Fuuuuuuu I just got a years rego on my truck
Bugger.
Mind you, I don't get to take advantage of any savings until September for the AW11 and October for the TX3
-
Just received word that the ACC levies are going down again as of 1st July 2016, which means registration costs on vehicles will be cheaper. As a bit of a lark I entered the Rx-7's plates into rightcar.govt.nz to see what sort of savings I would receive.
http://rightcar.govt.nz/rego - July 2015: $238.45/year
http://rightcar.govt...go/acc-new.html - July 2016: $153.94/year
$84.51 difference.
Not sure if this affects vintage cars on classic rego (>40 years old) but try it and see

Would be keen as for a cruise from out west, whats the details??
Last month a bunch of people met at Z Lincoln Rd at 7pm then cruised out to Ellerslie in convoy.
Haven't heard from Alistair, I presume he is away so nothing's been organized for this month.
Will probably just head to Ellerslie on my own tonight, via Llama's if he still requires a lift.
-
Consider it done... let me know the address!
Mayte I would be keen to drive all the way to henderson just for an Ed spec Rotary ride tbh.
MAYTE. Come for a ride to Caffeine and Classics in it at the end of the month.
Shh just come.

No problem, can supply a ride if it's just you? Taking a 2-seater you see.

Who wants to give me a ride from out west?
What part of west, kind sir?
Also speaking of west - Alistair/Fels/Chrison8/Kylezzuro/Romandave and others, are you folks keen for another pre-meet at Z Lincoln Rd?
-
Bro, I hope you now possess that retro Gemtime Jewellers keyring.

I paid about $750 for the repair inspection on the MR2, think the cost varies from certifier to certifier though.
And the guy had to come and look at it twice.

Cheers Peet!
It sure sounds like modern/exotic cars fly through compliance. Mind you I've only brought in rusty Japanese shitters so far, therefore my results are somewhat skewed.
Actually looking at a modern thing to import next so we'll have to see...
-
Time for a fezz Ed?
Haha, I wish!
No, I'm just sick of dealing with compliance directly and having no recourse for anything that might go wrong (it's happened every single time I've imported a car into NZ by myself) - mildly keen to offload my next planned purchase to a RMVT, dealer/agent, or someone that has CGA or warranty liablilty.
-
Just a serious general query Pete, are you dealing directly with compliance yourself, or is it all included in the overall cost of bidding/purchasing/shipping?
If so which company(s) did you go through in the end? PM me if you'd rather not divulge publically.
-
Nope, but I drove around Auckland in it yesterday. Went from home, to town, to Onehunga, to Glen Innes, to Mission Bay, back into town again, then out to Henderson and finally back home.
I have a good mind to take it to this month's Burgerboes as well as Caffeine and Classics (as I need to pick up my expensive new rear spoiler)

Guess the next weak point will be the OEM HT leads themselves... they have a manufacture date of 1990 on them so have obviously been replaced at least once before, but are still 25 years old, hah.
So I ordered some new OEM HT leads ex Japan, imagine my surprise when they finally turned up and this was printed on them:
Mazda must have changed suppliers in the last ~25 years, hah.
Mildly annoyed they are blue instead of factory orange (to match the turbo hat and radiator fan) but I guess beggars can't really be choosers.
One odd paradigm I noticed when swapping over was that the trailing leads have switched back from stud-type to solid tip terminals (thereby rendering this previous post completely academic). I'd had the foresight to order some more BR9EQ-14 plugs from Rockauto while they were US$1.18 each on clearance, so installed a pair of these with the solid tips now attached.
You can see the two new bright red coils at bottom left, hah.
Now the car pulls to redline better and runs smoother than ever (probably the best it's ever been), and even started with no issues since it was last driven in January, so I'm somewhat happy.

Oh I just remembered I should probably dust off and fit my brand new OEM ignition leads before I start the Rx-7 tomorrow.
Interestingly, they are NGK branded. I sure do like obtaining new stuff for shitty old cars.
-
Those ridiculously wide doors on the Fez are to mask some sort of cooling system gubbins from what I've read.
You should go pick up that sheila from The Bachelor NZ in it. She's on the rebound and would probably swoon.

I'm going to start my Rx-7 up this weekend and hope it doesn't cark itself from not being driven since January.
Might even take it to Hamilton.

Are they banned or do the compliance jokers just like to use them for Guy Fawkes?
Yes, and also yes.

Cletus complies cars now?
Give me the flare Peet, otherwise it will go walkabouts (i.e. the rubbish bin) before the car is signed off.
-
That would be me, and thanks for checking. Hopefully they decide to part it out.
Though it'll all be fairly academic if it's got brown/tan/red interior.
Ewan gave me access to his vehicle auctions database... this is very dangerous as I can now see how cheap FDs are currently selling for.

Lush. I hope his apex seals didn't fall out on the drive home afterwards.
Kind of amusing watching his AFRs dip into the 10s at WOT. Definitely not a car that will do very well in Roman's fuel economy thread.

Oh yeah, prior to the FD comparison that made sense, then out of nowhere, BLAM!
Still, i see what you're saying but really, out of the box is the AW that great or do you need to fettle it down and add more boost to the supercharger? I don't imagine an NA AW is too amazing either, TBH. I don't know what options the NA MX came with but if they offered a forced induction example and the additional suspension jiggery pokery that would likely inspire, I'm sure it would be a better car.
Brent, you has MX5, yeah? What's your thoughts?
N/A AW11s are a slightly better driver's car than a MX-5, but a lot of that has to do with the MR layout.
I actually don't feel like I need to boost up my AW11 SC any further... Toyota got it right in terms of its torque and acceleration characteristics. More power just leads to a twitchier back end and less grip
The furthest I intend to go is to fit a set of free-flowing extractors, and only because they came included in a bulk lot of parts I scored off Yahoo Japan. You can upgrade to an AE101 SC12 which gives you a bit more boost over factory due to its undersize pulley, but realistically by that point you're better off going turbo.
Sorry to go off topic, bearing in mind this is the rotary piners thread after all!
Would love to see a ND MX-5 hardtop with a 13B turbo. It's the only iteration of the car that doesn't look like a clown shoe.
Rotary piner thread.
