  1. If you have any ideas etc for the project please let me know!! My project thread is: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=15107 Cheers Jacko
  2. Well thought id set this up to help clear my head of the long list of things to do. I own a 1977 Mk2 Ford Escort Sport. I bought this about 3 yrs ago for $1800 with a WOF and Reg!. It has mostly been a daily driver, and is pretty much stock standard. (currently overseas, back in 2 months and will post pics). Things ive done: New Carpet New Door cards (from an RS1800 ex UK) New Dash Re-upholstered the original seats Installed a centre console and glovebox reconditioned the gearbox New starter motor, coil, leads Minor rust work for WOF Project plan: Re-paint car in the original orange colour with pin strips. (DIY job,..... not to confident thou) Build an all steel 1700 crossflow engine. (Have crank, pisitons, head, cam, almost complete ) Nothalane bushes throughout (will buy in UK) Capri coilover struts (need to find) Austin Princess four-pit calipers (Bought not fitted) Bias pedal box (hopefully a DIY job) Capri close ratio gearbox (bought not fitted) Fit original front spoiler (bought) Fit original spot lights (bought) 13x7 superlites on low profiles (need to save some cash) reset the rear leaf springs Get a WOF I am currently in the UK and i am trying to think of all those hard to get parts that I should bring back with me. (may also be able to bring back some small light parts for people. Any ideas on things I may need?? The basic plan when I get back is to get a new garage to store it in so i have enough room to work. From there will completely strip the car down for paint. After its painted install new suspension/brakes setup.. Fit new gearbox. Fit current standard engine. Get a WOF. Then spend the next few months building the 1700 beast on the side. (need to save some more cash, very expensive engine build ) The last touch will be the superlites. I really want the car to look standard but have alot of hidden power. I have had a couple of escorts but never had a big project like this one. Still learning as I go, any suggestions would be great!! Jacko
  3. Well,.... hopwfully i wont need to machine the block. This is the description from the guy I bought it from: STEEL CRANKSHAFT TO SUIT 1600 CROSSFLOW AND LOTUS COSWORTH AND BDA ENGINES ETC.MADE FROM DATSUN L18 FORGED STEEL CRANKSHAFT ALL MACHINED FOR STD JOURNAL SIZES AND HAS NOT BEEN USED SINCE MODIFYING.STEEL FLYWHEEL IS AVAILABLE TO SUIT AT ADDITIONAL COST. So I pressume it would just slot on in??
  4. Hey, got crank and pistons from Aussie, from a machining firm. All done and ready to install,..... cant wait to get this beast made!!!
  5. I would but I already have the Datto crank and pistons ready to be fitted. Just need a block. But really want a built-proof engine which is why im considering getting this XA Block from South Africa.
  6. I have talked to darth Vader from turbosport, he is willing to find a couple in South Africa for me. Cost is around $900 incl shipping. Would anyone else be interested in one of these?? (helps bring the shipping costs down)
  7. Im travelling around the UK at the moment so hopefully I can find one over here and arrange cheap shipping but i have spent about an hour on he net and not found anything
  8. Thanks for the info! I have found out it is called the AX Block. Does anyone know where i can get one of these from??
  9. Hey Guys, I am currently building a 1760 Ford Escort with steel Datsun crank and flat top pistions. However I know that this is pretty much pushing the limits of the block. Im sure i read somewhere that there was an escort block that was released in another country that had thicker walls?? I was looking at this one for sale on trade me (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 786366.htm), could this be what im lloking for?? If I cant find one I will not bore it out so much (but that would suck because i have all the parts for a very powerful engine.. If anyone knows the type of block with thick walls or if one even exists any info would be great! Cheers
