  1. Yea thats the idea i had goin, get it all ready so when i come round to it all the technical fuel pump stuff is done.

This may be a stupid/obvious question but its early on a sunday and im at work, i wouldnt have to have the low pressure pump in tank would i? feeding an external from the tanks outlet would still work?

  2. Hey all,

interested in setting up a electric fuel pump setup in the mk3 tina and just trying to get my head around it all (especially with the feed out the side of the tank, use of surge tanks, lift pumps etc) been sifting through google and the forums with no real luck.

does anyone have any helpful links or pics/details of there own setups?

    cheers

    Hey all,

After my last 2 RB projects i still missed my old mk2 ford escort project so much that ive decided to get back into the old school scene with this.

A Mk3 Ford Cortina! Always wanted one and after selling my last project which was a C35 laurel this came up on the forums.

Put new front springs in the front the next weekend i got it and it also needed valve stem seals replaced so got stuck into that pretty much as soon as i got it back to dorkland only to find that not only were the valve stem seals buggered but the head needed a bit of work around the valves. Number 4s valves had recessed about 5thou and the seal that goes between the valve and head had been chewed up and spat out at some point in its life.

Got it all fixed by The Cylinder Head Shop (awesome guy runs that outfit, super helpful with these things) chucked it on and ran mint.

Also had some escort rostyle rims widened, 7" fronts and 8"rear, pic has a standard 5" rim infront for comparison.

Decided to paint them for now until i figure out if i want to try polish the lip myself or pay someone to do it for me

Took it down to taupo for a track day that was intended for the laurel but since id already paid for the day i figured id take the cortina on for a giggle.

Only to find it had used pretty much a whole sump of oil and ruined a few of the brand new plugs i had in it. Tried a few suggestions through the forum to diagnose and also rang the cylinder head shop for a bit of advice. Turns out bottom end needs a rebuild (was planing on doin it at some stage but the cortina wanted it now)

So i went out and bought these

.5 oversize pistons new rings and bearings, place wanted them gone so got a good deal.

Thats where its at now, future plans are get the bottom end sorted then start tidying up the body and interior etc

  4. Every pinto I've had that suddenly starts throwing oil out like this needed a rebuild... and that it more than one lol.

However, it could easily be the gasket if you've just rebuilt it.

    Motor rebuild or head?

Could it be the head gasket if its just been replaced?

  5. Did the test cold and without throttle open also.

I just had the valve stem seals replaced and some machining around the valves so they are seated properly so I'm hoping its not the head.

It had ap5fs plugs in it before the head work then I put 7s in and now the most recent are 5s again.

Checked the oil also and it's lost a lot on the way back from taupo, I think some of that is part of an oil leak but the leak is definitely not that bad.

    Cheers

  6. Cheers for the feedback. Did a comp test and it goes like this cyl1 140, cyl2 145, cyl3 140, cyl4 135. I put a bit of oil in cyl4 and it raised it to 145.

Was all done when engine was cold if this changes anything.

Was told by a m8 driving behind me that it only blew oil smoke as soon as I backed off after booting it.

Cyl 4s spark plug (which I replaced yesterday) had all this black build up all over when I took it out to.

    Ideas?

  7. Just took my car down to taupo from dorkland for the weekend, mk3 cortina 2lt pinto. Had a full sump before I left then when I got to the track the oil light was flashing around corners, check the dipstick and its all gone.

Oil was around the spark plugs and around the thread and you could see that oil had been spitting out through the filler cap. I know it's not the head or the gasket because I just had the head recod, stem seals and every other seal replaced and new headgasket.

Also checked the plugs the next day because it started running on 3 and all where fine exept cyl4 was black and seemed to have all this build up on it (fresh spark plugs 2 btw)

Anyone have any theories or should I be getting ready to pull it apart?

    Cheers.
