  1. Hey just spend a few days messing with sons one of these after an unknown oops jump starting. Check the fuel cut off solenoid thats is on the first jet but not the second on the carbe. Get someone to turn the key on an off and listen for a click and the carb each time or leave the key on and unplug the connector leading up to the card it should go click click as you make and break it. No power on this wire causes the car to run like a haunted shit house fine at full noise but won't idel or run smothly down the road. Link that got me to wiring dia http://actualrepair.com/starter-repair/ it was compressed with rar that was a pain and had to print it all and cut a tape it good thought it was quite clear. Funny thing about the wiring dia is the the relay should have switch power to the starter soleniod and key on power to the carb soleniod this one was the other way around so stuffed relay was not switching power to the carb solenoid = crap running. This was after doing all the normal electric stuff as above. This one here is running sweet now and also check the 2 smaller wires connected to the battery + and running to a plug connector close to the battery make sure they are in good nick

Just checked this and it all seems to be in good order and clicks away when I unplug/plug it in.

Had another go at valve clearances and it runs so much better. Still has the miss but isn't affecting driving. It does have a bit of a tap so I will check in proper light if there is any wear. Still not 100% I have set the clearances properly but it has made an improvement nonetheless.

Also had a proper look at my coil and the numbers etc I found read - Bosch .08

    -1 +15

    F000250007

    908 986

    Su-12R

  2. Just tried to do the tappets but I think I've fucked up. Set them to 5 and 9 as found on club k but now has a noisy tap, first time I've ever done it so very possible I did it wrong. I did notice one or two of the exhaust valves has a bit of play in it. Might need to take it to mechanic to get tappet clearances set (unless any OSGCs wanna lend a hand). Will get a coil tomorrow if I get a chance.

The miss seemed to be all the time before but I guess I didn't pay too much attention to it first thing in the morning. I can't find any part number on the coil as the label has peeled off.

  3. It did do it very occasionally and subtly from a few weeks after I bought it. When it misses it is in wee clusters almost and the whole car judders so you are moved in your seat. Feels almost like it's lost power for a split second then regains. Am getting a coil to start and will work my way through all the replacement bits to eliminate them one by one.

  4. Haven't got any major plans other than a few mild boso stz for it but just wanted to put something up.

Have owned it almost a year and could never go back to anything other than a wag...

    Only plans really are-

-Fix the problem behind it's annoying miss FIXED

-Find some jap rims and get some stretch on

    -Mingin' oil cooler out front

    -Front lip

    -Boso 'zorst

-Replace rank tints (full of bubbles)

    -Fix rusttttttttttttt

edit: Also for list: convince wife that it IS a good family car and we don't need to sell it

  5. Does it all the time ie. Idle, acceleration, cruising. I have a vac gauge and have been keeping a close eye on I and it doesn't do anything odd other than a slight drop of about 1Hg every time it misses. Will have a go at doing the tappets tomorrow, do I set when hot or cold?

  6. Went back to mechanic and he lubed it up and re-set the gap on points and it's running a lot better but still not 100%.

Am going to replace coil and see if that helps as the one that's in is extremely hot when running and I'm running out of ideas.

  7. For those who are interested.

Will take a side on to show the 215/50 still on the back. Doesn't look too bad but thinking of getting 205/60 or sommit but will happily roll with current tyres for a while.

  8. Will ask mechanic on Tuesday exactly what he did.

The new points he put in on Friday are wearing the same as my old points that were in before he recond' it so I'm thinking maybe the shaft is bent and he didn't pick up on it?

Would an electronic ignition be all good even if the shaft is bent as a quicker upgrade and fix if this is the problem?

Would replacing plugs/leads/rotor/cap be any use as they all look fairly new (I haven't replaced them since buying 8 months ago)?

  9. A work mate suggested putting half a cup of meths in my fuel to draw out any water that may be in the system. Anyone tried or can recommend for or against doing this? Just had a look at the points and they're not looking too bad but have signs of wear. Last ones had worn unevenly and Were almost gone in two months. What could be causing it?

  10. I've been having some issues with my KE70 for a while with it missing. Does so when idling and driving and causes it to jerk and judder. Is worse when cold but also plays up a bit once it's up to normal running temp. I have just had the dizzy recond' and new points and timing set on Friday (ran fine for about twenty minutes after which was just long enough for the garage to close and it won't be open til Tuesday). Advancing the timing makes it a wee bit better but still not great. Occasionally it stalls when idling too. Is this likely to be a problem with the coil/dizzy/plugs etc or is there somewhere else I should be looking?

What test can I do to establish the cause of the problem?

  11. I've got something like that for the back seat of my car and they're three point

Need to put up more pics of your car tbh. Dying to see the seats down in double bed stz. Also my bro has a Austin 1300 and needs belts. What brand are they?

    Think this thread is hijacked...
