  1. Thats quite interesting. My car is the exact opposite, will run fine on 91, but when upping the timing by a few degrees and running on 95 I dont notice any extra power, but it is alot smoother and quieter. Also used to have a bit of over runnig problems and cnahnged my plugs to what fuel recommended, adjust idle speed and havent had a problem since. 98 seemed to be just a waste of money though

  2. I need some new parts to repair my car. I know a guy in Hamilton who can get all the parts I need, but the problem is, I need to make an offer and I have absolutely no idea what they'd be worth!

I havent looked at them yet, so just enquiring about a rough opinion.. So the parts I'm looking at are:

Complete nose cut (cut just before shock towers)

    Left Front Headlight/Corner lights

    Bonnet

    Bumper

    Left Front guard

Or if anyone else can hook me up that'd be sweet :D

  3. Well it's been sorted. The insurance was still under my mothers name because at the time I got my car it was gonna be ALOT cheaper to have it that way and I never bothered to change it over, so she sorted it out for me while I was at work.

The OTHER insurance company only paid for my excess and I got my full payout minus $200 to buy my car back.

Do you think I'll still be able to try get a bit of money out of the other woman through small claims or something for repairs or not because Ive taken my payout?

  4. I knew all along I wouldnt get any more than $1000 for it. I just want to, at least, keep the car so if I decide its worth fixing, then I can, and If not, then get rid of it. I don't like the idea of the insurance company taking the car away and crushing just cause its been in an accident. Its my car, not theirs and the payout is hardly worth the effort. I could still probably cancel the claim, but I'll have to wait and see what they decide to do first as I havent heard from them since assessor looked at it.

  5. but it's the fact it's been in his family for so long.. almost makes it priceless. What can $600-700 buy to replace it? sweet fuck all. It's the more desirable EX too being a factory 1600 and manual, and it was very tidy at that. I honestly think it is easily worth $1500-2000. If a KE70 sedan can fetch silly money, why can't an EX?

Scrubb there's a turbo 1800GSR EX Lancer on trademe at the moment, a friend of mine in Hamilton has it. He has at least three of them, and is selling off the one he doesn't seem to be using much. but knowing him, he'd want a mint for it.

Yup, I think I know the same guy Phil. Does he drive a white GSR with the plate 'b4evos'? If so Ive been to him and he has parts but waiting on email for price. Ive spent bucket loads of money on this car, but to me I enjoy it and enjoy drioving it, so isn't it worth spending money on something I enjoy?

Gonna cost a small fortune to fix though as either the whole front has been pushed back or the side panel by the wheel on the left has been pushed up and the panel on the right has been pushed down slightly, but that might just be bent as it still lines up with my door. Also my glovebox and a couple mounts inside have been bent a little

Anyway, Ive pulled my stereo and speakers out of it and waiting to hear back from the insurance company so I hope they let me keep it so I can either decide to fix it or sell and buy something else..

  6. Pulled the heart strings of the assessor guy... I was only ever gonna get $1,000 for it, but he said since its been in my family for 20 years he'd leave out the fact that it has chassis damage in his report and I get to keep the car and it stays registered, plus I get my payout minus towing and crushing costs ect so I'll prob get around 600-700 or so.

So I think I'll keep it and sort out wether I want to fix it or sell it later on because I have another car to drive atm which is lucky! :)

  7. Been in a similar position, this is the quickest, most effective way:

They'll tell you they will write it off and offer you fuck all.

You have to write a letter of complaint, probably to the other party's insurance company.

They'll still tell you they will write it off and offer you fuck all.

You then ask for a letter of deadlock. This rings bells and they'll try to please you.

If you're not satisfied with what they then offer you, you will have to get in touch with the insurance ombudsman.

They hate this, as in your case the ombudsman will likely decide in your favour and what the ombudsman says, the insurance company has to do.

This sounds very interesting. Can you explain what a letter of deadlock is?

What I was going to do was if they say write it off then I was going to cancel my claim and keep the car (Insurance company told me I could do this).

@CUL8R I dont see any thing buckled and the doors close exactly the same and sit in the same position as they were. Only thing is my glove box and a couple mounts down by my glovebox and stereo are slightly out of alignment but I'm sure I can prob take my dash out and straighten it.

  8. Went for a drive on sunday and thanks to the stupid woman behind the wheel of a brand new holden commodore I now have a car that looks like this :evil::evil::evil::(:(:(

    th_P1010187.jpg

    th_P1010190.jpg

    th_P1010191.jpg

So the story so far is I'm insured with AMI and they wouldn't insure it for anything over $1,000 and the chassis is bent at the front ect so they will write it off. The assessor is gonna look at it tomorrow and make a decision and they'll most likely say to write it off.

I'm not really sure how the whole insurance process works because I want to keep my car and fix it as Ive spent 5 years on it already and been in my family for 20 and I'd rather not lose it to insurance company.

I also got a call from the other party's insurance company (The woman who crashed into me) and they told me her claim has gone through and that she was completely in the wrrong and they are prepared to pay costs so does that mean my insurance company will assess it and write it off or do they go to the other company and get the $1,000 from them?

Since they are prepared to pay costs does that mean I can get a quote and claim againsed the other persons insurance company for the repairs?

I really dont know how this is supposed to work, but either way I'm not going to give up my car and If I have to I might have to get the money out of her another way. Any help or advice will be much appreciated!

  9. not trying to sound like a prick.......but

are you sure its actually the bumpstops? would be worth having a peak under the car wile someone is jumping up and down on it, and source exactly where the noise is coming from....might just be something silly....

    woth a shot anyway

Haha yeah we did that and thats how I found out its the bump stop, but only the left hand side..

  10. Prob completly wrong

Would tightning the 'U' bolts under load somehow change how the leafs bind together inturn changing the spring rate/stiffness?

Think that may of been of 0 help

I think EX lancers have a 4 link or similar setup with coils - no leafs.

was it a 1600 or a 1200 to start with? heavier diff with same springs/shocks = more suspension movement? seems unlikely though. stuffed shocks maybe?

is the car sitting any lower than before you changed the diff? missed out installing spring seats or something?

It was a 1600 to start with and I was told it was from a 1600, and I'm pretty sure it is as it seems to run at the same rpm in each gear as it did before..

The car seems to be sitting about the same as before and mechanic told me my shocks are fine. Maybe need new springs? I havent had a good look at it yet cause I dont really know what I'm looking for or what I'm looking at

Another thing I noticed is that its only banging on the left hand side.. Does this give any clues as to anything I should check?

The only thing I can think of is maybe it was because my jack weighs like 45KG's or something and was sitting right at the end of the boot.. Before I changed the diff I had 5 people in the car towing a trailer and didnt notice any banging noises, but it could have been riding on the stops the whole time lol

Any info or advice is always appreciated :)

  11. I hope someby has some ideas on this..

Just replaced the diff assembly in my EX. Its just the standard one from 1600cc, but Ive noticed now when driving its hitting the bump stops even going over small bumps, but I did have my trolley jack in the boot and one person in the back, but Ive had 3 people in back and towed a trailer with no problems before I replaced it.

When we did all the bolts up we did it with no weight on the diff, but was suggested to me to bolt it up with the cars weight on it but it would stress the bushes ect? I'm not sure thats correct..

Cant really take it out for a drive as it has no WOF atm so I'm looking for any ideas of what I can look at why its hitting the bump stops all the time??? :?:?
