Mate had a red one on white OZ rims, about 20 years ago.

Had all the go-fast bits, to the point where it was nicknamed "The Paralyser" because at least as a passenger, you couldn't do anything but sit in the passenger's seat with a grin that a belt sander couldn't take off when he'd launch the fuckin thing.

Fucked a gearbox trying to do helis like the cool kids in their Evos...

I can recall things getting decidedly breezy over 180-ish as the outside air would start to find its way through the door handle cutouts in the door-cards too.

I had a one of those sentra gt cup cars as a road car when i was young fella, they had no 180kph speed limiter and I got the thing to do 195 down one of those long big hills on way back from akaroa. It was whiteknuckle stuff, sounded like the world was coming to an end. Only every did it the once. I expect this to be every bit as terrifying at pace too haha

  2. Haha mint yeah I’m imagining it’ll feel all sorts of 90s car sketchy at speed. Especially cause they were never known to be great handlers haha. I love that everyone’s memories of them was they were fast as fuck.

    incoming old man sharn,

in about 1998 a mate of mine was working for urgent couriers in AK and for some fucked up reason that only coke filled courier company execs can answer urgent couriers bought a GTIR and gave it to my mate as his courier car.

it was branded and all that but he drove it all day every day.

it took me for quite a few rips in it and fuck me was that thing fast.

when your bench mark was a 4M powered shitbox the gtir was light years faster.

why did they think that was a good idea? fuck knows but it gave a bunch of mid 20s jokers a new understanding of what a turbo car was.

Fuck yeah how cool. Was there any pictures kicking around

Nice! It's about time you had a car for yourself again.

90s cars are pretty oldschool now eh?

Yeah guess they are now. Probably means that I am too haha

  5. Rad. Good to see a few others had them and I’m not the only one with problems haha

Really looking forward to getting this one on the road. Last WOF was 2009. It turned into one of those projects where you spent twice as much and three times as long in it as you intended.
Will be a cool little weekend car

  6. Nice. Yeah there was a patch there where you couldn’t give them away. probably a terrible idea for a project car haha. Wasn’t till I got into this I realised how hard it is to find parts for them that aren’t fucked

  7. Nah wouldn’t have been ours. I’m not in ferrymead. Although one of the guys a few driveways over managed to burn down a couple of brand new units a while back

  8. Thanks. Yeah was definitely worth the extra effort. 90s cars have all taken a hiding under there. So tidied up the rails and sills and under sealed it all. While ot was ant the paint shop And got all the bolts rezinc while it was all apart. Haven’t had motor and box out of this one so that sort of lets the whole lot down at the moment.
but I’ll tidy the engine bay the best I can and maybe have a crack at the remainder of it one day

  9. I’ve summarised a hell of a lot. It was way more of a shit fight than I originally anticipated. Some of it self inflicted. Just one of those cars that while you were fixing one part you’d look across at the part beside it and realise that was fucked too and have rebuild that haha

Have also realised I have F all pictures of it or working on it. There’s about an A4 page of mechanical work left to get a warrant. Once that’s sorted ill just use it for a bit before doing coil overs and 300zx 4 pot brake conversion spot light grill and as well as a few other things.

but getting pretty fizzed about getting this in the road. Missed this summer which was the original goal. So will aim to get it legal over winter

  10. I got a new beam through by just doing calcs and showing that the new was was stronger. Was simple though as the original was an aluminium rhs and the new one a piece of chromoly bar. That said it took months for me to come back and say yes and it’s just easier to put a smaller intercooler
