  1. Yes, much love for this thang, wish I had a two door, so chur. May I ask what model starlet the the springs are from? Are they kings? annnnnnnnd how much lower is it with them in there? Churs.

Theyre rear King Springs KTRL-55-SP, from EP80/1/2, EP90/1. Fit perfectly into the spring perches. I had a set of Integra/Civic rears too, but they were just a bit too wide.

And as for how much lower.. umm I really should have measured a before/after, but I didn't.

But I made a little photoshop overlay using an old photo with the same size rims, and from that I reckon the drop is about 4cm. So with 2" blocks in the back, and maybe one coil cut off the fronts it should be about right.

  2. your little suzi looks super sweet, esp on rims and lowered and i can also verify that the garage is jealous inducing esp to me struggling in my pokey little cave with 3 other cars out on the driveway

btw, shavens better half was able to carry a short block for this beastie half way down the driveway by herself to that sweet garage in a wet/oily cardboard box holding the box by the top - max power! 3 pots ftw!

yeah man I'm quite stoked with my pad at the moment. Thanks heaps for bringing my crap down, I trust those beers went down alright?

  3. Fuck!

Choice - proud of euwe man..

Get that back nice and low then chop the front to match.. :D

I would love to see this on some black steel wheels with a little dish - what stud pattern?

awwww shucks fanks mang, yeah pretty proud of myself as well for getting off my arse and doing something with the car. No excuse now, got a nice shed and no job. Conditions are perfect.

Agreed on the black steels. Stud pattern is 4x114.3. Here's one I prepared earlier:

  4. Time to update the thread I think - It's been quite a while, but I haven't really done much to the car except drive it every day.

One major thing to happen was leaving Auckland and moving to Palmerston North. This means we now live in a pretty sweet house that has an even sweeter garage. So for the first time I can park both my cars indoors, and have space to work / store my crap. Installed some sweet fluoros so I can work at night. Makes a nice chance from the tiny shed and carport combo I've had for the last few years.

    But anyway, the car!

I had to stop using the alloys, since the Suzuki has 10mm wheel studs, which meant that the factory wheel nuts were too small for the rims and would gouge into the alloy, and it's hard to find aftermarket nuts to suit a 10mm stud.

    IMG_7261Small.jpg

So since it was time to do the wheel bearings anyway I decided to swap the wheel studs out for bigger, standard 12mm ones. I didn't take any photos of the procedure but basically just knocked out the old studs, re-drilled the holes and whacked in the new ones (second hand honda ones).

Used a bottle jack and some chains to press the wheel bearings back in. Worked like a charm!

Tried a couple of spring replacements for the front struts:

First some Honda Jazz rear springs.

    BZZZT!

    Then the starlet rear springs:

    Great success!

    Old struts:

    Shiny struts:

Also modified the brake hose bracket since they're such a fucking annoying design that means you have to undo the brake pipe from the hose if you want to remove the strut.

There's probably a coil or two that I can chop off and they'd still be captive, but first I'll work on dropping the rear end down as well. Got some blocks, just need to buy some u-bolts.

  5. Was all like yay first Palmy meet for me, but Thursday is our move-in day so would probably not have time, but yeah keen for whenever after that. Found a place in Ashhurst to live. Nice place - is that where you are Simon?

Currently camping in the Hiace at the Asshurst domain. Like a baws.

You didn't happen to be at Raumai reserve on the Pohangina river over the weekend did you? Me and simon headed out there at 11pm to check on my lil' bro at some camping party... Saw a couple of Hiaces there - one had a pop top and the other didn't. The kids thought "those vans are dodgey" and simon just said "Nah it's all good, they're in Toyota's".

I was in Pohangina over the weekend, but not in the hiace. Just driving through in a Pulsar.

  6. Talk about cutting ones lunch :D

I'm ken as a ben TBH, mate of mine is coming down here from aucks next weekend, may see if he can collect, where abouts is it/are you in aucks?

I'm in Hillsborough, which is kinda near Onehunga.

  7. Yes, right you are. But Ryanfels cant make Tuesdays, so every now and again i throw in a Wednesday.

Shaven Yak cant make Wednesdays hence why i dont change em for good.

No that note: When do you move Oskar?

oh nah Wednesdays are sweet for me now - had our last band practice on monday. Thursdays ok too - whatever really.

I will be departing Auckland tuesday morning, so this will be the last Auckland meet I attend for a long time!

  8. Old vs. new gasket. shape is a little different in places but should be ok I think..

^^ Famous last words it seems.

So, yeah turns out that head gasket was NOT the right one for this particular engine. The result was that the main oil galleries at the back of the head were not sealed, and oil ran right out of the engine.

Unfortunately I didn't notice this and took it for a quick drive up the road.

I then ordered the correct head gasket from England (of all places) and installed it. No more oil leak, but it seems the short drive with no oil pressure has had a disasterous effect on the bottom end.

The engine now has a REALLY bad knock from what I assume would be the crank bearings.. So my plan of fixing it up and selling it off has now well and truly faceplanted and now with one week left in Auckland, and no intention of taking it with me to Palmy, I need to make a tough decision of what to do with it.

I imagine I wouldn't get much in scrap for it, and I also don't really want to see it crushed - since that was the whole reason I bought it in the first place.

SO. Does anyone have a place in their shed, and their hearts for this little girl? I'm open to offers, rego is on hold and apart from the bottom end, it's otherwise pretty good. (and has a new clutch and h/g)

I would definitely keep it and see it through if we weren't moving.. breaks my heart. :(

Also, FYI - Subaru Ace engines drop right in and are not especially rare.

  9. Mr Yak, thanks for the info, but what are my chances of finding one of these axles along with the shock mounts/spring clamps? I would also have to find out if the stub/brake flanges are the same. But if it was basiclly a direct bolt in, it probably is the best option.

I know there's one on a car in Orini, just outside of Ngaruawahia.. I can't really get there myself to get it, but I could get contact details for you?

As far as I know the flanges are the same bolt pattern.

  10. OR.... get a rear axle from an SS80 like mine, should go in without too much hassle. Might still have to make some new brake lines, or possibly not if you re-use your existing hub/drum units.

    16-8Large.jpg

unfortunately i recently scrapped my spare one in a fit of shed cleaning frenzy.. :(
