Yeah so instead of doing anything productive on my day off I ended up staring at the VW
and wishing it lower.. Thank god for torsion bars, especially splined ones
So an hour or so later it looked like this-
Should have got before shots in the same spot for comparison as it was jacked up american spec
sitting on bumpstops in these shots, sitting another half inch lower once I attacked bumpstops with angle grinder
Did do some actual work whilst down there, serviced and adjusted steering box, replaced bearings, was going to replace hoses but looks like someone beat me to it recently. Has new calipers, hoses, pads and discs
Fuckin stoked, just need a steering damper that isn't so damp, problem with left hook cars- everything is ex states or germany as they are different.
Ps what is up with BNT wheel bearing kits having one NSK and one AICHI bearing plus a german seal??
If they wern't ridiculously cheap I wouldn't have had a bar of them.. Give me matching FAG bearings or similar OEM spec
Coz I am an anal c*nt
Till next time, will sort rear out tomorrow night and fit up repaired exhaust.
Ordered typ 3 headers and dual quet (??) pack mufflers from empi, said the'd be four weeks so expect to see in four months
hence dodgy bodge of original muffler
Also did Wellington and back without a hitch, apart from muffler dissolving on last hundred k's and inbred mofukers jumping on my bonnet on Courtenay pl.. Cheap to run too- bonus

+1 for pinto

Just finished the VW Caddy thread, epic
-
O and fitted one of those 80 kits, what a waste of time ended up goin slower thanks to flat top piston and hemi head
you need a special head to run those kits- which no one imports, had to go buy 70 kit with proper piston
stupid nips..

Keen to give CDI mish the go ahead, no one has a answer as your CDI is Amstrad spec
Pretty sure it would and be huge improvement
Then its framechoppin time

Fiat Punto turbo is the fastest 1300 that springs to mind, was banned in its home country due to epic amount of
wog fatalities.. Epic easy to tune up aswell
Toyota Starlet turbo is prob as fast, but who cares they look like a teste

Thats a four stroke cylinder you Kn00b
Nifty 50 has flathead screws for headstuds, is lolspec
ancient machines now, best thing to do is flick and start with newer unit
the stifty50's were instant seize machines and were expensive as to rebuild for a twostroke thanks to Honda making parts from unobtanium..
Get a Vespa or Lambretta and harden up ( or come see me for lush 150 4 stroke, weld in and attach turb or nitrous
etc= win

Standard 4 spd with auto diff ratio is all good, used to roll that in Mk1 for ages when diff blew
makes motorway cruising a breeze. Overdrive is still awesome
If ya gunna roll J-type overdrive, find the internals out of the P-type found in Volvos and fit them for epic strong trans
will do skids with overdrive engaged swt as..
-
O and went for pre warrant warrant check today...

Already ordered beam adjusters and shocks, just need money. Will be low with the benefit of making it standard
when the need arises, Have ordered new dashtop for it and screen rubbers, all profit from recent sales gone in one hit.
West Coast Metric are my new best friends and Visa debit..
Shame im losing my licence for 9 months next week..

thanks will keep paint on this one, its cool when there weather worn but to actually fake the weather beaten look is ultimate try hard/ leave it to the Honda boies and Watercooled VW pansies
Its so tight mechanically Im gunna leave alone, gave it a service and she runs mint after two bottles of injection cleaner
be nice not to worry bout twin carbs and jetting nightmares for once, plus auto is awesome as typ3 gearchanges and clutch jerkiness is arse.
Prob do 1835 kit when im bored/blow trans
Also IRS rear end, yay no more swing axle stz

1970 VW type3 Fastback, Cali import, fuel injected, auto
Opening rear windows, out of it thing is theres no hinges. The glass bends...
Yep LHD FTW
Crossply whitewalls..
First thing I did was fit compulsary headlamp eyebrows/pedestrian wasters.
Will post more photos when I strip her down, theres some nasty rust action hiding in places
At moment rollin as is.. May make an appearance down palmy this weekend.
Car has 2 owners prior, orig books, dealer keyring( Fred Lucksinger Motors Ltd 955 Morro st S L O, Calif 543-2800 )
seatbelts and tyres 70000 miles
Dirty rot has come to spoil the party in places tho, mainly behind rear guards and a pillars.

Fuck backlash, just crank it up for whiplash and weld inernals and do a skud
( not helpfull I know )
Whenever I used to change the flange on Escorts ( used to use Zephyr driveshafts and flanges for pinto conversions, now too rare/ easier options ) I used to just tighten them up and never had a problem, you have to really crank them to adjust/ crush tube and you only need it as tight as the nut yyou are undoing in the first place.
Which from memory I used to undo with a 3/8 bar and replace with same bar...
Could be wrong but I always thought Escort diff's had shims to adjust backlash and footprint
like quality cars..
