  1. The previous owner of that ute is a good friend of mine, and is stoked to see how quickly you are progressing with it!

He spent a fair wack of money getting it painted a little over a year ago, and we were sad to see it go. I'll keep him posted on your progress :)

  2. Oh cool! Hi how are you.

Also whats the dwal with that commer fire truck do u know?

That was still on there from the previous owner - we had picked up the van that afternoon.

He runs Midas Thorndon Quay so you could hit him up there if you wanted more info.

  3. Not sure if this will end up being much of a project, but here goes!

A couple of months ago a couple of mates flew from Wellington to Auckland to pick up a new tow vehicle (Ford Courier), and on a whim stopped in Putaruru and picked up this wee gem. A few texts and photos sent, and I had pretty much all but bought it before it even got back to Wellington.

After a few bits of rust work it got a WOF, it sure ain't pretty but runs well, especially with new plugs and leads. Other than that have done rocker cover gasket to stop a leak, oil and filters and driven it tons. Being the original 1300 and 4 speed it's not exactly a speed demon but has plenty of character. Mum even drives it to school (she is a teacher) and loves it - but has given it the nickname "Pusbucket"

Plans are to chuck some low at it, probably new shocks, couple coils out the front and blocks in the rear - maybe some rims if I can find some for a decent price. Would like some hotwires if anyone has any going?

Apologies for the rubbish photo but only one I have - will get some better one's next sunny day once it's had a clean!

  4. Intermittent problems are a PITA.

Do you know anyone with a scan tool who can check for fault codes for you? Assuming that this has a OBD2 plug on it, you can get some pretty cheap code readers off trade me.

This may be what I need to do! Any idea where the OBD2 plug be, if it has one?

  5. Replace it.

Does it have some kind of factory/aftermarket immobilizer? Any flashing red lights anywhere when it starts then dies?

I am planning on selling it pretty soon, my 82 323 wagon is much more my cup of tea. Ideally want it working before I sell it though! No flashing lights or anything like that, don't believe it has any immobilisers.

  6. I feel like a lot of the time when posting here it is for crappy modern cars... Perhaps that is because older cars are better and don't give me any issues!

Anyways, looking for a bit of advice with my 1995 Volkswagen Polo. I barely drive it, but my mum uses it most days to get to work. 19 out of 20 times, she gets in, turns key, starts fine. The other 1 time out of the 20, it won't start! Engine turns over, but then dies. Mum tries a few times, gets frustrated, and gets a ride to work with Dad. I get home later, and every time, get in the car, turn key, car starts and I laugh at her.

Basically what I'm wanting is suggestions of things I can do/check to try and eliminate the problem, pain in the ass as it's so intermittent, so any potential fix could take a few weeks before I will know if its actually cured the problem!!

  7. If you jump it and it starts fine, then yes the starter motor is okay. If you jump it and it just clicks, or wont crank over at all, or cranks over very very slowly then I'd be looking at the starter motor.

That's what I thought, cheers for confirming :)

Before replacing starter (if that's the problem) check all wires going to it first. I had an annoying problem when my little solenoid wire was loose.

Will keep that in mind :)

  8. As per titles, friend of mine having issues with his 93 auto Primera and trying to figure out what is wrong with it. Haven't been to look yet, but problems starting - so I'm thinking either battery is poked (or alternator meaning battery not charging), or starter motor - as first things to try and check.

Plan is to take my car and try and jump it, if we are successful in doing that, that will likely mean starter motor is fine right?

Thanking you in advance you fountain of knowledge!
