You're doing exactly the kind of thing I wanna do if I ever get my hands on a 240z. I confirm that I super like this.

slammed like a banana spec or else.
nah this thing rules

Hey hey how you doin!?..
Enough with the pillow talk, lets get down to the dirty.
I've heard that there are some early cressidas at the Foxton wreckers and need someone to check 'em out. I'd like to know what kind of state they're in and whats available for the pickings ie. panels, manual bits, suspension bits, interior, dash stuff etc etc.
There's a box of beers and a glad eye for anyone who's man enough for the challenge. Will you be that someone?!
That's a good lad, I knew I could count on ya

grab all the things and make a sweet frankenbrat

That thing is in heaps better nick that I remembered/imagined. How does the dry ice work? does it clean up the metals and paint so you can see the rust betterer?
-
You've got me all hot and bothered now... and the missus

I will do that. wees on it. then have a hoon.
Then with cressida - I'll also check the water temp sensor and unplug the AFM and see if it does anything.
-
It's got water temp and a pretty fancy air flow meter? I've often thought that the water temp sensor could be bung and could do with a replacing.. Could it also be a bung fuel pump?! argh.. too many things. will play this weekend.
-
So plan this weekend is: wrap the passenger side header in heat wrap, cable tie the fuel lines up and out of the way (the filter is sitting on the cam cover, can't be good for it) and then possibly try make a bit of a heat shield.
Shit, it's still playing up. Either the petrol is still getting too hot when passing through the engine.. or its ECU related or something. Would it be worth looking to clean out the injectors?
-
Shiiiiit yes. this thing wont take much at all to look boss. Hell, it already does
-
Fit a super charger, will fix everything.
Funny you mention that. Cazz sent me valentines chocolates with a card and said "sorry this isn't a supercharger". So I mounted the chocolates to the top of engine and did a skid. that'll show her

The new pump is a Walbro GSS342 in-tank pump that can crank 255lph (litres per hour?). This new pump can fill a bucket up with gas heaps fasterer than the old VL(?) one.
Yeah it only does the stuttering when hot and does it when its idling along, idling while standing still and while accelerating - but only while hot. I took it for another drive yesterday and was being very gentle with the go pedal and only putting around to see if I could prolong the stutter.. surely enough I was able to go a fair bit further before it started acting up.

If it still plays up then at least we'll know it shouldn't be a hot fuel problem. Cross your fingers

Cheers dude! Always trying my hardest to make it as swoon-worthy as poss
I had a geeze at the fuel lines, and they enter into the engine bay right next to one of the exhaust headers which can't help the heat at all. I have some spare heat wrap that I'm thinking of wrapping those headers in first.
Question is - would heat wrap make a huge difference in external temperature? Was also thinking of making up a bit of a heat shield out of tin or similar too.. thoughts?
Could make a gas tank out of an old fridge if it gets super bad maybe.. hmm
-
That's a damn good point ya have there. I would also explain why on some days it wouldn't start stuttering till later in the drive which was probably on colder days.
I'm gona see if I can get my hands on a spare/second hand oil cooler and dodgey it up for a gas cooler with a fan mounted on it behind the grill. if it works, then I'll spend the cash and get a permanent non-fireball setup.

Hey there stranger, haven't seen you in a while
Here's the state of it:
Things I've done:
- I've got it sitting at a height I'm pretty happy with (although looks a little high in the front) and have worked the guards at the back for minimal rubbing and comfy ride on our crappy NZ roads.
- Got a Nardi steering wheel. It's a bit loved but nothing a sand and polish won't fix.
- Have added a flange before the back muffler so I can have a few different exhaust tips made up. Currently have the original muffler etc for WOF spec and a straight pipe with a twin end which looks a bit odd (this is what you woulda seen from Hawke's Boes mk5).
- New high flowing walbro fuel pump in the tank! No crazy loudest fuel pump ever.
- Other bits here and there. Mostly cosmetic
Things that are yet to get done (in the short term):
- Have decided the 75mm flares are too wide. They're messing up the lines of the car. I've got the pair of 55mm flares I used on the front of the car for ages and have test fitted them to the back. They're perfect width! So am going to get a second pair for the front. Will hold onto the 75mm ones incase I get my hands on some 12j/13j wheels.
- Get the "stuttering when warm" problem sorted.
Speaking of the stuttering when warm. This has been happening ever since I've swapped up the fuel pump and I'm getting stuck in working out what the problem is. Car runs awesome for the first half hour into its run (around town 50km, out of town 100km etc,) and it'll then start to hesitate and stutter while cruising and even idling. Accelerating seems to make it come out of its stutter but returns again as soon as it idles again.
I've replaced the sparkplugs, fuel filter, checked the AFM, throttle body, plugs, sensors.. you name it. Still no change. I'm thinking of getting my hands on some 7mgte injectors and seeing if that makes a difference. Or perhaps the standard ECU is struggling with the increase of fuel flow at temperature? Any ideas?
