Just been geeking it up reading about the Ro-80's problems etc and found this, apparently after Audi brought NSU and the patents they built a few prototypes of Audi 100's running rotaries with what they called Gen 4 engines.

During development the cars were driven hundreds of thousands of miles through snow and deserts without problems.

Turns out they finally got it right, according to one site the engineers thought the lack of traction in front wheel drive was a much bigger issue, and started working on Quattro. Four wheel drive won over rotary due to cost of development etc and they went with the 5 cyl and later turbo for the same results.

Design improvements were sold to Mazda and used on 13b I think??

Just imagining how cool a triple rotor Quattro coupe would be, WRC spec etc

apparently some of the triple rotor prototype engines were swiped by the engineers and fitted to cars.

  2. The pushrod from the slave cylinder is adjustable and thats where the problem usually is...

Never had to adjust pedals before, hydraulic systems are usually sweet in that department

Good idea to flush the fluid out too, bets its blacker than the ace of spades.

Wouldnt worry bout double declutching, the synchros in those boxes are tough as

plus with 5 metres of throttle cable and two metres of gear linkage, not to mention 3 metres of hydraulic clutch line your never gunna synchronise all three!

Wiggle the clutch lever into the gearbox and thats where you should feel the two mm of freeplay

2mm there = alot at the other end...

  3. Skoda, mean!!

Had heaps of these over the years 110's 110r's etc all good cars

The reputation Skoda got was not deserved, problem was people confused them with Lada's

The gearbox is an easy fix, the clutch definitely needs adjustment, get into the compartment behind the back seat, remove the panel covering gearbox and adjust the rod till thers 2ml of freeplay.

You'll find the gearbox fill point there as well Drain when hot and fill with Castrol Syntrax.

Bet its never been changed, the gearboxes are tough as

Trust me i've tried to kill them

As with the speedo, definitely a cable lubrication issue, oil it as everytime I greased one it would get worse

    Then do this

    or get real mad

  4. Hope its not the CEM, coz they made out of gold or titanium according to the new price..

Just run a makeshift earth to another part of the car to test, then put a dab of solder on the back of each bulb and

lanocote or grease them before putting in. Used to do this to thousands of FIAT's and SAAB's, Volvos usually mint in that regard.

Unless your driving a S80 then its definitely the CEM

  5. Finally got off my arse and did something usefull, Pulled the head off the Humber, had to hang the head from the crane and use a huge hammer repeatedly to remove..

Found a couple of stuck valves and head and block so full of crap I turned the whole driveway rusty brown for days from power washing it out, half the weight now.

Got sick of greasy stuff so painted the wheels and whire wooled the hubcaps and chrome, came up alright.

Added some Headlamp eyebrows too just for some bling.

Sorry bout shit photos, was dark and 3mp is so not cool anymore..

    More

    humber2.jpg

Started sanding roof as the rust was really eating into it, sprayed black for a test was tossing up between white or black roof.

Blacks so the go, rest stays as is.

Just need whitewalls, Visor, warrant and sackage then ready for summer!

  6. Stoked to see one of my old Merc's here on the forum and looking good ( MichaelJFox's ) So glad it hadnt been matty b'd and brospec'd.

Also walking through Kingsland the other day saw two fiat's I used to own, funny thing I sold both of them back in wellington bout two years apart, now they live on the same street..

Have seen a few of my cars and former projects that id sold to guys so keen and full of enthusiasm end up at pick a part a lot and that always makes me red in the face/ pshychotic!!!

Nothing worse than paying for parts off a car you sold for nuts to a so called good home and finding out its coming back to NZ as a Hyundai............

  7. Ha thats my mate Vegas's old car 8)

Reason for the intercooler was the car was originally non turbo..

But had full swap courtesy of pick a part inc ecu..

Dont worry the guy knew what he was doing so not all bad, Had new injectors too which cost way more than a pound!

The fibre drive for the speedo is known for splintering at either end but is cheap to replace but way fiddly :D

  8. Renault is mint, keen as for a gordini replica

    mediumr12gordiniouverture.jpg

Christ Rover 2000? still tryin to sell a P6, plus ridiculously hard to lower

Volvo is so thirsty, gutless, ugly therefore cool.. But gf is a Fin and therefore hates Volvos and Ladas and would torch/tow/crush any Volvo

    Plus no sex...

    Keen as for a typ 3, esp a notchback with sway-a-ways 8)8)

Be more keen for typ 4 on its arse tho

  9. Have been thinking bout a daily now i've thinned the collection out and taking the Merc off road for well overdue rust repairs..

Especially as the Auckland rain is comin in not too many months and not too keen at risking my life on the scooters.

Toyed with the idea of a modern, boring eurobox- SAAB maybe? Or another E class?

But I hope someone has a better idea, maybe something to sell me?

Obscure, european and OS please 8)

    round th 3g is budget...
