So spotted this sweet pile o rust late night trademe surfin
brought for sweet fuck all, last thing I need, another incomplete bike project..
cheers to lownslow for another distraction..
Arriving home, check out mean rear sprocket and fail rear rack and seat combo
Super rusty tank, fixable just- but under fake norton badges were original winged Honda badges- score
Stripped, tank just sitting for looks, ordered new battery box covers and front guard from ebay, from chassis # turns out its a 1963-65 Honda CD90 known as SS90 in some markets, first of the OHC motors and the last with the classic small tank frame, joy will fit modern CDI lifan or similar 125 and poss 15" wheels, drop bars and single seat.
Rear guard has been ground off as someone shortened it in an attempt to make a dirt bike out of it and welded the remaining lower part half way up the frame.. Will have to refabricate a rear guard or modify a C50 tail to suit- or leave it cut dunno yet will see after sandblasting..
How it should look ;

You got ohms meter? Try putting your hand over the inlet when cranking- any suction?
Can come have a look later if you want if theres cold ones
-
First gizmo is buzzer/beeper for indicator second is the crank position sensor and last thingy is auto choke- just a glorified thermostatic valve on a timer, they either work or dont and it should start, even on day like this, tried flooding with engine start seing if its firing on time/all the time?
-
check signal from the crank sensor, these fail hard but easy to replace once flywheel off, otherwise CDI in which case aftermarket performance ones are cheaper and de restricted. do both if its sensor
Ps that Honda I got off you is a SS90 201 series and uber rare
stripped now and ready for sanblasting

4 stroke or 2 stroke?
That should be enough to start for either, spark at the plug itself? no cracks on manifold or air leaks?
-
Bike brake cables and choc blocks make good throttle cables.
Cut the plastic off the choc block for that pro look.
At least two of my cars here are running the bike cable/throttle cable bodge + chock block looks pro as when stripped down to brass/factory on the old british shitters

I know this car quite well if its the one at Chequered Flag in Point Chev, used to work on it he started out asking 22k for it!!!
Its had a smash at one stage but is pretty straight, piece of piss to work on as all running gear is Hillman and chassis is Hillman Husky. Id so buy it for that price if I had the coin and that particular hardtop on it is a rare late model one. Buy it and chuck a 289 in it for max win
Ps that guy is notoriously difficult and grumpy, if hes been nice check the car over thoroughly......

Epic win
already in use by myself =)

Ken, may try to have Humber ready to roll
-
Actually think they changed their name recently, but still same guys- same parts etc
-
Collet and Fleming in dorkland is the place to go, still specialise in the big Triumphs and have heaps of NOS and wreck heaps of saloons etc. Used to buy radius arm bushes and other rubbers by the box when doing British cars in Auck, were cheap as and GC's to deal with.

Re-gaining intrest in this project/folly

Although in the cars defense, owing to its low weight and big-ish motor for a box saloon it did go very well when I last drove in it.
It could so own the darby track

Points taken with interest, a schoolmate once punched a kerb at about 60 and bent the wheels under. Thought that didn't seem right, My Austin could hit higher kerbs at similar speeds, without so much as an ash falling from my pipe...
Looks like quick polish, wof and tardme for this one then, or failing that gravel road mish and a few skids before pick a part. Either way- photos in a couple of weeks when I can be arsed collecting it.

Looks like someone had a go at rallying one
Looks like this heap tho...

Just been offered a Pontiac Le Mans (lemon) by a friend, has been in their ownership from new and is the booted model with the 2L and auto trans. I know these are understeer world champions- but based on the Opel Kadett E, so there must be tuning bits/drivetrain swaps possible, the reason I ask is I've always wanted to make a clubracer or rally car- and this seems like a good starting point. A friend has agreed to go halves and store the project, and we would compete in it together.
Does this seem like a good car to modify or race?
Thoughts? Inspiration?

seems to be a lack of primer patches down south..
Good turn out tho, be lucky to get one that big in Wgtn or Auck even
-
Please stay away from nolathanes, dont try to improve on perfection (Morris roadholding) besides those bottom trunnions so wont appreciate the lack of rubber cushioning etc.
Lever arms are so sweet, use heavier oil to uprate, easy as I love lever arms
Anti roll bar and anti tramp bar FTW
You got the lowlight guards as well? Full lowlight conversion would own, with Alta and shorrock of course
-
Looking mint, those things are a pain in the arse to prep/straighten
what happened to the lowlight 4 door stz? Or did I dream that?
Please adjust torsions at next available instance please, ta
What wheels you going with? You rollin crossplys or goin for the van wheels?

Hutt river bank is Escort's natural habitat, made cooler by the addition of concrete obstacles, made nessecary by myself and others circa 2000

Nah, everyone knows 1.5 is a lame engine size. Zetec is the future for small Fords
-
Cool, bet it will fly now.
Now that thats done buy this please

Yeah location would help.... Im in Wellington now and the car has followed me there, would happily transport the car for a good quality job- at the right price, but prob only in lower nth island.

Time has come to rationalise the fleet, the only one i'll be keeping is my Jaguar, which is looking a bit worse for wear after several moves and idiot freightage companies. Body is dead straight and rustfree but owing to its size and complex curves I want it done right. Also the colour of mettalic Dunhill blue is hard to match/spray right so i've heard.
Any advice would be appreciated
Heres a similar car in the same colour, what im hoping to achieve..
Classic car rego

Surely its from date of manufacture?? Otherwise what about imported classic?
a car of mine clicked over the 40 year mark a few years ago and when i went to register it took some explaining, reminding and a phonecall to get classic rego, seems there needs to be some clarification on this for sure...
