  1. By about '97 the V8's were lapping faster around Bathurst than the GT-R. I don't know much about the spec changes, but this suggests if the V8 guys had of stuck to their guns, they might have been able to catch up to the Nissans? Intake restrictors, boost restrictors, limiting it to 2wd only. There are any number of other avenues they could have taken also, like every other series in the world other than just banning everything except Ford and Holden.

Motorsport is a proving ground where manufacturers develop their cars. I bet Ford and Holdens would have gotten to where they are now far quicker than the long winded development process that has occured over the years.

All those restrictions may have saved Group A, would have been orsum if it worked or they at least tried.

Nowdays with super computers designing cars, motorsport plays almost zero role in the development of new models.

Only thing we miss out on are the specials like the RS500s ect.

Probably half the reason new cars are so dull.

  2. So you're blaming the GTR and 1991 on the change, are you forgetting that in 1988, 11/13 were won by the RS500, in 1989, 10/12 were won by the RS500 and in 1990, 7/12 were won by the RS500.

It was a destruction BEGUN by the Sierra and ended by the Skyline. Why would an Aussie buy something domestic when a shit-box 4cylinder or 6cylinder could RAPE it on track. They didn't mind being beaten by the motherland but by the Japanese?! WELL THAT DOG/FOX WON'T HUNT!

Thats the point though. The Aussie crowds are so parochial that a Jap 4wd coupe was never going to be accepted.

They could probably accept the Sierra over the Falcon, it's a Ford after all. But a Nissan? They were never going to have it.

And as stupid as that attitude is, it was the reality.

Perhaps blaming the car itself is wrong, point the finger at the regulators who didn't see the writing on the wall.

Either way, in pro motorsport, alienating your fan base will kill your formula.

This is what killed Group A. The joke was that the teams knew the spectaters by first name.

  4. Stuff working full time in glasses & gloves.

    I agree.

With the new timber treatments they introduced a couple of years ago, they recommended wearing a mask/eye protection/gloves and long sleeves. Plus ear protection and a hat for the sun!

How they expected anybody to work in 30 degree heat was beyond me.

Covered the suppliers arse for liability though.

  5. The thing with E30's and any BMW for that mater is unless its a proper M car, M325i, M535i or a full on M3 M5 they are quite soft, the differences between a M325i and a 325i to drive is huge,to translate into old Japa speak its comparing a AE86 to a stock KE70, same chassis but one is a sports car tuned for fun and one is bread and butter model designed for old people and both drive completely different. A M325i/M535i gains a whole host of parts no other model gets, beefy sway bars, shocks and springs, LSD, these add up and transform them.

    Anal retentive time.

So called M325i ect are only optioned std cars.

The only 'proper M' cars are the M3/5 ect.

The E28 M535i is the only exception I believe.

For daily driver E30 sweetness, throw a 2.8 from an E36 into a prefacelift E30 with LSD and E30 race series suspension.

    Skids. (on private roads obviously).

  6. So this fella is looking for some exterior A pillar moulds for a 93 BG gtx familia.

Apparently tricky to get a hold of in good condition. He's been quoted $150 each new genuine or $75 replica fibreglass.

Does anybody have any hookups or good condition units? What do you reckon on that price?

Don't know sweet fa about Mazda parts, so any help is appreciated.

  7. Obviously (or, not so) he doesn't plan on spinning it with these attached but this is why they said that stuff above, Markku.
Decided I want it so I can lift the entire car with motor and everything except bumpers.

Will have to have a look at mounting points. The bumper mounts probably won't be strong enough.

Definitely not making it out of wood.

oic. Just wants to use it instead of a hoist?

    Makes some betterer sense.

  8. I'm not sure what your trying to accomplish Simon but every thing in your car is made to be one way up,

ie diffs have breathers etc at the top,

engine mounts support your engine but generally won't suspend it,

you could happily roll your car to a hearty angle with some plates to bolt to the floor side hubs

and two highlift jacks dynabolted to the floor if you just want to detail underneath,

    or buy a hoist.

Pretty good way to fill the cylinder heads full of oil too.
