, might have to check out scotts rubber ive got genuine toyota weather seals but still after a few bits and pieces and got the clips for a discounted price as i placed a big order. Im in Nelson, car is located out wakefield ways but will be bringing it in to town to get glass put in, wheel alignments etc over the next few weeks/months youre more than welcome to come check it out. Im running a pajero M/C which seems to be a fairly common upgrade for ta22s in aus. never converted drum to disc and would rather get it right first time round instead of having the brakes fail while test driving it haha. My old man is the foreman of the cnc shop at Topliss Engineering and i worked there for a number of years so its pretty handy. Cheers Matt
  21. Cheers Sheepers, im running the mitsi pajero M/C conversion, im guessing the same theory should just apply to this? Cheers Matt
  22. Dropped the motor back in finally.. degreased and painted up the block while it was out IMG_2209 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2208 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2210 by postlematt, on Flickr I bought a factory ta22 t50 cross member off Mike (sleektoy) as it has a radius in one side for the exhaust to run under, as my extractors sit so close to the floor this is going to be handy to tuck the exhaust up as high as possible for ground clearnce but im running a w55 which mounts further back and fouls on the cross member.. solution.. cut it to pieces and make it work.. IMG_2284 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2287 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2294 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2299 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2302 by postlematt, on Flickr //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/38745-matt-spitfires-ta22-daily-driver-buildresto/page-4
  23. Theres a lot of minor thiings i didnt take photos of, blasting bits and pieces painting them up etc, these are just what i remimbered to take pics of haha. cleaned up the interior floor and gave it a paint IMG_2181 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2201 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2197 by postlematt, on Flickr Started fitting the front end and enginebay accessories, big thanks to Mike (sleeektoy) for the passenger side headlight bucket and filler panel. 24. Ive been lazy with updates and pretty slack at taking photos so will try get upto speed with this build thread.. pulled the diff back out and gave it a clean, new gaskets etc thena paint and reassemble. IMG_2186 by postlematt, on Flickr Welded in cross bars for the drop tank. IMG_2115 by postlematt, on Flickr stared mocking up the rear filler between the tail lights. IMG_2122 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2118 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2117 by postlematt, on Flickr bent up some steel IMG_2159 by postlematt, on Flickr Fitted end caps IMG_2164 by postlematt, on Flickr in the process of making up a filler neck that bolts inplace of the filler cap on the tank, also go to install the toll over valve and get some an fittings for the tank IMG_2167 by postlematt, on Flickr bend up some brackets and test fitted the hinged cover. IMG_2279 by postlematt, on Flickr
  25. I had to notch the radiator support panel slightly to get some clearance between the radiator and underside of the bonnet. IMG_2044 by postlematt, on Flickr fitted the NOS celica badge to the rear filler panel and blacked it out along with the tail light sarrounds. IMG_2034 by postlematt, on Flickr IMG_2039 by postlematt, on Flickr also resprayed the under seal and primed the engine bay. IMG_2068 by postlematt, on Flickr figured i do a test spray with the new paint. IMG_2073 by postlematt, on Flickr dont think it turned out too bad at all, exactly the colour i was hoping for!
