  1. I dont really like the look of a muffler at the rear of the car, i just want a pure straight pipe out the back like i have on my other chevette. my only main concern is the noise with only 1 muffler in the system, how much noise reduction would there be if i put a resonator in the system aswell?

  2. I am wanting to replace my big bore exhaust on my chevette as i hate the droniness of it and wanting it to be more quiet. I want to replace it with just with a straight 2 inch pipe for asthetics. My exhaust currently consists of 1 muffler and thats it. Does my plan seem logical?

  3. Time for new carpet and seats! (my arse is too big for the small bucket seats installed)

    IMG_0798_zpswt1kify0.jpg

started by removing the existing seats and cleaning up the floor

    IMG_0797_zpsi3db2etg.jpg

modified seat rails, drivers side one took me a couple of attempts to get it right as i still wanted it to be able to slide but without it causing the seat to sit too high in the car

nothing beats working on your car on a saturday night at work.

    IMG_0801_zpsafksxub7.jpg

90% finished product, just need to make a new centre console as the sr20 gearbox is longer and shifter position is further back and a few little interior trimmings to complete the carpet

Bought and installed some new door and boot rubbers from Basis cost $180 for 2 door and boot which i thought was cheap!

    IMG_0772_zpszznw2uet.jpg

    IMG_0771_zpsueb6utw6.jpg

Installed some mud guards, cause I'm a practical kind of guy

    IMG_0774_zpsjurikkag.jpg

Rewired my headlights through relays and installed new bulbs, 100x brighter!

    IMG_0785_zpsxtzak9mh.jpg

installed a bonnet strut so i can chop the front plate out of the chevette so i can gain some much needed engine bay room

    IMG_0775_zpshixxxkok.jpg

    IMG_0776_zpsm6znqlcd.jpg

This is my steering rack CUL8R,  have never seen the casing with the ribs before? maybe its gemini?

  5. hmm Im not too sure now you say that.

Its not power steering but the cert plate says piazza steering rack and the rack looks different to the both types of chevette ones i have seen. I have a quick rack in my white chevette which is also the same ratio as this one so ill need to investigate, ill take some pictures of the rack in the weekend.

  6. yup getting a standard bonnet on it is on my list of jobs, only thing i have to do is modify the sump to a rear bowl to get the engine sitting lower then it should clear.

The Sr20 goes pretty good in it but im not 100% happy with it, idles quite high and lots of hory stuff in the engine bay which needs tidying up.

The main part i love about the car is the piazza steering rack, 2.5 turns lock to lock is awesome.

Ill do some measuring when im in nelson next as my white chevette has a gemini diff, then i can compare any differences

any chance anyone has any old pictures of my car saved from the times its been on trademe? id be interested to see whats been done to it previously

  7. Hey man. Find out if Gemini bits are the same. If yes...3 things.

I have a strengthened driveshaft I'd sell for cheap (sleved the outside of the female spline to stop it blowing out)

I think I have a good Gemini tq tube and rubber here that you can have

I'm sure there is an aus crowd selling heavy duty sold rubber tq tube mounts.

Have found a heavy duty torque tube mount in aussie thanks, but still not sure if it will fit piazza

when you say strenghened driveshaft do you mean the shaft inside the torque tube?

  8. So i ended up buying another Chevette at the start of this year.

You can check out my other Chevette here //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/25371-friendlyfires-chevette-hs-c20xe/#entry643012 which is still sitting in a shed in Nelson as i have now moved to Blenheim. Once i have settled down in Blenheim and have a decent garage, progress will then continue on that one.

So my recent purchase was this lime green chevette (Registered as a Chevanne because it never had rear seats as was used by the post for deliveries) key features of the car is Sr20 engine, gear box, Isuzu Piazza Diff, Steering rack, front brakes.

The car was very rough when i first got it, lots of broken and missing items (indicator stalk, window winders, center console, mirrors, bumpers, rev guage, gearbox leak, front brakes) but all those are easy fixes which have now been repaired.

apart from one thing which i am having a very hard time finding which is the big rubber donut torque tube diff mount everyone that i have tried knows nothing about it and cant get them, the torque tube is isuzu piazza but im sure holden gemini would be the same? so any help with that would be much appreciated.

The reason behind the purchase is that i finished uni last year and scored myself a sweet job in Blenheim but i didnt have a car on the road at that stage so instead of buying a cheap 90's jap car i decided to go old school as my daily and i  love chevettes so it was a no brainer.

The futures plans for this car is nothing crazy at the moment, will continue to tidy it up and add features to improve quality of life as im driving it each day

This is the car as i got it

    IMG_0407_zpsvjc8frsa.jpg

    IMG_0408_zpstlcwxzpt.jpg

Stole the springs and wheels off my other chevette as i am not a fan of driving the chevette on 17" wheels which scrape all the time and on springs pretty much touch the bump stops and get crazy bump steer.

    IMG_0411_zpsvirlf0ui.jpg

Heres the car after putting on wing mirrors, springs the raise it up, wheels, front and rear bumpers

Father and sons car cruze, went out to marahau to catch up with Alex (yoeedynz)

  9. progress update,

have used up my bulk pack of dynamat, done both doors on outside skin, whole roof, both rear quater panals, has made a huge difference, will be getting some more to do inside firewall and floor

    DSC00017_zpsa6eacd4b.jpg

    installed my central locking actuators

    DSC00028_zpsf31bad09.jpg

does anyone know if any model of chevettes came out with central locking? because on the door lock there is this hole unused, which was perfect to run the actuator off, where my finger is

    DSC00029_zps5cbf3298.jpg

    DSC00026_zps42248f8f.jpg

this is what my gearbox looks like with the concentric bearing installed

    DSC00022_zpsb33aa5d6.jpg

passenger firewall with ecu board mounted and car wiring board next to it with fuse box, have completed making the new rear car loom.

    DSC00020_zpsfd2ed06b.jpg

  10. bit of an update on where things are at,

rust cut out of boot and battery box mounted on a bracket to bring it upto boot floor height,

    IMG_0765.jpg

    IMG_0764.jpg

pedal box just sitting there with wire to get the right positioning, just waiting on seats before its mounted,

    IMG_0767.jpg

gear stick shortened up and strengthened

    IMG_0768.jpg

hydraulic release bearing, its all installed now, no pic of it in yet

    IMG_0769.jpg

    exhaust flange water jetted out

    DSC00011-1.jpg

    progress on inlet manifold

    DSC00012-1.jpg

  11. been thinking of exhaust ideas, main problem- standard exhaust exit is on the drivers side at the back

which is on the wrong side for the c20xe, and i dont fancy having to cross over sides under the car making more bends and making the exhaust longer..

second problem- no room to run exhaust over diff on passengers side..

couple of ideas.. cutting the floor to give the exhaust more room..

or the idea a like most is to exit the exhaust behind the passenger door the red dot on the photo

anyone know the requirements for exhaust exit position for cert? or any other ideas on where to run the exhaust

    exhaustidea.jpg

  12. pedal box arrived got through customs without any charges! so all up only cost $800, very cheap compared to a tilton/willwood one is $800 alone with no cylinders/reservoirs (and they dont even make a 3pedal hanging reverse pedal box)

    IMG_0741.jpg

    IMG_0742.jpg

    bits of other shopping,

    bulk pack of dynamat

    IMG_0740.jpg

    IMG_0604.jpg

sump modified and tacked up, will be making a wing out the side of the sump to gain some extra fluid,

    IMG_0606.jpg

    engine mount

    IMG_0607.jpg

    IMG_0735.jpg

    gearbox cross member(bad photo)

was done using this product, same a por15 but cheaper

    IMG_0738.jpg

rust still to fix in the boot

    IMG_0732.jpg

    IMG_0733.jpg

some pictures of the c20xe looking sexy

    IMG_0736.jpg

    IMG_0734.jpg

next to come... fuel system and pedal box, hydraulic clutch setup, wiring!

  14. depends how long gemini diff lasts..
I can't comment on the Gemini diff, because I know people break them for time to time, but the Chevette diff behind the X20XEV making ~100kw at the wheels is still going strong 5 years later. It didn't get abused too badly, but did see some track time and now a skid or 2, so if you go easy-ish it will be fine.

Weighed my flat flywheel tonight and it seemed to be less than 7kg. Pretty inaccurate scale though, so will weigh it again when I get a new battery in the digital one.

haha yeah i just put mine on my old bathroom scales, it was roughly 7kg could be 6.5-7.5 haha, was your diff just standard open wheel mikuni?

ahh nice photo on the diffs, really shows the differences

found more rust tonight.. between double skins in boot, and thin area along g-box tunnel, no use trying to forget its there so more patching to do..

  15. you have a project posted of your chevette gaz?

bias pedal box is already in the making, rear diff is going to be my only weak point, leaving it all as it for now which is a gemini diff, slightly bigger and stronger than chevette, untill i can do it all together(hilux diff, disc brakes, 4link, upright shocks, ect) sometime in the future haha, depends how long gemini diff lasts..
