  1. Hmmmmm not really too sure on some things. I'll take some pics of the engine bay later and let you be the judge. As for the rear seal I don't think that's too bad atm as the leaks are all visible from the top of the engine. It seems to come out of everywhere though so may need a lot of work done ie even the spark plugs get oily and leak.

  2. Got pissed off with the old piece of shit distributor cap too and found a mini one fits perfect so can put normal leads on. Well pleased.

Running well now with all new leads and plugs and big bro tuned it. Does use a lot of oil but that's to be expected. Any good tricks for sealing up leaks though? Have replaced the side plate gaskets twice now and used a shit load of gasket goo stuff on it but they still leak. Goes through (in leaks) 3ltrs of oil every thousand kms which can't be normal.

Also does any one know the stud spacing on Morri's? Want some nicer wheels and want to know if they're the same as any other cars?

  3. I have an old '57 Morri' Minor with a huge 950cc engine.

Have had a problem that I can't seem to solve for a long time.

It's like a riddle or something that you don't know the answer to and I'm hoping someone can slap me over the head and tell me it's something obvious, cheap to fix and easy to fix.

When I drive at high revs (by high I mean when I'm going 50km's or more) the engine cuts out.

But only for a second since I can push in the clutch when it cuts, release clutch and it fires back up (if I'm in gear of course).

So I've tried to narrow it down to what it could be.

So far I have replaced the coil, fuel pump (twice), spark plugs, flushed out fuel tank and lines and cleaned carburetor.

Even double checked it wasn't fuel lines by putting a fuel can in car with petrol and running a new fuel hose to the fuel pump but no success. It did run a bit longer than usual but not sure if it's just 'cos the engine was hot. I did notice though that when it stopped and I didn't start it straight away, the fuel pump went nuts (like my old one used to) with the loud dry-pumping noise it gets with no fuel.

Running out of ideas and money at this point and really just don't know what it could be.

My brother in Hawkes Bay suggested problems with tappets, timing, resistance or points.

If anyone else has had a similar problem or reckons they know what it might be pleeeeeeeeease help.

  4. What's a Datsun 120B ? :P

    You'll want an A12 or A14 or A15 out of either a Datsun 120A, 120Y, 140Y, Sunny, Vanette

Haha... ummmm that's what some guy said a few days ago but when I was googling around I found he was wrong.

Do any of them need any mod' to fit in?

  5. My generator is stuffed on the Morrie. Was just wondering if it'd be a better option to put an alternator in.

What kind of work is involved in this and what kind of alternator would I put in??

Picked her up for $750 a few days ago. Figured it's cheap and there's no rust. No major mechanical problems. Runs quite smoothly really. Just a bit annoying having to crank start her every time. (Good ol' crank)

Here she is by the way.

  6. OK well didn't find another escort.

BUT I did get another car.

    Older, slower, classier.

    Old '57 Morris Minor

Got her off Trademe for $750 and she's in pretty good condition.

Has been painted in the last few years (home job but it's OK). No rust other than a couple of bubbles on the boot.

Needs minor work on it but it's a pretty sweet ride.

I hear Datsun 120b engines and gearboxes fit right in.

Is this true? Is there any other Datsun engines that fit?

Or if anyone has an old Datsun engine laying around for cheap :)

  7. Oh shit - so did your seat collapse back or something. That's nasty. So that is what 70's fords do in a roll over. Kinda worried :?

Na, I wouldn't be worried. I think if it was anything modern I would be dead.

I'm still gonna get another Escort when I find one!

  8. Na got it here in CHCH a last June. First owner was a woman who gave it to her son (for some reason it was significant for the guy i bought it off to mention the son was gay) who sold it to the guy I bought it off.

    Why is that?

I've only ever seen one other purple escort and I WANT IT.

    It was in CHCH too

  9. No serious injuries. Had a souvenir in my head (piece of glass)

Happened on my way back from Auckland on the Napier-Taupo Road.

Slipped on the road, it was very wet, hit gutter on my left, swerved AWAY from a sheer drop over the cliff and skidded out. You can see in one of the photos where I hit the bank twice (front and back) and then rolled and slid.

The missing wheel was found 1.6km down the road. The axle snapped (looked like a clean cut with a very good saw).

Just sad to see her go.

My Girlfriend who was in the car is alright now, just sprained and bruised.

Not a good way to end a holiday.

  10. Well my car has met it's end.

    A very sad time.

It served me well and now will maybe get turned into some cutlery or a 'nice' new Japanese car :(

If anyone has or knows o fa cheap Escort-MKI or MKII, I'd be keen to get another one. Probably saved my life having an old car with decent F*cking metal on it.

Here are some photos of my crash.

Happened this past Thursday, 19th July 2007

I heard about that I'm fucking gutted about it.

    All that. Gone.

    Rotten cunts.

Damn right they are (budget) ripped me off on a bloody carb. Overcharged and it was the wrong bloody part. Now I'm forty bucks poorer and have a useless hunk of metal sitting around.

(never mind the retarded quoting capabillites)
