  1. Awesome is that GM556 a 0.27uF like my old one or different? Just trying to figure out oif the old one was proper one or not I replaced cap, rotor, points and adjusted points. Havnt done leads yet. It used to only miss when going constant speed in third gear and when going really slow in 1st/2nd or when I accelerated only a tiny bit in 1st and 2nd or when decelerating but if I accelerated it would stop.
  2. Got one with different rating cuz I'm not much of a mechanic lol So I went into repco said "I need a new condenser, heres the engine and chassis #" and thats what I was given. I told them "This is a different rating to the one that came off it" and I got told "well this is the part for your car that shows up on our computers"... Tried asking for one with the same rating but "they dont have access to that information.. only what parts go to which car" In my defence, I only go there cuz its a 2 min walk down the road So the new one I got is 0.22uF and the package says: BOSCH GM553 CONDENSER GM553-C F005X047223AN The old one broke so the wire got cut off and not much wire left on it.. I could join a wire to it and put a connector on it but its easier just to get the right on if I can or run without one.. they're cheap as chips. Thanks for all your help
  3. Bump. Def misses alot more.. Does anyone know what rating condenser EX Lancers with 4G32's have?
  4. Ive got a completely stock EX if you need any more help. I dont know any technical stuff but can take pics and stuff if you need, just ask..
  5. Hey guys, I just bought a new condenser for my EX as I thought thats what might be causing some issues I have. The one I took off is 0.27uF and the one I put on which I got from repco is 0.22uF and I think the car could possibly be running worse now (but could just me be ) Will this make a difference? And does anyone have a 4G32 out of an EX that they can check or know what rating condenser I should be using? Thanks in advance
  6. Whens this on TV and whats it called? gonna make sure I dont miss it!
  7. Yup, those are my plans Just I hate knowing its not as good as it used to be and not know why lol
  8. Fixed! The point gap was written on the rocker cover lmao Also set the idle speed to 700rpm (near enough I think) and seems to be running smooth again just have to figure out why it dosnt have all its power..
  9. My point gap got changed to the wrong value and now the engine misfires all the time. Ive set the timing to 5 degrees BTDC again where it should be. Was just wondering what the correct point gap, dwell angle and idle speed settings are for my car? Ive got a few books out from the library and they say.. Gregory's Mitsubishi Colt RB-RC Series 1982/1985 1.4-1.6L Distributor dwell angle: 48-52 deg Distributor point gap: 0.45-0.55mm Engine Idle Speed: 800-900rpm Haynes Mitsubishi Colt Lancer 1974 to 1977 1200cc 1400cc 1600cc This one looks like it has the chain driven 4G32 in it and it states: Distributor dwell angle: 49 to 55 deg Contact breaker gap: 0.45-0.55mm Engine idle speed: 700±50rpm Gregory's Sigma GK-GN Series 1984-1987 1600cc 2000cc 2600cc Contact breaker gap: 0.45-0.55mm Distributor dwell angle: 49-55 deg Engine idle speed: 850±50rpm They didnt actually have a manual for a Lancer EX so I'm a bit clueless.. Are any of these the same or are all these different to my car? Be cool if anyone has a copy of the manual and can scan the page or give me the figures if possible.. Another quick question, on the rocker cover it says the timing is 5 deg BTDC at 700rpm so do I turn idle speed down to 700rpm, set the timing then turn idle speed back up or is the 700rpm the idle speed? Any help and info would be awesome. Cheers
  10. My mate had some degreaser so we sprayed that on and over the engine bay then got the water blaster on it.. looks much cleaner now. Also re-sealed the rocker cover and dont think any more oil has leaked.. Engine is dry. choice!
  11. cool, ty, wondered about this info
  12. Oh, cool, sounds really easy.. mean, will get some of this stuff
  13. Is it just a spray on job? thought I would have to wipe the whole lot down or something lol
  14. Awesome, ty, he's blind so that could be why he couldnt find it
  15. Friend just got a Mark 5 Cortina and he wants to adjust the idle speed but dosnt know how, does anyone know? Dont know any info about it, except that its 4 Speed manual. I'm sure theres heaps of people on here who have owned these cars and can help. Cheers
  16. That could be really cool if you could help me do that.. just gotta see what happens though.. will let you know.. Thanks!
  17. lol atleast I knew not to do that! I have another fuel pump if need be.. it still works fine, does that mean its still fine and was just leaking because of too much pressure or oil? Also, I'm curious does anyone know an easy way to clean oil off without taking engine out? Kinda sux my clean head has some oil on it now lol
  18. I dont know if its leaking out of the pump itself but theres oil around and below it and it only got there after I changed the oil but I'm not too sure what I'm looking at..
  19. Yeah, I'll have to do that but will have to wait till I get some money and someone to help me adjust them lol Thanks everyone, glad I drained some out cuz Ive heard stories of bad things happening when oil has been overfilled. Usually I put in roughly 3L and then put some more in small increments but I usually have to top up a little again later so I put the whole lot in this time. Lesson learnt.. will make sure I do it as I always have next time. Thanks everyone
  20. That's bone dry, when you drain the oil there is no way to get all the oil out of the sump as it sits in the very bottom below where the drainplug is. I always put through about half a liter of fresh oil while the drain plug is still out so it runs through and displaces most of the old oil. Also oil filters have shrunk smaller over the years. The original filter size from 1981 is probably alot bigger than the generic filters you find on the shelf now. A good idea is to fill it up about 3L, then keep checking the dipstick after adding oil about 250ml at a time. Then after running the engine check the oil again when it's cold and top up if needed. Also, you said fuel filter - surely you mean oil filter? If you changed the fuel filter instead of the oil filter doing an oil change I would be worried. Ahh.. that makes sense, I just drained a bit out and its now near full or right on full so I hope theres no more oil leaking down the side of my nice clean engine.. well was clean.. Thanks for your help everyone
  21. LOL I didnt even realise! I meant oil filter lol I changed both, Its been leaking out the side a bit and looks like alot out by the fuel pump..
  22. Saw this last night at te awamutu mobil, looked mint as on the outside. Ride height and wheels look nice too, Good Job on building it up to what it is now
  23. Yeah, I got the GTX if I remember right.. Another question, it said to put 3.5L in without replacing fuel filter and 4L when replacing fuel filter so I did 4L and replaced the fuel filter and the dip stick says Full (3.5) and its about almost half a litre over that. Is it too bad to have it over filled almost half a litre? Thats interesting about the valves, if I get them adjusted again I might try 0.1 and 0.2 like you said. Valves openeing up more sounds like a good idea
  24. Soo.. Its better to have the valve clearance adjusted smaller rather than larger? Other than noise whats the reason? Oh I forgot to answer your question fuel, they were adjusted right after I had been driving it so engine was hot and they were set to 0.15mm and 0.25mm. So you're saying they must just be set too lose fuel and the different viscosity oil is making it more noticable?
