  1. Around $5000? Is that right, because thats just crazily cheap. I wish I had money/courage to try and import something. I assume the end price will be significantly higher than that?

The reserve prices on most auctions vary wildly, e.g. that GC10 replica will probably be somewhere in the vicinity of 1.5 million JPY reserve with the Laurel maybe only 1.2 million JPY at the most. All I can say is budget an extra NZ$5000 on top of the purchase price for shipping, agency fees, customs tariffs/GST and compliance/repairs. Never as cheap as it seems.

Just heard today some Russians scooped up the two Series 3 RX7 12ATs that my agent was inspecting on my behalf :(

Problem with the Russian bidders is they have too much money, but no aftersales support whatsoever. So when those RX7s inevitably end up somewhere in the backwaters of the Ukraine with broken engines and no parts to fix them, they're going to be pretty much worthless.

  2. A mate of mine is trying to sell two KE30s (see for sale section) plus heaps of spare parts and hasn't had much luck so far, too many timewasters etc. Kinda doesn't help that one has panel damage and the other is a rolling shell :(

i find that with a lot of oldschool cars there is a false economy, people say they're worth $xxx but when the time comes the actual sale price ends up being much lower...

  3. Those transverse Mazda V6 donks are quite underrated, especially the 2.5 litre KL-ZE which has 200hp, pity they stuck them in such bland looking cars. The 2.3 supercharged one (KJ-ZEM) is a torque monster.

any of those V6s can be shoehorned into a Laser chassis like mine, but I don't think I have the patience to try it

maybe one day I will, if I manage to grow a couple of money trees first

  4. The Japanese yen is at an all-time high right now, it's hovering around JPY100 to 1NZD. Gonna take advantage of this and import myself another classic car while the rate is nice and healthy.

So the 22,000 buynow price = $229?! That can't be right... I thought the dollar was around 76JPY or something? Anywho, mean alloys, just what I want.

    Speed Star Racing = 8)

Rinkya have hellishly large commission charges on car parts and rims, just so you know. And all conversions are done from JPY -> USD (using the current Rinkya website rate) then -> NZD.

a complete set of rims can be had for as little as JPY500 reserve if you spend the time searching. The set of SSR mesh rims I bought for my coupe (similar to the ones you posted, but 4 stud) cost me JPY10000 buynow.

A friend and I are currently working on setting up a way to get items shipped from Japan easily, so watch this space. Been kicking the idea around for awhile now.

boe, i don't think its a matching set.. two of the rims have slightly diff pattern.

Mine were the same deal, different lips front and rear, owing to the different rim widths. most oldschool RWD offset rims are sold as staggered sets.

  5. bugger that relay decided to pop on Sunday eh :( (or whatever caused the entire ignition system to shit itself)

As far as the delta goes, I wouldn't mind putting a T28 or GT25 on it and turning up the boost, maybe stick a 130TC inlet cam in. BUT it's the daily for the moment so I'm kinda loathe to spend more than just maintenance on it. It needs some rust work done first anyways (you have to love italian cars)

you know you want to buy that 8V 'grale in Aucks and do the dodgy...

Not underestimating the amount of rust either, I had a look and it's nothing compared to some Italian cars I've seen!

  6. Yer man, had a chat to my mate the other day. There are restrictions on certain parts - things like bodykits, bumpers and any single item bigger than 20kg or 2mx2mx2m can't be shipped to NZ, but flick me a PM of what you need (and links to auctions if you have them) and I'll see what I can do.

as I explained there may be additional charges once the items get here, nothing much we can do about Customs unfortunately.

Should really sit down and work out a decent depositing system that won't make people feel like they're being stung or forced to pay extra/hidden costs

  7. oh hey boes, finally an update on the wedges... Got a chance to finish work a tad early today - I've been itching to give the SSRs a good inspection and clean, so dropped by the local Repco on the way home to pick up some wheel cleaning stz. arrived home with just over an hour of daylight to spare, got straight into it.

Final step is to drop them off at Arrow tomorrow, get all the gari scars and random bends repaired/tidied up, then throw on a set of 205/60s and it'll be time to bolt them onto the coupe and fit my new mackdaddy springs. Pwn :D

also it was a good opportunity to test out the camera I bought for taking photos of random stuff and documenting projects etc. Way less hassle to lug it around and take photos on the fly, compared to my high-end digital SLR.

    filth! :(

  8. nah every package gets sent from the same address/depot in Japan, easier consolidation of resources etc especially since his purchases arrive from all over the country. They must just keep an eye on whatever comes through addressed to him - in this shipment he had a whole shitload of Cusco Evo parts, swaybars, hubs, bearings, and another set of rims beside my own.

Customs were pwned though, he went down there today with a manifest listing the actual item values etc (in the case of my SSRs, the auction printout) and they basically released everything to him with few/no charges. Turns out they CAN'T charge a tariff on the shipped+purchase price combined, only the latter, and since the purchase prices on most of the items were piddly small, they didn't bother  (legit too, not faked)

so my rims are now safely here :D Need a scrub up, the centres are a bit corroded, and one lip has a small gari scar, but overall they're totally awes.

Fucking forgot they only came with two centre caps though so I need to go on the prowl for another two.

  9. needs way too much work to be even viable for registration :( Tau's cars can be rough as guts too, you'd need a honest agent to inspect them on behalf.

With that said though, good condition GC111s are going for a mint these days.

this one has a 780,000yen start price. Should fetch around 1-1.5mil at auction:

  10. yer, pretty much  now the kids won't get their black market ritalin

Nah, Customs finally wised up to the fact my mate is shipping a lot of stuff direct from Japan on behalf, so they decided he had to start paying tariffs for the privilege

sux = he won't be able to start up his middleman service now, so no cheap Watanabes for oldschoolers :(

  11. RBF600 = win

Just a thought, I've been recommended to use Mintex 1144s over the 1166s as my car sees a lot of daily and weekend street use. The 1144s are a lot less destructive to the rotors, more forgiving for normal everyday braking etc.

Might be worth considering if you use the car as your primary mode of transport and only go to trackdays twice or three times a year.

the track hack TX3 that I'm building will def have 1166s equipped tho.

  12. Might need to get them to recalibrate the sedan's speedo, it reads 20km/h faster than the actual speed and I don't think it's anything to do with my tyres.

ended up ripping the little 105km/h dinger out of the centre console in the end, it was just too painful to bear >_<

  13. there was hardly a thing wrong when u brought them yeh?

Pretty much dude. 'Cept for the fickle shit like the ride heights/spring rates, and the minor repairs needed to the interiors I can't really find any other faults with them. Bodies are virtually rust free, good paint etc, electrics all work and the engines/drivetrains are in good condition. Also helps that I have a good agent in Japanland that knows what to look for when scoping out potential buys.

Just need to find the time to fix up all the small niggly things then I promise I'll stop whinging

Only 'major' fault so far has been the CAS on the sedan, but from talking to various hamburger enthusiasts on other forums it's a common fault on just about every EGI nissan from the mid 70s onwards

  14. Yah RB are good, even though they took like 20 years to work out the right brake package for my TX3 and I ended up going thru another supplier in the end.

Fully going there to get my Mintex M1144s sussed once I've caned the fuck out of my existing Lucas pads. and yeah, they cut them to size from a massive sheet, seems to be the norm for most of their packages.

one thing Davy - how you gonna do the zorst tomorrow if you're leaving for Taupo this afternoon?
