  1. Cheers Kyteler

Even more so when the boats been built by a Barry and nothing is interchangeable, for example notice steering is on the left...

After looking into my shift issues and pouring over parts diagrams, it looks like we have a problem.

The shift cam must have flipped when i was changing the impellor. Its now facing 'down', and thus has reversed my shift pattern.

im going to try and flip it back over using the tiny access granted by removing the shift shaft. Its going to be painful, im going to want to throw something.

Otherwise il have to remove the entire bearing carrier/ prop shaft assembly and do it from the back.

    Good times with boats!

  2. Had issue after issue with getting this in the water. Life got in the way

Had an afternoon free yesterday so decided to roll this out of the shed and give it a go

Took a while to start but finally fired up with a smooth steady idle.

Bundled up wife and three kids, launched the boat, found the first major issue - the gear selection was reversed. Put it in reverse to got forward spec.

Motored out of napier harbour, put it in forward and disconnected the shift cable (throttle is limited in reverse), gave it some beans and found the second major issue

It wont rev over 3000 rpm, not quite enough to get the boat on the plane. My gut feeling is that its way overpropped. I need to check that the throttles are opening fully, but i might just go and get another prop before i look into it much more. The prop on it looks very grabby, but has no pitch numbers to compare. The gear reversal can be easily fixed i think, instead of putting the cable onto the push lug i need to put it on the pull lug inside the control box. I was looking for an excuse to open up the control box anyway and attach a temp guage and warning LED's to the various sensor output wires in there.

The good news is that the outboard is charging, starts and stops first pop, and is smooth and quiet

We still motored out to spot x, and had a hour of good fishing, came home with 10 gurnard and some kahawai for smoking. The cats will be happy!

  3. Took old motor off, put new motor on.

Wired new motor, went to trim it up, solendoids clicking but no movement from pump motor. Bugger

Had to remove one side of mounting bracket to get at this bugger.

Cracked it open to find that the commutator and bushes were covered in oxide

Sanded them back and hit it with a liberal amount of contact cleaner

Put back together and is working ok, a little noisy and a little slow, will replace in future.

Leaves me with this- Ready to start on a fine day with no kids.

  4. "So by that logic, anything you buy from a second hand store or a one line trade and exchange add (without ANY description) is now basically under a warranty"

Nope, anything you buy from a store or trader is covered under consumer guarantees act. This can only happen if you sell or buy privately.

Yep, agreed with above, i got shafted, it sets an extremely dangerous precedent. I cant be bothered taking it any further, il pay the court enforced payment and be done with it.

If you purchased a car from trademe, where the seller says it runs fine etc, and you DONT get a pre purchase inspection, and purchase it sight unseen...

NOTHING stops you from bringing it to a garage and asking them to replace the gearbox because its old, or replace every gasket on the motor because the block is dirty, then taking the seller to small claims to get them to pay for it.

All the garage needs to say is that the block was dirty, therefore its likely it had oil leaks, and because the oil leaks were not stated on the trademe auction, the seller has misrepresented the product and therefore you are entitled to the damages caused by the seller misrepresenting said product. The system is Fkkd, the mediator has no idea what a block is, or gearbox is, all they look at is that one person 'had' to take it to a mechanic, and they replaced some bits.

  5. Update

My Name is Sgtjackass, and this is my story

So i went to court to 'mediate' this thing. I brought with me a stack of invoices for the parts i had replaced which showed all the 'failed' components were brand new. He presented his case, i presented mine, i thought mine was rock solid.

Turns out, none of it mattered in the end. It came down to facts.

    1) He didn't get a prepurchase inspection, or ask me any questions on trademe. Therefore, he was in a better position as he was purchasing from the description alone.

    2) In the months he had it and used it, the motor broke down.

    3) He didnt talk to me about it before getting it repaired.

He wanted around 2.5k, 2000 for repairs and 500 for hurt feelings. They threw the hurt feelings out, as you cant put a price on feels.

They initially awarded him the 2k for misrepresentation, as when i sold it i said it was running well. He broke it, therefore it wasn't running well. However i argued that by repairing the outboard without telling me, he failed to mitigate my loss.

In the end he got awarded $1000

    Lesson

Unless you are paying a mechanic to replace your parts and have an invoice to that regard, your repairs are basically ignored. It doesnt matter how much you spent, unless a shop does it, it doesnt mean anything in court

Put 'As is where is' on every listing, never mention speculative things like 'its running well' or it 'starts easy'. These can be held against you without any proof

Take heaps of videos of it running, if appropriate.

Never ever offer the buyer anything when they contact you asking for money. See them in court.

The court mediator knows nothing about your case or the thing you sold. He who puts things most simply wins.

  6. Hi guys

Thought I would ask here, since you lot likely sell a whole bunch of old stuff.

Ive got abit of a problem.

Sold something on trademe (17 year old outboard motor), was running perfectly fine with video to prove it. Guy hits buy now, no contact apart from text after the auction, I ship it to Auckland at my expense ($250) to be a GC

Five weeks later I get an email. The outboard broke down, and he had taken it to a mechanics to get it fixed. They spent $1200 fixing mainly maintenance issues (worn seals ect). He no longer trusts the outboard, and wants his money back, plus the workshop bill, and also wants me to pay for the shipping. Ive spoken to citizens advice, they basically said that it could go either way. On one had I said it was running fine, on the other it breaks down for him. Lawyering up tomorrow, guy recons hes taking me to small claims.

My question is, has anyone had something similar happen? Do I have any rights here (being a private seller rather than business), what would you tell this guy get him to back off?

    Cheers Fellas

  7. Hey Guys

I'm thinking of listing my car on trademe for a $1 reserve. Obviously this comes with a few risks, but for those who have done this, how would you recommend I go about this?

Hi-res, clear pictures of a clean car are obviously a must. As is a decent write up. Do you state any issues with the car, or do you just expect people to come and look/find them themselves?  What happens if someone offers you a price you are happy with, despite the auction running? Is it moral/legal to withdraw it. And I suppose the biggest question is: Am I likely to get what I want for this vehicle?

    Stories and advice needed appreciated.

    Cheers

  8. That post was the day I got the car, just assumed it was a hyper gear model. Turns out it has a smaller turbo and has povo spec injectos- ie is a kitted standard RVR. Serves me right for believing everything i read on the internets.

My budget would be around $1000 and that would have to include the new dump pipe. My goal is to still have a pretty responsive car, but with abit more puff at the top end. Its never going to be reved hard or raced. I will forget about td04's, and look for a TD05 16g. Cheers for your help.

  9. So my daily is running out of puff. I get 10psi by 2200 rpm and run out at 4500 rpm. Currently running a td04-15g which as I understand is a td04 front with a td-05 hotside.

Engine is vr4 spec, 450cc injectors. Big front mount and 2.5" exhaust. Tiny down pipe.

    Options are...

    td04-19t upgrade (biggest td04 spec turbo), TD05 16g or TD05 20g.

Also what is the difference between Evo 1-3, Evo 4-9 and WRX TD05's.

    Any help would be appreciated

  10. The piping was absolutely tiny. And not factory. SOme/most of the joiners were kinked and some had gotten holes in them, so they had just wrapped another one on top. Im glad the whole car isnt 'modified' to such a poor standard. The 2.5" piping gave more response and less lag.
