+1 for not using single-wire brush attachments.
Thought I had an ingrown hair today, but on closer inspection...
that's my hairy thigh by the way. rraow...

Ok, well decided I might as well sell these and get some to suit later.
Anyway I sold them on trademe to a guy who wanted them for a gemini.
He comes over to collect them and wasn't happy that there was no top bush, washer or nuts. Fair enough I guess, although the photo in the auction showed them as is.
So he demanded $5 off the price - I said sweet as, then when I came back with his change he says that they are way too soft and that they're leaking because they're making a sound.
If gas shocks make a squishing sound when you compress them, does that mean they leak? Are they stuffed? They feel pretty stiff to me - not really stiff, I can pull them back out by hand.
Anyway just want to get my facts straight before I relist them.

right.. so would the electrical part control how much it opens or closes at certain revs? Where would I connect this?
-
Gives me motorvantion for mine
The windscreen washer bottle thing is great!
I would probably have never thought of it and just cried instead.
yeah I was almost at that point, but my dad's tips saved the day. - was a real "use the force, luke" moment.
-
sure thing - umm not sure what year... square headlight third gen one - somewhere between '82 and '90.. Had a 2L engine.
I'll leave it in the back of the van. (can't be fucked moving it anyway)

Bought this today:
it's off an 18RG, and I'd like to know how it works, how to test it, and how to install it properly.
It has an electrical connector - what does this do? Do I need to connect it?
The 12R that's in my hiace has two vent outlets, one from the top cover that goes back into the intake, and one from further down the crankcase that I believe is supposed to have a valve, but at the moment is just a tube that points down at the road. Once the valve is installed, I still wont have anywhere to pipe the gases back into the engine. Is it ok to just leave it open to air? I guess a catch can would be ideal?

Look what's in the back of the van! It's part of another van!
Thought I'd look into a disc conversion for the front - and by look into I mean buy front-end from later model hiace and hope that things will work out.
progress will probably be slow, gotta get the subaru back on the road so I can sell it and get some cash moneyz for this and the suzuki.
Plus I only recently spent like $80 on front brake shoes so I want to get some use from them first

yup yup I'll be there

managed to crack my thermostat housing, but a guy at my brothers work welded it up and now it's all good!
and shiny!

Right, had some spare time today so I thought I'd get this new head gasket into the subaru.
Relatively straightforward to do on such a tiny engine - heaps of space in the engine bay which makes it nice to work on.
Most of the headbolts looked like this:
would that be normal or a sign that there's been water getting in where it shouldnt be?
Old vs. new gasket. shape is a little different in places but should be ok I think..

keen - I'll be there in my pedo-van

should be straight forward man, go see Ian and Autolign in carbine rd, Mt Welly. wont be dear. He gave me bushes for free when i had some shocks shortened.
otherwise ADL but they can take ages
went and saw ian today and unfortunately it's not so straightforward - problem is that the isuzu eye is a parallel wall type, ie the bush edges are straight and slide right in, while the hiace ones are tapered. So the only options were to cut off the eyes and re-weld them on to the other shocks - or buy some sort of adapter bush which were around $100 each.
Oh well. I'll chuck these shocks on trademe I think.
Anyone need a good pair of Isuzu Ute front shocks? Should fit Holden Rodeo as well.
-
Ok, so that's chrome ones - what about black ones? easy to find?
-
YAY! fresh off the plane from Supercheap Auto, Mackay, QLD.
looks pretty funny in the regular head gasket sized pack..
Actually looks a lot like one half of a 4cyl subaru boxer. hmm..
-
Sweet, scored all the bits I need! Cheers shavenYak!
oh sweet, good stuff - I was worried there wouldn't be much left cause it looked pretty pillaged when I was there.
-
hey there's a 18r hiace camper at mangare pickapart with a side door you could use for your gullwing project
-
^ yeah that's right - sorry should have posted examples.
-
I was thinking of getting some replacement shocks for the front of the hiace from work - they're off an isuzu ute, and theyre the right dimensions lengthwise. The lower end mounts differently though, the isuzu shocks have a normal eye bush, and the hiace has a bush with a bar through with a bolt hole on each end.
I assume the bushes can just be pressed out and replaced - Do you buy bushes with the bar already moulded into it? And where would be best to go to / how much should I expect to pay?

tested the 12 slots I got from solidstripe:
They are 14x8 at 0 offset.
the door still opens! yuss! (as long as I don't put balloons on it)
hmm.. will need bigger mudflaps
here are the orignal rims:

Took the van out to Raglan this weekend, was meaning to stay until today, but ended up driving home last night due to the MISERABLE FUCKING WEATHER and the fact that the boot leaked a bit, soaking the mattresses.
On the way down from Auckland the electric fuel pump decided to stop working - i took it apart and had a fiddle, then put it back together and it went again. More on that later!
Anyway here are some photos from saturday while the weather was still nice. We painted the van just before we left with left over house paint - so no more yellow patches.
And sunday, it started raining but was still a pretty sweet place to hang out
by sunday afternoon the weather really packed it in so we decided to head back home.
We got about 20ks out of Raglan when the fuel pump stopped again. I took it apart again, to find that a little spring had come loose - I sussed out how it was supposed to go, but as trying to fiddle it back into place - it popped out and flew down through the engine bay on to the wet gravel below.
I knew I was never going to find it and I hadn't thought to bring one of the spare pumps with me, so I resorted to plan B:
That's the windshield washer bottle with the fuel line attached to it.
I hadn't thought to fill the jerry can so I had to drain the petrol tank (luckily it has a drain plug) into the jerry can and some water bottles, then fill the washer resevoir every 10km or so.
So that's how I drove the rest of the 120km back to auckland. Was incredibly sketchy - especially a couple times when the bottle came loose and was pissing petrol all over the hot exhaust manifold.
Anyway, relieved to get home. Fuel system will be next on the list to fix.

also after opeing tin make sure you put a film of gladwrap between the tin and lid when you close it - will stop it forming a skin and going off.
Good call although I did this and it still went off after a while (was quite a while to be fair) next can I bought I transferred over into a jam jar. Seems to seal way better.
-
only time I've had it done was a GA honda city head I took to Taylor Automotive. Fairly sure I paid $60 off the top of my head.
-
got there a bit late but there was still heaps of cars - seemed like a good turnout. Was a very hot day to be standing around in a carpark though..
here's some photos, heaps of cars had left by the time I pulled out the camera.

stink I have to work till 1pm today.. but I'll roll over after that in my manky hiace.

started working on the subaru today but got bored pretty quickly and started exploring under the hiace paint.
seems the whole lower drivers side has had a lot of damage, there is (was) a pretty thick layer of bog:
and I also found a couple of nice body panel joins, which explains why there was something that didn't look quite right before.
that is all.
