  1. Yes I thought that about the balance shaft also. I'm not 100% on the alternator one, I will double check (at 3pm). The belts are brand new. It possibly may be the alternator belt as the squeeling occurs more so when vehicle is started at night with the lights running. It is probably me due to being in a rush to get the van going and i made a stuff up with tightening a bolt
  2. Hey guys, Hopefully fuel will reply with another awesomely informative post. I basically want/need to know: Can I adjust the balance belt tension without removing the cambelt? It tends to squeel occasionally (at first I thought it was the p/s or alt belt, but it wasnt). EDIT: After just looking at a pic and remembering something, the belt is cogged isnt it. So how would it be slipping? What else would cause belt squeel?
  3. Sorted "i think". Will post up my diagram later
  4. Ok got her running!! Running mint, timing must be all good As for the Black wire with red stripe from the loom I'm still not sure. I got it running without a ballast, i'm actually lost as to what wires should be running from ballast to wherever so some more help would be good.
  5. Thanks fuel. Originally I wrote down: Ballast- 1 side: Black/white from Loom Black/white from Dizzy 2nd Side: Black with black plug from loom Coil- Negative: Black/ white from Loom Blue from Dizzy Positive: Black from ballast. (which now makes no sense to me....)
  6. Hey guys When I removed the coil from my L300 that has a 4G63 SOHC I did write down which wire goes where but i didnt write something down correctly and it isn't making sense. Can someone help me please:: I have from Dizzy: Blue wire Black/ white stripe From Loom: Black/ red stripe White/ black stripe Black/ white stripe Can someone please tell me which wire goes where, as my diagram is wrong This may be the same as other Mitsi vehicles taht use 4g63 sohcs.
  7. -Timing belt on, followed your advice and seemed to work out well. -New alt and p/s belts on -Radiator in Turned motor over by key, everything sounded good. But didn't start because of lack of coil (Somehow managed to lose the coil when I removed it ) But I got a Bosch GT40RT for a good price, just need to mount, and wire it in with new ballast resistor. Wish me luck all. Moment of truth tonight
  8. I've started this thread aswell as my build thread so that I can discuss the project with other forum users. Build thread: http://www.oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=20730 Been having issues with the old girl. And was hoping I could get some feedback. 1st: of all a sudden the rectifier had burnt out so I was continually blowing head and tailights. 2nd: then the indicator flasher relay decided to die 3rd: after finding it near impossible to find a 6v 8w x2 +3w flasher relay i opted for a 6v 17w x2, therefore I had to up the wattage of the indicator bulbs. All this 6volt stuff can be rather difficult to find. 4th: Wired in the new flasher relay and put the bulbs in but they dont flash!! GRRR. 5th: Decided to pull the fuel & oil tanks and give them a clean out aswell as all the crap that had built up underneath them over 26 years. 6th: Then noticed a wire had broken off on a small box (1 wire 6v thing). So I fixed all that up 7th: Put the tanks back in, went to start here and it wont fire. It was working fine before I put the seat down and sat on it. I'm assuming a connection or wire must have gotten caught somewhere when I put weight on the seat causing the old girl not want to fire. By this time is had gone dark and I was geting p*ssed off. I had her going before I put the seat down. Now something weird i noticed is that it will run without the battery in, whats up with this? What is the purpose of the battery? Lights etc still work without battery in so seems a bit strange to me. Battery could be stuffed and I wouldn't even know... So tonight or over the weekend I will need to pull the tanks back out and check the wiring & connectors to ensure I didn't munt anything when I put weight on the seat. *frustrated*....$400 scooter has turned into a pain in the ass and I just wanted some cheap reliable cool transport for getting around town. Anyhow I will get her sorted.
  9. Hrmm, you may be onto something there. I'll check it out again tonight.
  10. Alright alright, Finally got my ass into gear and shit sorted, But need some help... Having trouble with getting the timing correct. All timing marks matched up in correct locations, then I put the belt on correct order. Release the tensioner from its slack position into the tensioned position so that belt is tensioned and the bottom lot of pulleys turn approx 2 teethe one tension is applied on the belt. Its driving me nuts, I must have tried 15 times by now and it continues to happen. What am I doing wrong??? I'm too hesitant to assume this is correct. I want to get her running and this is the only thing stopping me. Thanks, George
  11. Doesn't matter, found timing belt removal and install guide
  12. Everything is all set up. I pulled the cambelt tensioner spring off and now I can't figure out how its suppose to sit/press against, its rather frustating....
  13. When I started her up last night and flicked the lights on the headlight went very bright then turned off. Could not get it to turn back on so I assume its the bulb?? Also, should the rear light be operating when the headlight is on? or is it just a brake light?
  14. I purchased a Suzuki FA50 off Trademe for $400 yesterday. She needs a little bit of work, runs fairly well but I suspect quite a bit of carbon build up. Needs a new throttle cable which I've ordered from Suzuki today, and once that arrives I can set the idle. I purchased a official workshop manual which will be a great help, I plan on overhauling the moped. If you have any parts please let me know.
  15. Electric rattle-gun FTW Had the bolt off in 2 seconds. Got the new balance belt on, what should the tension of the belt be? What steps now? 1.Tension balance belt 2.Install water pump 3.Install new cambelt 4.Set cambelt tension ??? that correct? I guess I can find all the steps in that guide a few pots back?
  16. For. Fucks. Sake. I wouldnt have changed the balane shaft belt if i knew I had to get the impossible crank bolt loose. For fucks sake.
  17. I had a hard time removing the balance belt, i'm really unsure as to how to install a new one. I could barely get the belt passed the crank pulley
  18. Haven't gotten onto this yet. Been busy with other things. Will tackle it tonight.
  19. I'll print all that out for when I get home (home PC is at repairers for warranty repair). fuel: you are such a good cunt. I always appreciate your fast and informative replies.
  20. Will do as soon as I get home. Going to have to reset all the fucking timing...Anyone got a guide?
  21. Ok. Was wondering what those 4 bolts were for on the front of the pulley.
  22. Unfortuanly no access to rattle gun where the vehicle is (garage at home)
