  1. So it's not exactly for a car, but we need someone with a good camera and reasonable skills to take a photo of someone in a bath filled with bubbles.

It is going to be used on posters to advertise for a concert.

The shoot will take place in Gordonton and will only take about an hour. Fee is negotiable.

Ideally it will take place on a Saturday morning while it is sunny.

Anyone interested or know of anyone?

    Cheers!

  2. See if the windows have an old number plate number etched into them. My one does and check it matches the plates on the car.  Might tell you if the plates on the car are at least the right ones

He said it has new glass so it doesn't match up.

So Tuiman22, how are you certain that the plates match the car (edit: or that the history of the car is legitimate and it is not stolen)? That might answer your question as to how you can prove it to LTNZ... And if you can't know for sure, well that was an expensive lesson unfortunately.

  3. Unfortunately it is well past the negotiation stage, and I'm not starting for a couple weeks. But like I said it's not off the cards, I shall do what I can to attend of course!

At least I don't have a callout roster to contend with in the new chob.

  4. A lot of people missed the point of that ad, but Kirk nailed it. I agree it was poorly executed.

In that case he died largely because of his own fault (though they tried to make out it was because of the other guy driving a bit fast too).

Kind of demonstrates the point though. Driving at 100kph it could be hard to make eye contact and determine whether through guy is going to pull out and if you should therefore take evasive action. If you are driving at shitty old car then you are going to get killed.

  5. TLDR - but there are many ways to skin a cat. It sound like you want a custom relationship between input signal and output? Could be hard to do with analogue electronics. If it was somewhat linear or exponential that you wanted then it could be achieved with transistors or amplifier circuits.

But the way I would do it is with a microprocessor, then it is infinitely customisable and you could set up any relationship you want.

I'll happily make up a circuit for you if you can decide decide what you want, piece of cake.

  6. I realise that there aren't many solutions to this problem apart from "harden up, it's a risk you have to take" or "be more careful while driving". But I wanted to spark some debate. The best driver in the world isn't going to be able to prevent a drunk cunt swerving in to you without notice.

I remember a thread some time about what the safest OS cars are.

Is there a kind of cage you can put in your car which adds structural integrity that you won't smash your head on and isn't a massive obstacle to get in and out of?

  7. Yeah I thats my general thought. You could go the whole cage/harness/helmet route but not very practical (not to mention very ugly) for a daily driver.

The "largest car wins" argument may have some merit, but not vs a truck. And you hear stories about people being speared by steering columns in old yank tanks.

  8. This is something I have been thinking about more and more. Especially since my sister was recently involved in a car accident (completely not at fault) where a truck merged into her, spinning her sideways and plowing her car 20m down the road before he managed to stop. If her car didn't have side intrusion beams she would not have escaped serious injury.

But of course like (I hope) all of you I would love to drive an "oldschool" car, which in general are not safe at all.

My understanding is that a roll cage is only part of a safety system that should include a helmet and harness in order to work effectively, not to mention fire proof overalls, extinguisher (for when you get stuck in the car).

So what are some practical things you can do or install to make sure you can walk away from a crash when someone else screws up and smashes in to you?

  9. Yeah^

I mean you could argue having/using AA plus when you drive shitty cars that are prone to breaking down is borderline unethical, but using it to transport a car that you know is fucked to begin with isn't really kosher and if enough people do it they are likely going to change the rules or hike premiums or something.

I love it as a backup option / stress free motoring in general and hope they continue to offer it.

  10. Works out awesome cause I'm driving Auckland to national park on Friday.

I can likely help out with some smaller stuff if anyone needs stuff to go South that's on the way to national park. Cant guarantee anything though cause I'll be with the old dear and don't want to take up too much time.
