  1. I was wanting to travel up for this on Saturday and compete but last time I had to be there the night before for scrutineering. Does anyone know if this is still the case?

I wouldn't make it until mid Saturday morning so looks like I will have to miss this one.

Last time I went I loved the oldschool cars that were there, in particular the amount of Valiants was impressive and the mid engined V8 LJ Torana was impressive too.

  2. They all have one thing in common.

I love these, they were fun to watch with there softly sprung road going suspension. Many of them drove to the track then they raced them.

BTW the first pic is Gibson Ford Falcon GTHO - J. Harvey Holden Monaro GTS 350 - Bathurst 30/3/1970

Fred Gibson was a good driver in his day and became a great team boss, I used to frequent the Randwick workshops often in the early-mid 80's and see what he was developing and also oogle the old Nissan Turbo Group C cars.

And nobody could tell me what model the last one was?

  3. VF? Im sure its a Val, just getting the models mixed up.

    Yea well done mate :)

    1970 Chrysler Valiant Pacer

    245 Hemi 6 with Carter 400 4 Barrel carb.

    211bhp @4800 rpm.

    0-100 kph 8 seconds

    185 kph top speed

    Standing 400m 15.9 seconds

  4. Shhhh.... don't tell anyone but I used to own one in OZ, I used it for my lawn mowing business, 1000cc rear engined. Funniest thing that happened to me in it was I went to do a U turn and the side of the road had a slight grassy rise on it when I put the front wheels up on it the back left wheel lifted off the ground and I lost traction and become cast! It was balancing on the front left and rear right with it rocking on the other 2. I had to get out and push it backwards.

  5. I went to they guys on Durham Street near the overbridge in Sydenham. They told what I needed to do and I went home and did it and it worked. Done this several times. Free assessment and treatment by Dr G (Me) cant fault the diagnosis but the Doc was ugly as sin.

  6. It would have been dam awesome to watch them full noise.

The last time I watched a rally live was in 1980 I think, The Motorgard and it ran through the Nelson Lakes areas, Golden Downs Forestry and also Lake Rotoroa back road to Murchison. Datsuns, RX3s, Mercedes 450s, Escorts, Chevettes, I dam near creamed my jeans then and probably would have watching the Silver Fern Rally.

    Love the BDAs

  7. whats the absolute best old school car for $7,000-$8,000

    requirements are:

-doesnt drink petrol to the days

-is moderately easy to work on

-parts relatively easy to get hold of

will be looking to spend this much at the end of the year so give me some suggestions

    chuh

If I were lookin at that it describes alot of cars that were pre 82-84.

I reckon you should look at a few other things like are you going to use it for Cruzin or for Fun or both as this would limit it. How many people is going to carry. I may be biased for the GM-H stuff but parts are dime a dozen, a 350 Holley, Head and flows on a 186 or 202 is economical and fun in a little Torana.

I paid $1500 for my LC and $600 for my injected engine which came with wiring loom, exhaust, computer, Kelford cam, 12-port Yella Terra Head, 5-speed Toyota and lightened flywheel. Look and wait for the right engine to turn up and you won't be unhappy!

Check this page for fuel economy figures on the standard motors, and the breathed engines get better than that.

    Chrome bumpers are great :D

  8. I weighed mine in at 1050KG and have a grand total of just 158 rear wheel horsepower at a lazy 4800rpm.

Yea I tried the 3.08 gears and I thought it was quickish and then tried the 3:55 and immediately picked up the pace and less tyre spin but I have had to learn how to get this little baby off the mark with skinny rubber. I have a VL diff I was thinking of doing but now I have a spare LC/LJ I figure I'll just narrow it and slide some 235's under her instead for now.

I think I will put the Koni shocks on and soften them to the max for Sindays drags (Southern Nationals), Its gonna be a great day with some fkin brilliant cars coming in for a real boys noise day, I will be watching the action and drooling!

The coytina sounds like it had some big problems alright, an old Streetstock I had used to do that every now and then for absolutely no reason as it would suffer from oil surge and lay a thick haze of blue smoke in my 253 HT.

That Fairlane put a smile on my dial as it gave me good memories, always liked em and always will, is it running the standard 302 donk?

  9. looks cool dude i luv these old torries wish i still had mine these blue/black motors respnd well to forced induction too. your already half way there with efi. check out my old one on cardomain

Love your old Torry it looked like it was a real nice show piece, it was interesting that your quickest on street tyres was 14.2 as my 14.3 is on G-Grid II street tyres only 195x60x14 wide.

My goal after I settled on the injection motor was to get it to do a 13 second pass normally aspirated which I am close but may need a rebuild before I achieve it.

My biggest problem to overcome is that the engine fails to rev past about 5200rpm unlike the carby version red motors I have owned that will rev willingly to 6750rpm when breathed. I have an Intercept Link and Tuning Module that I want to try out but to get it revving by the sound of it I will need to get a new ECU and start from scratch. Unless someone knows if I can feed my ECU with a false rev reading so it thinks it is doing 5000rpm but its actually doing 6000rpm.

  10. Well the engine bay is messy at present and more functional than pretty. I will eventually pull the motor down and freshen it and when I do that I will paint the engine bay. I have been lucky with buying the bits and this car is definetely a budget build and I am hoping I have a 13 second quarter miler for under $6000 spent on it.

I have alot to do under the hood when this happens so it will be a summer job and probably coincide with a new WOF first so I have plenty of time.

I am loving this site with heaps of chrome bumper cars :D

I am a new member and drive this regularly and am slowly building up my pet into an everyday driver/club racer/ DYO drag car. I was a bit slack for a while but I have just splashed out on a few things for her. I do have a crossmember modded for a small block chev but I like the EFI six for now and I dont really need to strengthen or cert anything.
