    tacho signal

nice and constructive mate re the 'crap' oldschool cars: i own one as a daily driver so im unlikely to call them crap am i? bit quick on the judging aren't we? re the bucket comment: it's mounted in front of the standard tacho (out of sight) as it's a track only car so it doesnt have to comply with WOF's, and im personally against 5" tacho's in cars that have functioning tacho's to begin with, especially mounted in places that restrict vision and just show them off. re the limiter: i have been using that, but i'm not into wearing out my engines prematurely re the coil: the turbo SR's run an ignitor pack, sending firing signals to four individual coil packs mounted on top of the plugs if that helps. im not an auto electrician nor pretend to be one so sorry if im missing something completely obvious here. but thank you for your constructive comments thus far Mike-e

    tacho signal

i've done everything possible, even taken it to an auto electrician, to get a tacho signal out of the ECU and no go. have hunted through wiring diagrams off the net to the point of madness to find the right wire (the one you talk about is the correct wire and yes it does not put out a signal - the sparky confirmed this for me). engine runs fine, has been for around 3yrs, but no tacho signal coming out of ECU. the timing loop wire at the back of the engine was one possibility i tried, but as stated it did not put out an accurate reading - i revved the engine to what i thought was 4-5,000rpm, but it only got to around the 1000rpm mark. hence why i am asking what oldschoolers use when they wire in a tacho into a car with no tacho, not how do i get a signal out of the ECU.

    tacho signal

figured i would get a better answer out of you guys than anywhere else! engine is a FL S14 SR20DET my problem is my ECU isnt putting out a tacho signal. none of the nissan forums have been any help as no one has had to deal with this before, as it has only happened to one other person i know and he is still stuck too! there is a timing loop on the back of the engine, but that only gives me 1/4 of the signal (at 1000rpm it only reads 250rpm) im using one of those 3 3/4" Autometer gauges because the car the engine is in had an RB engine and the rev counter didnt work with the SR20DET. can you get a signal off the alternator or CAS? cheers guys - this forum rocks!
