  1. Cheers Kyteler Even more so when the boats been built by a Barry and nothing is interchangeable, for example notice steering is on the left... After looking into my shift issues and pouring over parts diagrams, it looks like we have a problem. The shift cam must have flipped when i was changing the impellor. Its now facing 'down', and thus has reversed my shift pattern. im going to try and flip it back over using the tiny access granted by removing the shift shaft. Its going to be painful, im going to want to throw something. Otherwise il have to remove the entire bearing carrier/ prop shaft assembly and do it from the back. Good times with boats!
  2. Had issue after issue with getting this in the water. Life got in the way Had an afternoon free yesterday so decided to roll this out of the shed and give it a go Took a while to start but finally fired up with a smooth steady idle. Bundled up wife and three kids, launched the boat, found the first major issue - the gear selection was reversed. Put it in reverse to got forward spec. Motored out of napier harbour, put it in forward and disconnected the shift cable (throttle is limited in reverse), gave it some beans and found the second major issue It wont rev over 3000 rpm, not quite enough to get the boat on the plane. My gut feeling is that its way overpropped. I need to check that the throttles are opening fully, but i might just go and get another prop before i look into it much more. The prop on it looks very grabby, but has no pitch numbers to compare. The gear reversal can be easily fixed i think, instead of putting the cable onto the push lug i need to put it on the pull lug inside the control box. I was looking for an excuse to open up the control box anyway and attach a temp guage and warning LED's to the various sensor output wires in there. The good news is that the outboard is charging, starts and stops first pop, and is smooth and quiet We still motored out to spot x, and had a hour of good fishing, came home with 10 gurnard and some kahawai for smoking. The cats will be happy!
  3. Took old motor off, put new motor on. Wired new motor, went to trim it up, solendoids clicking but no movement from pump motor. Bugger Had to remove one side of mounting bracket to get at this bugger. Cracked it open to find that the commutator and bushes were covered in oxide Sanded them back and hit it with a liberal amount of contact cleaner Put back together and is working ok, a little noisy and a little slow, will replace in future. Leaves me with this- Ready to start on a fine day with no kids.
  4. When i brought the boat, it basically had no outboard well.. The builder didnt think it would plane so sized the transom to take a 15hp motor In order to fit a larger outboard, my and a mate built a alloy pod to hold it. Fitted a Suzuki DT65 that was sold as a write off due to severe corrosion in the bores Put a new headgasket on it and ran it like that for 3 years, until it finally started showing compression issues. Started looking for a new engine, but it had to have a left hand sided control because for some reason my boat is left hook Last week i aquired its new engine.
  5. Hello Sir's This may or may not interest anyone. Last year i spied a boat hull on trademe. I followed it for a while and the price kept dropping. Sold my boat in a hurry and purchased sight unseen. Drove up to Auckland to pick it up only to be met by a small crowd of Nautical Barrys who had built it as a team many years ago and never quite got her going. Many yarns were had over some fine homebrewed beer. Apparently they all wanted to escape their wifes and decided to build a boat so they could take turns escaping their wifes in years to come. Many traditional barry techniques were used in the construction, such as hiring a tail lift truck to turn it over. Specs are 7m Long, 2.4m wide. Constructed from Kauri Frames and Cedar Plank. Weight- 600kg! I tidied her up, put a 65hp outboard on it, a fabric soft top and use it for fishing and drinking beers. Forgive the name, i let my 5yo name it.
  6. That post was the day I got the car, just assumed it was a hyper gear model. Turns out it has a smaller turbo and has povo spec injectos- ie is a kitted standard RVR. Serves me right for believing everything i read on the internets. My budget would be around $1000 and that would have to include the new dump pipe. My goal is to still have a pretty responsive car, but with abit more puff at the top end. Its never going to be reved hard or raced. I will forget about td04's, and look for a TD05 16g. Cheers for your help.
  7. So my daily is running out of puff. I get 10psi by 2200 rpm and run out at 4500 rpm. Currently running a td04-15g which as I understand is a td04 front with a td-05 hotside. Engine is vr4 spec, 450cc injectors. Big front mount and 2.5" exhaust. Tiny down pipe. Options are... td04-19t upgrade (biggest td04 spec turbo), TD05 16g or TD05 20g. Also what is the difference between Evo 1-3, Evo 4-9 and WRX TD05's. Any help would be appreciated
  8. The piping was absolutely tiny. And not factory. SOme/most of the joiners were kinked and some had gotten holes in them, so they had just wrapped another one on top. Im glad the whole car isnt 'modified' to such a poor standard. The 2.5" piping gave more response and less lag.
  9. Thats great to hear. Well I used a selection of black and blue so I should get the maximium HP gain right?
  10. So the kit arrived from redline. $150 bux included so much stuff, clamps joiners and pipe. Removed all the 1.5 - 2inch crush bent piping. Who the f**k puts 1.5 inch crush bends on an intercooler. 2 hours later- had to cut most of the pipes to fit, and had to holesaw a 3" hole through a panel but too easy. Bumper even fit perfectly So its all 2.5 inch now, and i honestly recon I doubled the power. It lights up all four really easy now. Couldnt be more stoked how it worked out. Cheers for everyones help
  11. Cheers for the replies. Rather than going custom, i have ordered a universal kit from redline. $150 gets me 2x 90, 2x45, 2x180 and 2 strait alloy pieces, 8 straight joiners and 16 t clips. Cant really go wrong. The plan is to one-piece as much of it as I can with a local guy doing the TIG and beading. Wish me luck! I will have to put a 3" holesaw through a support panel, but it is only tacked on from factory so shouldn't be an issue. Pics to come
  12. Its for a 4g63 in evo flavour so ej20 stuff will be no help. Cheers will have a read
  13. Basically I want to be schooled on intercooler piping. HP levels are 250 ponies. What size piping is right and what are the consequences of going too small/large How much restriction does joiners, welds and bends cause. Is there a 'right way' to build intercooler piping systems. Cheers
  14. Hey guys. SO im not happy with my intercooler piping at all and want someone to make me up a new setup. Mild Steel/SS/Alloy all fine. I have the joiners. Giz you $500. Car is an RVR
  15. It has yellow top injectors... Its been played with quite abit, but seems solid enough. The bov vents to atmo now with no issues. Its not the sort of car that you would be hard on it through gear changes. I prob wont have any problems. Will chuck some more pics up once its Wofable.
  16. Its got a TD05 16g and evo manifold but smaller injectors and different computer. Goes amazingly well for a people mover, most versitile car ive owned. And its got a pretty low key bov ow beau.
  17. I though you guys might be keen to see my new daily. Just saved it from the steriotypical owners. 1996 Mitsi Hyper gear sports. Full evo3 spec motor. Brought it because the seats at the back fold down to a full size bed. Pretty comfy. So awesome for missions. Plans are to keep it as is. But just ordered a set of AT mud tyres, not sure why but will post pics of result Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  18. Just moved here and my woman went crazy (bitches be crazy ect) so need somewhere to live asap. Looking for something long termish. Posting on here cause one of you HB boes might be looking. 26yo professional guy. Cheers Todd 0274162380
  19. Cheer bud found someone abit closer. On a similar note, what conditions contribute to the crazy hardening of rubber seals in modernish motors? The seals on this motor were so brittle, flexing them cause them to snap like a twig.
  20. Hey guys Girlfriend in Hastings car has a serious oil burning issue, i have isolated the problem, and she has the replacement part. Its a tiny wee gasket that lives under the rocker cover. See here http://www.google.co.nz/imgres?q=13271- ... 0,s:0,i:66 Anyway it needs to be changed. I did a dodgy side of the road repair to this gasket to get us home, so the gasket silicon needs to be pulled off, and the new gasket just shoved on. seriously a 5 minute job that only requires a philips screwdriver. If i knew anyone/anymen in hastings i would ask them but alas... Anyone keen to help a sheila in need? PS why do some guys not know anything about mechanics... seriously this would be the easiest job in the world, yet friends in hastings dont know what a rocker/valve cover is, or what a philips screwdriver is. G Give me strength...
