  1. According to a Top Gear book I got for christmas,

"Iran's most popular car, the Paykan, was killed off in 2005 after almost 40 years. The Paykan, which means 'arrow' in Farsi, was finally axed due to its gas guzzling and smoke belching, which had become unacceptable even in one of the world's most oil-rich countries. The car, which started life in 1967 as a Hillman Hunter, struggled to better 12mpg of leaded fuel, but it was a huge hit with drivers in Iran as it was so cheap. Some 40% of Iranian drivers, including vast numbers of taxi operators, drive the Paykan, so the smog won't exactly disappear overnight."

  2. Nobody should know that off the top of their head!

Nice car - don't slam it on chromiez boy racer stylez, but sort out the exhaust (without using a fart can tip) - no point having a V8 if you can't hear it!

It's funny how every automatic Toyota, from the luxury ones to the crummy cheap ones, seems to have exactly the same gear markings for the automatic. Same font, colours, size etc for P R N D 2 L. You'd think they'd put a bit of effort in for the Century and do the writing in fake gold on shiny plastic wood or something..

  3. The bumpers stop at the wheel arch flares, they don't run right up to the edge. What would it look like if you did the same with the stripes?

Especially if you're going for a Ford GT look and getting a V8 in the future, you've gotta work in a hood scoop. And maybe a rear window louvre, for that Westie period finishing touch. :D

  4. Name: Ben

    Location: North Shore, Auckland

Cars you own: 1988 Alfa Romeo 33

Mods to them: sports rear muffler, upgraded sounds, steering wheel, added driving lights and electronic rust protector!

How you found out about oldschool: Followed a link on http://www.mmc.org.nz

Anything else you want to add: My car is wannabe oldschool. Even though it's only 18 years old, Alfa had been using that engine since 34 years ago in 1972. I've still got no aircon, no power steering, no fuel injection, but I do have rust and rubbish electrics. And thirsty old twin carbs. A car magazine from the '80s said "Critics may point to the 1.5 and 1.6-litre four-cylinder marvels from Honda and Toyota and scoff that [Alfa] bolting on an extra carburettor is more back street tuning shop than multinational car company circa 1985.."
