  1. Thanks for that. Although now Dad seems to think its good just as it is....in other word...hes giving up. lol
  2. Dad thought it might be an easy fit and that's why were considering it. The reason for doing it would be for a 5th gear and fuel economy.
  3. Do any of you guys know whether or not a sierra gearbox will drop straight into a mk2 cortina?

  6. Eeeeee! Look!!! My dash is beautiful!!! The pics dont do it any justice but compared to previous pics I think theres a bit of improvement....An expensive trip to Auckland to go shopping for the Cortina to come home with a restored dash and the paint!! Oh yes...And the heater box is coming along...Just about all together with newly painted parts

  10. Got a good days work done on the cortina today although still feels like I havnt really accomlished alot. Rolled him outside into the sunshine and got these pics of it etch primed. Pulled my heater box apart to found out why its not working and to give it a good clean up. And these things. Whatever they're called. Stripped the fabric off and scrubbed them up, painted and all ready for recovering. Will be attending to this bumper next on list. Any tips?
  11. Woohoo made it to tha sandblaster today. Had the car blasted in all the tricky bits Showed up a few spots of rust we were unaware of. Plus we've seen these I was taught how to use the paint gun so I put on the etch primer Too dark for final pics. thatl have to wait til tomorrow
  12. Bought a sanding machine. Hes nearly ready for the sandblaster. Wouldv been in tomorrow if the air compressor didnt break down. Hoping for wed now. My parts car is just as bad as this unfortunately.

    Dash restoration

Yea I got no idea what they do...whats an oem finish? I want it to look like it never had any damage to it...kinda like new? haha. Write up could be handy please.
  14. Started to get back into it again. My lovely Father is heading up to auckland this weekend (without me cause ill be at camp) to dip my doors, boot lid and bonnet in paint stripper. I found a front valance in good condition. Heres some pics of my gross one thick with bog and eaten away by rusty Got the dash off ready to go in for restoration. In doing so, got a better look underneath and found some more rust. Got in there with Mum hair dryer (shhh dont tell her) to melt the poop to see the damage. Got the boot lid off And in doing so found more rust in the boot gutter. Time to check the parts car to see if that's any better... With the big 21st Party comin along next weekend Im not expecting to get alot done on the cortina. Although, my Dad holds his hopes high and reckons we will be into the sand blaster the following week to touch up what I cant get to. Sand blaster is helping to keep costs down by letting me do what I can in the way of tidying up after him and applying the etch primer which of course he will teach me to do.
  15. Hey does anyone know of anyone who does dash restorations? Gonna get my dash restored while its out. Iv heard of a guy in aucks somewhere who charges around the 700 mark. Is that generally what you pay?

    Cortina Gaps

Oooops didnt measure gaps before pulling apart. Can anyone tell me what the gaps between pannels/doors etc should be?

  19. Im not tryna dampen road noise....Tryna dampen the noisy carbs!!
  20. How does sound dampening mat compare to dynamat. Price wise it is quite different. But does it work the same? Anyone tried it? Im looking at putting it on my firewall. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =219192809 http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =219316855
  21. You could put up some little brackets like what euron8 did for his surfboard and hang this in it. Then your eyes would really trip out!!
  22. Nah its a girls car. gonna look like a rainbow under there
  23. Day 3 - May 20...Last day in Albany. Time to stitch it together!! Decided this should come off to get to the rust settling between the panels. Turns out it wasnt so bad after all On! Hmmm more rust...Theyre always worse than you think. Other side not quite as bad as this side Andy giving a quick lesson on welding Whole new seam! Looks stunning! More work on that left guard Right guard Clean as! These buckets came off the parts car Original slam panel had new ends put on Lining it up!! Running out of time! Didnt fit like a glove so the bucket got pulled off the guard and trimmed to fit Didnt get it all fitted and back together but it's going to go on no probs. By sitting panels on the car and putting doors back on it;s not going to take much to get it perfect. The whole time we were there the weather was Rain/sun/rain/sun/rain/sun....crazy weather that I thought only rotorua got...lol. So with no protection on the bare metal I was a bit worried about taking it home. Was pooring down as we tidyd up the shed between 6-7 then went to the house to pack up. From the moment the car was out of the shed there was no rain. Drove all through auckland no rain. I was stoked at how well the weather was being for us....until Mamaku where we got snow!!
