  1. I used to have my Avenger race car registered as a class A exempt. But because it was only used on closed roads or curcuits then it was sweet.

I think it was like $60 a year when I used to do it and I had no problems switching back and forth between class A and G. You still need a WoF but it was just cheaper and it means I can park the car outside my house etc without getting a ticket for no rego (I got a ticket for an Avenger wagon I had parked on the road outside my house with a rego on hold)

Class A doesn't mean farm vehicles, as long as you stick to the following then it is all legit.

"vehicles used on a road that is not a public highway, vehicles used on public highways only for inspection, servicing, repair or for a practical driving test. (Please note that you can only drive vehicles without a WoF or CoF on the road for the purpose of bringing the vehicle into compliance, and it must be safe to be operated for that purpose)"

  2. Yeah it is pretty night and day on an Avenger but that same article has a guide on how to modify the weber to get finer fuel droplets which boosts the HP of the Webers by about 3HP but the Dellortos still beat the Weber by 11HP. In Group 1 racing in UK they were stuck using Webers because it was what the Avenger Tiger came out with but you were allowed to modify the internals of the carb. All the open class Avengers back in the day used Dellortos due to the extra power you can get out of them.

I did heaps of research in to Weber Vs Dellorto when I built my race car. But as I said before most if this info only applies to engines like the Avengers which has tiny little combustion chambers and hates large fuel droplets.

Anyway that is enough ranting from me.

  3. IMO dellortos look better

Damn straight. They sound better also.

if someone wants to lend me some webers we could do a comparative run?

This is from an old acticle by David Vizard about tuning Avenger engines I posted on the Avenger forum. Dellorto Vs Weber at different temps. You can see a big drop off in the Webers. But that is only due to the Avengers engine design.

    Carb Dellorto Dellorto Weber

    RPM @70° @88° @88°

    5000 90HP 87HP 84HP

    6000 118HP 115HP 107HP

    6500 125HP 121HP 114HP

    7000 128HP 125HP 119HP

    7500 132HP 128HP 117HP

  4. On both my Avengers I run dual Dellorto DHLA40's.

On the Avengers the Dellortos make much more power due to the finer fuel atomization. This make a huge difference due to the head and small combustion chamber. So in that case the Dellorto is the easy choice.

On the other hand my Chargers has a 265 Hemi which on the E49 etc they run Triple Weber DCOE45's and because of the larger Hemi combustion chambers they like the larger fuel droplets of the Weber. So in that case Weber is the easy choice.

I don't know what the heads and combustion chambers are like on the Pinto engine so I can't say which is better on that engine but myself on a small engine I would lean towards Dellortos.

  5. Might be a more suitable post for the "DSLR Photography" thread in off topic.

    ^ This.

Head on over to there, that said. There's nothing special about those particular Freshly Whipped photos. You could take any of those with a decent P&S.

Agreed, I could take those shots on my little Panasonic Lumix TZ-7 P&S

  6. Mancrush: OS whip, photography AND a 550D. I'm saving up for my first, thinking either 550D once stock runs low or a 600D once I have enough.

Since you used to work out in Hendo Valley, you'd know the Westfield Westcity carpark right? That topmost floor of parking is pretty nice, plus late at night there's always all the other floors beneath it, as long as it isn't a weekend or Friday night.

Haha, 3 OS whips at that. But yeah the 550D is a great camera. Richie has a 550D also. When I brought mine I did heaps of research and I found that the 550D is the best value for money DSLR in my price range. The 550D and the 600D are pretty close. The only real differance on the 600D is the pop out screen but I do most my shooting with the viewfinder so I couldn't justify the extra $200 odd for a screen I will rarely use.

Lower floors at night could be good. I could always pop out there and do some test shots to see how it goes.

  7. Can do similar enough with a chase/lead car.

Yes but it can be hard in tight areas and it takes a lot more coordination in keeping the cars and the same speed and same distance apart for the length of the exposure.

I remember seeing a pretty shoddy homemade GoPro rig for someone's drift car, pretty hori DIY job but I don't think I'd ever want to risk it with something like a 5D body.

What about supermarket carparks, the open-air sort? Westfields usually have nice top-floor parking, with overhead lighting.

Yeah I don't think I would even want to risk it with my 550D.

Only problem with mixed lighting sources is you have a bit of trouble with white balance at times but it shouldn't be too bad. also it would need to be a carpark we can have all to ourselves because if we want to do single car shots we will need a lot of room and we don't want ugly newschool cars in the shots.

One thing about underground also is it takes weather out of the equation. We don't want to organise it only to have it rain and mess up the natural lighting.

    Or something abandoned

Abandoned buildings are great. I used to do work for the Henderson Valley film studios and I took my car out to do some shots out the back lots which look like abandoned warehouses.

  8. Yes, That could be good. Richie has some great shots of his Trump in an Underground car park.

I quite like the look of an urban background as a background for car shoots.

Speaking of car parks I have always wanted to do a shot like this one.

    113_0501_01z+1970_plymouth_barracuda+front_left_view.jpg

It is done with a pole attached to the car then digitally removed later. Don't know if I would want the risk my camera like that aye.

  9. Yeah I think that would be a bloody good idea. There are heaps of us here who are into photography so it would be cool for everyone to rock up and get some flashy pics of their done.

I think if we dedicate enough time for it we should be able to get some really good shots of single cars plus so group shots.

How extreme do we want to go? I would love to do some shooting with a full on lighting setup but that would probably cost a bit to hire etc. Because most of my photos are at public carshows I don't have the ability to set up lighting etc.

Next idea would be venue. Do we want to do outside? if so then we probably don't need lighting but we would need somewhere with plent of room and a pleasent looking background preferably with the plent of open space behind the cars so I can blur the background if needed. Although with my new 50mm f/1.8 you can get the depth of field pretty shallow but you need to be quite far away from the car.

If we wanted to do an indoor shoot then we will need lighting etc.

Anyways I am really stoked with the idea so lets see what we can do.

  10. Hah not sure about a battle but if you're keen to get out and shoot some pics sometime then sing out :D

Haha, true. I would probably lose in a battle anyways but an OS car photo shoot day could be pretty cool. Everyone just bring their cars and we photograph the crap out of them.

  11. Cheers man, managed to get natural lighting that was almost bang on.

Would you believe me if I said that last shot was taken handheld, with the shutter open for a full second? It was :D

That is pretty awesome doing it hand held for a second. Top work.

I must say I am pretty impressed with cannon image stabilization lens but holding it that still for a second is pretty legendary. Tip of my hat to you good sir.

makes me want to get out and take some more pics with my camera. Photo battle?

  12. Yeah I was really happy with the price for the amount of work he did on the seats. They look really good now and feel much better with the new foam and rebuilt base.

He is also doing my new dashboard and a new rear parcel tray for me.

  13. I got it done by a guy on the north shore. Grant's Auto Upholstery.

Cost $190+GST to have both front seats repaired. He replaced the foam in the drivers seat base and rebuilt the whole base then replaced the 2 ripped sections with new vinyl before vinyl welding all to small rips and dyeing to match the rest of the vinyl.

The passengers was pretty good to begin with so he just welded the small rips and dyed them.

  14. I have had heaps of air leak problems in the past both on my Avenger and Charger. Charger air leak was caused by a blown diaphragm in the brake booster and on the Avenger it was a leak in one of the carbs.

Both caused the same symptoms as you are having.
