  1. Yeah the bottom can be hard up against the stub axle (I assume this is the part below the left red line on my picture) as long as you dont weld onto the stub axle, the weld has to be done onto the actual strut as mine is or it will fail cert. I imagine my welder just did it 15mm up to make it easier and can probably get it closer to the stub axle if needed, along with getting that whole silver bit removed from the BCs and I should be in the money. What size wheels and tyres are you running? As my car is in the pictures above the chassis rail at the front is 50mm off the ground haha so cant really go too much lower anyways.
  2. Here is a pic of the actual welding. As you can see they have been welded at the bottom of the silver part. There is 15mm of the original strut exposed and I imagine some of this is going up into the silver part (friend did the welding). So If I cut most of the silver part off and get friend to weld to the bottom of the black part where the silver begins then I can potentially gain 35-45mm off my cars height... Im leaning more towards getting these redone as it will probably cost me about the same to get springs etc. Bit of a bummer but ahh well.
  3. What you not getting man? The strut mod?
  4. Hmm, perhaps I may need to get them recut and welded? Yeah was thinking about spacers. Are they certable? I assume bolt on ones are best so you still get a decent length of thread?
  5. Sweet man. There is no way to shorten the struts that I can think of? The threaded part of the shock has oil etc inside so cant shorten that. And if its wound as low as it can go inside the sleeve then theres nothing you can do. Not sure if yours had TEMS or not but mine did so there is a slight possibility that my shock mounts sit lower down to accommodate the TEMS. Interesting to see hows yours sits when you get them in.
  6. You cant weld them directly to the base or it will fail cert. I got them welded about 15mm up from the base. Hopefully you didn't slide them all the way to the bottom and weld them to the base like the instructions say!! Either way they really don't go low enough. Was pretty gutted. Hopefully a softer spring will sort it though.
  7. Have got new BC Adjustables installed. Pretty awesome bolt in mod that gives huge adjustment. Rear gets adjustable height shocks and adjustable height springs. Front gets full coilovers with body adjustment spring height adjustment and camber adjustment. Front and back shocks get 30 point adjustment from hard to soft. Front shocks needed factory hubs cut off and welded to the bottoms. Then crack tested. All passed fine thanks to awesome welding by SurFab. Only issue I have now is that it doesn't go low enough! Have body adjusted as low as they go and its still about 40mm too high. Looking into getting softer springs to try and droop it down a bit. The pictures below are with the spring hats adjusted right down which gives an OK height but means they are uncaptive. Once I have the height sorted on suspension its back to SurFab for some drive shaft loops and then off for cert. Pics...
  8. Right, been lazy, alot more has happened. Engine is in and 100% complete, been driving around for a while now with no issues. Have had a custom 2.5 inch exhaust installed all the way through with some sweet twin pipes out the back. Purchased some SSR Longchamps in 7.5s and 8s and have had them professionally polished and replaced all the bolts etc. Got new tyres for them and as of today have rolled the rear guards and the wheels are now on with no rub at all. Heres some random pictures since last post: Wheels before polish with not so ideal tyres. Wheels after polish: Andy rolling the guards: Fully rolling with new wheels, no rub:
  9. Hey mate. It's a VR4 intercooler. Fits so perfectly it's like it's meant to be there.
  10. Its alive! 1GGTE fired first pop, runs perfectly. Has a slight oil leak from the oil return on the outside of the headgasket, just going to patch it from the outside as its nothing critical and not worth changing a whole headgasket for! Going in on Wednesday for a full 2.5 inch exhaust. Lined up some wheels to try on to see if they are worth buying, and getting suspension mods under way.
  11. Everything is now complete bar wiring and accessory belts. Very happy with intercooler piping, my friend is a genius for making it as tidy as it is. Here are some more pictures, should be firing it up soon.
  12. More progress, engine is now in with custom engine mount complete and installed. Have polished cam covers back and are now on (weren't on when pictures were taken). All water and intercooler piping is under-way. front part of exhaust is on and fits, will get rear half custom made or perhaps just a full custom, depending on what's easiest. Wiring is now under-way, aiming to be up and running in 1-2 weeks at current rate. Forgot to mention that I have scored the ultimately rare winged front sump version of the 1GGTEU. Looks pretty epic and should keep the oil flowing at all angles EDIT: Who wants a 1GGEU?!
  13. Ok, big updates... 1GGEU is out, cam covers are off and are in getting polished. All swapable parts have come off the 1GGEU and are now on the 1GGTE. Sourced AFM from TradeMe. 1GGTE has fresh seals, cam belt, idler, water pump etc. And is now sitting complete and ready to drop in. Clutch is out and getting pimped at Clutch Systems as we speak, likely to be a 4 puck brass button set-up. Clutch fork was rooted and a new one is on its way from Toyota, also replaced gearbox shaft seal as it was leaking. Have issues with strange mount set-up on my factory 1GGEU, it uses the front mount points on the exhaust side, which happens to be exactly where the oil line goes on the 1GGTE, = lame. So am getting a couple of friends to cut and weld a mount from a Supra that goes over the oil line and will match up to the mounts on my car. So far this looks likely to be the only fabrication needed for the conversion and was unlucky due to it being 1GGEU factory, it appears vehicles with 1GEU uses the wide steel mounts and can be bolted straight onto the 1GGTE, crazy I know. As it is now we are waiting for clutch to be completed and then the 1GGTE can be dropped in, cam covers should be back next week and can go on, and wiring and accessories can start being completed. Will probably put engine in with or without the suspect mount and put it in later when its complete, so we can continue with other stuff. Here you can see the oil line position on a dummy block, exactly where my mount needs to go. Here is the 1GGTE with some initial loom mods done, ready to drop in. Naked engine bay. 1GGEU cam covers before polish, will be using these as way more porno than the bulbus 1GGTE ones.
  14. Engine is ready to go in, just need a AFM, don't suppose you know where to find one? Also I have a friend doing all the work, including the wiring, hes a bit of a genius with that sort of thing.
  15. Long time with no updates. LSD is in. Wheels have been polished up. Had 1 side resprayed as the clear coat was rooted. Have 2x 1GGTEs getting made into 1 as I speak. Conversion hopefully done by the end of the year. Will throw more pictures up soon.
  16. The adjustables are in. Need to wind it up a bit to = rears. Getting new springs and shorter shocks for rear, then wind back down. Then LSD, then engine, then cert.
  17. Took some more photos the other day, only changes are more stretch on the back tyres. Front has been jacked because of a pink sticker.
  18. Pink stickered last night for uncertified rear suspension causing irregular/excessive wear to the tyres. Because of the camber they are wearing way harder on the inside. Sounds like bullshit. Springs are captive and car is over 100mm. Cop was telling me that the distance between the guard and centre of the hub was too small? The tyres def are rooted but that's all I could see would be wrong? Car is going to go back to standard height till I can get some strait answers on height and suspension.
  19. Found some today. Electric and identical to the ones on the white Mark II posted above. Hopefully get them on next weekend, I need to find the caps that go on the door where my old mirrors are.
  20. Id be happy as larry with one of those standard ones. I never realised they came standard. Anyone know where I can get one?
  21. Those photos make me drool. I cant wait to have mine looking something like that. Not really much progress at the moment. I have got new tyres for the front and dropped the profile of them a bit, makes it look a bit nicer. Will try and get the rims polished in the next few weeks sometime. And I am in the process if trying to source some fender mirrors and a front lip. Does anyone know if any other cars have lips that can be modded to fit a GX71? I have heard from someone that VW Golfs have ones that fit??? Apart from that the big mods wont start till next year.
  22. Yep, sure am from Christchurch. Have only seen one of these in Christchurch so far that is a Grande, and it was white and quite rugged.
