Bolt it in, from memory?

GX71 did sweet skids with altezza torsen. Better than the shitty G series clutch pack in the 81 (which is shimmed and had the preload spring modified)
Mind you, 195/45/15? vs 255/35/18 probably makes the difference.
Just lock it

20w50 is pretty oldschool. Go with something thinner imo
I'm not sure if your engine requires loads of zinc, but you can get a zddp additive and add it to any oil you use.

No intercooler? Spray and pray
We need a cheapo drag car challenge like performance forums. Some damn good reads on their 13s for $1300 section

Looks legit to me, just has paint taken off?

I vaguely remember that haha. It gets quite a bit of attention.
At first I just bought it as a cool runner but have been really enjoying it. It may even get some attention once the shed is built

Big 3 day weekend. Netting, drip edge flashings, paper and corrugated iron all done.
Pretty stoked with that.

Slow progress is better than no progress, right?
Purlins complete, all brackets and brace straps done. Ready for roof.
Dug out about 1-200mm of grass and soil ready for base course later this week. Thanks to Mark and his little digger.
I missed cruising in something made in the 1970s so bought this RN40 Hilux lol

27k for the materials incl concrete. That's just the shed itself without doors and windows.
I've borrowed about 3x that for all the other gubbins. My labour and tractor/digger are free which saves a shiiiit load of money.

Awesome! I'll have to show Wayne the photos
Might whip the sump off it tonight or tomorrow and assess the damage

Hi Guys, sorry its my first post but I thought id help out with some info on the dragster.
My old man built it a while back (early 00's at a guess) for a guy that used to work for him. it was built as a basic entry point to dragracing. really simple all steel chassis with a basic carb'd SBC running methanol. it had a turbo 400 as a tranny and a basic Mark Williams diff from memory. Bryce (dads employee) ran it for many years and from memory won a championship or two it. years later I got my first drag racing license in it and raced it for a couple seasons winning the NZ nationals and a number of other meetings running in modified. I had it running low 9's @ 140. My brother then took over and got it down to 8.8 @ 150. it was extremely consistent and a great car.
The guy we sold it to put a new body on it and changed the seating position as he didn't like how laid back you were when we built it. I think its looks much better with your changes to the roll cage and im really interested to see how you go in it with the different engine.
Side note - made me laugh that you haven't painted the trailer - My dads company is RPM and my uncles was Carlsons kitchens. hopefully the floor in the trailers better then it used to be (had lots of holes back then)
If you need any info I can prob find the answer
Cheers
Todd
Thanks for the info. It's pretty cool to hear some history on it.
The guy who bought it from you must have been tiny as the seating was very cramped. That's about all we've changed chassis wise, I guess the last guy changed the cage?
We haven't really got the time to paint the trailer as the owner is super busy with work, but it may happen eventually. The main focus is to get the car running properly (and not spit rods through the sump!)
The trailer has had some extra flooring put over the top of the old stuff, but it really needs re-doing from scratch as it makes it hard to load with such a low car. We have to jack the drawbar right up just to get it in. It's a bit of a rigmarole at the moment lol
You wouldn't happen to have any old photos of it?
-
Wayne bought the chassis mostly complete (minus engine), which I think it was built in 2006 but I can't remember who built it. Then he bought the sb2 separate and did some mods to it.
We've changed a few things like the seating position, wiring and general stuff. Some of it's a bit rushed and rough but does the job!

Bad luck man! I've had an lc1 for years and it just keeps on going, it gets used every day at the moment.
Can you send it back?

C dragster with an sb2.2 nascar engine, converted to meth injection and de-stroked. Budget spec

Today didn't go so well for us.
First run, Wayne went out and did a 10.7 @ 122 on his first gentle license pass. Everything was going well at this point except for the chute not popping properly but we were pretty happy with that and the chute was an easy fix.
Second run, I went out and it felt awesome during the burnout, backed up and after finally staging properly it bogged hard off the line, got out of the throttle then gave it another stab and it took off much better. Big vibration through the steering put me off so backed out real early with a 13 @ 90 lol. My first ever pass down a proper drag strip!
Turns out one of the rear wheels had come loose!? Vibration fixed.
Third run, once again It felt fucking magic during the burnout, but bogged again on the launch and it took a while to clear it's throat so ended up with a 2.3 60ft. Pinned it through 2nd and 3rd but it didn't feel like it wanted to scream like it normally does so pulled the chute. Did a miserable 12.6 @ 116
Towed it back to the pits and some guy comes over and says "you guys left a trail of oil down the return road" so we looked over everything obvious, nope all good.
Then I had a look at the sump... It had a small hole and some rather large big end shaped dents in it.. wtf!
There's always next year I guess.. Hopefully it's just crank & rods and not the block as well. I'll have to take some photos of the carnage.

Waiohine gorge, possibly?
Ah yes, I may have a similar "shelf" myself

Shit that looks like a lot of work! Inspiring to say the least.
Amazed and also jealous of bushy goodness

Sure is!

Love it.
How do ya get consent for something like this without having detailed floorplan? Do ya only have to state what is going in and not where?
I have a floor plan but it's super basic and not the actual design. You can usually get away with changing stuff from the plan that isn't structural etc
-
Coooooool.
How big is it? Can you show us a floor plan?
Is it a kit of some kind, or have you done all the design/plans yourself?
12x12 / 144m2
I looked at a few plans and drew it up exactly how I wanted it, then gave my plan to ITM and they got Mitek to draw/engineer it to suit. It's still a very basic American style barn design.
No real floor plan yet. I'm still designing that bit as I changed my mind last minute. But I will upload some pics once I've drawn something.

This is dream spec. Cant wait to see it done.
Live upstairs sort of deal?
Living in one bay (48m2) and bedroom will take up the rear half of upstairs (another 24m2 ish). I need the front part of the middle bay for a 2 post hoist
96m2 of workshop, which is smaller than I currently have at the olds farm, but it will be much nicer and better set-out.

I should add that my memory is terrible. But I'm 97.3% sure that's how I did it.
