  1. yes. the plan was to get our own inspection premises sorted but that got put on the back burner when mark got suspended, as that halved our income, plus having to cover some of his work (main customer needs me in there pretty much every day, sometimes its 30 minutes, sometimes its 4 hours, and i dont know how long i have to be there till i get there) has screwed my booking system for 6 months, plus i am busy because of the shortage of certifiers.

the main reason for needing 1D is over the years, more and more things have been re classified as having to be done by a 1d certifier. ie a ute with drop spindles didnt need 1D up till a couple of years ago

    Lance Walsh still about?

  2. So, there was a couple of loose ends with the wiring to tidy up, namely the tach and the coolant gauge. Didn't really know how I was going to tackle them but I thought I'd shove the CAN up it and whattayaknow? Tach now works and looks as though the coolant does too, although I wont really know for sure till I heat her up.

Which I can now do with one of the those coolant tanks that fits in front of the left strut tower. So I'm wondering if I should try and pressurise it or let it overflow as an E30 would??

    I also did this

  3. Not a lot of options mate. 5 speed from the 3/3.5 or this, the 6 speed from the 4/4.4lt. Plenty of 6 speeds on ebay in the States if you can find a cost effective way to get them here or I think Hellbm has a couple at the moment. Not cheap at a couple of grand though.

The 5 speed from the E36/46 328/330 and the E36 M3 is the same as the V8 box but needs a different front casing which is also about a grand from BMW.

Somewhere 'round the interwebs there's a guy who used a Transit box with adaptor too I think. Needs a box with a big mouth on it to clear the big arse flywheel.

As for software, I dont know a lot about the programming. I know they use a couple or 3 programmes depending on what you want to do. This one isn't yet programmed, apart from removing some of the factory options, and it may not need it. Will see how it drives first.

  4. Diesel your wag with a French turbo diesel. Get a gearbox out of an LDV van and you have rear wheel drive XUD9 turbo belching dinosaurs but frugally.

Have had this idea with the 540 too using a 6cyl TD. Maybe using a WOF guy who might overlook the rattle from under the bonnet ahem.

    But V8.

  5. Highway driving my Citroen will get Wellington to Auckland and back to Ngarawahia on 2/3 of a tank of diesel. In measurement terms is roughly 40litres for 750km (5.3 litres per 100Km)

It will do combination highway/commute Wellington to Auckland return plus a week and a half of my daily commuting on 2 tanks. roughly 120 litres for 1700Km (7.1 litres per 100Km)

One day I would like to do an economy run of sorts and see just how far I can stretch the frugalness of it.. Reckon I could crack 4 litres per 100Km.

Yup, disregarding RUC for the moment, the new Passat we just picked up (company car but anyway) managed over 1000kms on it's first tank (using about 50ltrs of it) for $80. Open road and motorway sitting.

What's that, 5lt/100k? Be lucky to get the 540 under 12 ha.

  6. A dude over on nzdatsun got some DIY coilovers built by Howat in welly and they did the circlip steez n factory struts and said it would be sweet and his cert guy agreed as well.

Although not sure in the benefit over welding the sleeves on.

Could work quite well for struts without inserts? Saves welding on the shock itself.
