  1. Howdy, I'm getting close to completing the full range of letters and numbers for the old style replica plates that I make, like this:

    kd6751.jpg

I have all the numbers, and I just need these letters now:

    C, N, O, P, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z

If anyone has good quality (front-on) photos of black plates with those letters, I would really appreciate it if I could see them. Post 'em up here, or PM me, or email me at brent@doozi.co.nz.

    Cheers,

    Brent.

  2. Makes no sense.

Starts with a Cosmo, sevens in the middle, ends with an 8.

Mostly agree. Maybe their logic was, these are the Mazdas produced with only rotary engines, rather than the ones that also had piston equivalents. But then, it should have a JC Cosmo shown too.

I like the rotor-shaped border, and may use that for one of my designs.

  3. What about the little turbo motor out of a daihatsu yrv? 1.3 turbo.

Still, turbo kit for midget instead?

I'll need to have a measure up to see if there's room for a big block 1.3L turbo.

A turbo kit for the existing midget is something I'll look into. I just don't know anything about the internals of the current engine at the moment (comp. ratio, strength, etc). I'd still need to swap the gearbox out for a 5-speed though, as there's no point in getting to a top speed of 80km/h any quicker.

  4. So, tell me about engine repower options and ideas for the Midget.

I'm thinking somewhere between 60-120hp will do, up from the factory 30-odd hp.

If I use another road car engine, I'd want to keep it in the Daihatsu family, so a 660cc EF-DET DOHC 12V Turbo from a Move or Terios Kid would be good, if I can find one. They produce around 64hp standard.

Another option could be a motorbike engine, which I haven't looked into much yet.

  5. I agree about the comparison between the 40s-70s cars and vintage cars.

I'd be interested to know if the vintage cars ever went through a stage of increased value then a drop, or did they not go through a substantial price rise in the first place? Ignoring the mega-dollar rarities and luxury models, that is.

  6. Does anyone else feel like they are about 10 years behind where they'd like to be financially, and the prices of their dream cars are increasing at a rate that keeps them just out of reach?

I find this global increase in old car prices a little odd, and I wonder how long it's going to last. Who's going to buy all the $100k Kombis, Falcons and Chargers when the baby boomers die out? Sure, us younger folk may like those cars, but not to the extent that the previous generation does.

Then take a look at modern cars like the R34 GT-Rs and R35s, which are already increasing in price in many markets. Are these going to come down again at some point, or are they only going to increase in value?

  7. I drove the Midget into town and back twice yesterday. Sitting at 80km/h most of the way along the main road, but it felt like it was even slower than that. So I used a speedometer app on my phone on the way home, and the 80km/h reading on the dash is actually only 70km/h irl. Fffuuu.

It's so much fun once I get into town though!

  8. The first time I broke a strop, it was because a car slammed into my trailer at a fairly high speed. It was my fault this time though, as I misjudged how sharp the crossmember was, and it eventually cut through it.

What kind of a word is 'strop', anyway.
