  1. There are 6 or so spots of rust that need cutting/welding. But i was considering blasting for al the hard to sand places, ie floor pan, inside boot and underneath as i am dubious of the underseal.

I have no problem with sanding body/doors etc but its all the fiddling shit a sander wont get into

  2. Yea if the guy is keen to do at my place il have it on stands ready for him. its just a rolling shell at the moment no windows and hopfully soon no guards as soon as i can get a extension bit for my stubby lil spotweld drillbit. The front panel is pretty rooted at the bottom but im tempted to see if it can be patched as most of it will be hidden by the front spoiler

  3. yea pictures have been sorted. Yea im in the process of gettign them off. might take a while, only took me 2 months to get the doors off. im working on drivers guard atm, but it has been off in the past and when was refitted instead of spotwelding on it has been welded from inside the tyrewell in a long weld along the seam.

  4. Well i have been asking stupid questions on here for a while and thought i better show where all the info is going :)

Its a nz assembled 1968 ford escort coupe - 1300 super.

I got it for a decent price with the intentions of rebuilding into a decent weekend toy. I brought myself a mk2 ghia 4 door from the courts as a impounded damaged vehicle im planning on stripping and selling parts from. I am planning on using the mk2 diskbrakes and diff as well as the 1600.

The mk1 had a non running 1300 in it and drums all round, and as a old one it has compression bars(??) , which i may replace with the sway bar from the mk2, any recomendations for this?

the mk1 is the 4th escort iv owned but is the first time i have rebuilt a vehicle so i have a million and one silly questions!!

I have done mechanicals before but this is the first time iv had to deal with rust on this scale so im really flying blind.

when i got it home, looks bad

at this stage im not making major plans for it, but im going to put the 1600 in it, try to get a cheap 5 speed off trademe ( along with every1 else on here), fit the mk2 brakes, fit the front spoiler and fit bubble arches, no idea on colour yet but somethign realy bright with mexico rep stickers. But at this rate body work will take 2 years maybe? still alot of things i dont know how to deal with but im learning. I have a family freind who can do the welding for a small fee but i need to get everything ready first.

Im am in South taranaki if anyone needs bits of the mk2. Cheers for any feedback

  5. It was a guy in New plymouth that quoted me that, he has a portable unit and said he could do it in my shed, i can post his name and number tomorrow if people are keen. Its at work.

Will soda blasting strip underbody seal? or should i leave it and seal over it?

all the bit panels/ body i can hand sand but its all the fiddly aresd bits i cant get to. Im about to start a project thread so people can see how bad it is and if i need to really bother.

Some people are telling me my car isnt that bad, but others are telling me to scrap its so bad.

  6. Can anyone give me a idea on price for sodablasting a car?

I have been geustimated 700 plus GSt to do Mk1 escort, is this about right?

How much crap will it get off, underbody etc?

should i just sand my ass off? (metaphor FYI)

  7. its in south taranaki, He used to have a yard in Auckland. he had a blue merc ute when he was up there.

    His names John Searle.

I dont have his number but PM me what you are tryign to find and i can check with him

  8. The front guards on a a mk1 escort, when you remove the door to get to the rear of the guard are they spot welded on?

I am at this stage and it does not look like they are spoted on.

What is the best way to remove them? Chisel and hammer?

  9. I have had no luck and have stopped for the night. I have wasted all my saturday trying to get them out.

I set my hand on fire, borrowd dads propane torch, which as it turns out leaks as i found out when it flared out the side burning all the hair off my hands. Will search the net tonight for tips on doing it, and try again tomorrow. I am using the proper tool which i only have for the weekend. but not a single pin has moved. and my shoulder hurts from hitting the bar with the hammer. Steel on steel impact gotta love it.

  10. Yea i havnt had any luck. I have asked the local tool shops to source the one from ampro but cannot source one.

After rigning all the panel beaters in town i have been able to borrow one of the Sykes Pickervant ones but cant get the fuckers out.

    starting to get angry

  11. I was just asking really, it would be cool but i allready have a good motor and a fucktonne of rust so the money will be going on that before a 12a lol.

Saw the one and trademe and wondererd how difficult it was
