I've started saying mine will be done this year too (as I have for the last 4 years) I need to pull finger if im going to. Mine is a lot further behind than yours!
-
fuck matt. Are going to actually finish this?
Better do some work on mine before I fall further behind!

get 4 dodge ram spare wheels of ebay. They are a 20 inch steel wheel (not space saver)
-
Not a rotary based one but still cool

cheers, nar its just argonsheld on mig, had a go with argon and ali wire, but only good for sticking stuff together roughly. got a chinese ac/dc tig for ali.awesome dude. Look forward to hearing how much the alu shuts it up.
Also is the smallest diameter of your collector 2.5"?
If so i reckon you could probably make a bit more power + a decent amount of mid range if you dropped that collector choke down to 2.25" or a sniff smaller and then taper it out to your 3" exhaust
Some of the big 2+ litre hondas are running 2.5" collectors but most 2L i've seen run around 2.25" merge collectors tapering to 3" exhausts, so 2.5" collector seems huge for a 1600
Can probably dig out a dyno pic of some testing on a sr20ve where they tested a few different sized headers and 2 choke sizes if your interested.
Maybe you could make some venturi looking thing that you can tack in just to test it out and see if it actually does like a smaller choke
those extractors started out with 1 3/4" inch collector. have tried 2" 2.25" and current 2.5" which didn't really have any effect at all. but, would be good to test with the big exhaust on there at the moment. have tried megaphones and also sorts, same deal. kinda tells me something else was the problem, being so numb to changes. but new setup is completely different other than the exhaust setup. so start again!
want to get it on dyno some time as it is. recon its making good power for stock cams
Im impressed you've done so much testing. Agree too, must be something up if such changes have piss all effect. Look forward to seeing how the new motor comes along

I love this car

how heavy is an anglia? fucking light. about 600 and something standard. Guessing his is probably about 600kg cause he ditched the cast iron pre cross flow anchor too!
-
cool matt, looks like youve managed to sneak out to the garage a little lately
-
mocked up the front for giggles
Should look alright once fitted properly/all the same color
-
well this thing has been neglected for about 2 and a half months now, but today I picked up a present for it.
This is just the mostly finished plug for a test fit, its going back to the fibreglass guy next week to finish it off and make the mold and a set of 4 flares
tis going to look the business if nothing else

Did you get the VVti up and running and working on this motor in the end? What you reckon about it, was it worht the effort?
-
I was gobsmacked by this beastie at nats. I still have no idea how you didnt crash in a ball of fire. It looked completely out of control
-
k20 engines are fucking sweet too.
Yanks are pushing the 2Ls up around 300whp NA and the 2.4+s over 400whp
Such sweet motors

What about an evo gearbox? Dont some of those run the engine on passenger side and the motor runs clockwise. So the difference must be in the gearbox.
-
That sounds like a stellar idea to me!

spent about two hours last night drinking a cuppa tea and reading the thread from start to finish. Im so bloody impressed, you and Hannah have done such an amazing job. Those pictures of your little spot next to the creek, look idyllic. Well done guys.
Only thing i wondered was where and how do you work on all your cars?
Or is that the next phase get hannah her truck license and then build a garage truck for you and your cars!
-
fucks sake. They really do have you by the balls dont they. bastards

Hey bairdy, I would check with the technical officer on that one. I think you will find the rule will be 305mm MAX or Like you say 5% of wheels base. I think that would come into affrect if you have a tiny wheel base car and you set it back 300mm but the first spark plug was say 10% behind the strut it would be ineligible. Atleast thats the way i interpret it. would pay to double check. Might have to move one spark plug in front of the strut haha

I'll just leave this here

Something like this Lincoln worth a crack?
http://www.arcweld.co.nz/welding/engine ... -1607.html
Seems a good rig and can do aluminium as well? They're local to me, so we could perhaps try the group buy thing if a couple of people are keen to grab something around that level?
Thats the lincoln I have. Love it
Think mine was $1400 trade a few years ago. Would think if you were swinging a group deal they would get it down near that price

Are those 180p BOC ones the ones that have a Three dials? amps, wire speed and inductance or something?
Could be a bit baffling for a newbie. Fuck I cant work it out!! haha
-
How much you wanting to spend?
I love my little 180amp Lincoln. its fucking good, had over 5 years abuse and hasnt failed once. Comes with a little chart of gauge material your welding and wire size = x settings. Was good the first few times I used it. Once youve done a bit of welding though you know what settings you want anyway. It was about $2k retail I think.
Otherwise I hear the mitech are the best of the cheapies.
Dont fuck about with gasless, The welds look like shit and they weld like shit. If you want to have a weld that looks like anything better than snot just run it on gas. If your worried about gas cost run it on CO2 its not too expensive.
Something about 160amp+ should do most anything you need to weld on a car

god i hope so. Would very much like too see it in the reals

You could look at adapting a 120y/180b Datsun brake booster and appropriate sized master. Could possibly give you a bit more room to put your gate there?
Try to keep your fittings on your WG clear of your manifold as much as practical. Had a silvia in at work that had one of his fittings nearly sitting on the bottom of the exhaust housing and it kept heating the bolt up and burning holes in the WG Diaphram. You can disassemble the WG and rotate the top half of the WG 120/240 deg from where it is now if needed.
