  1. cool, where did you find that old bus? looks just like one I used to own...

also with your wanting to put a cam in it, I would put a better carb on it first and you will find it will make a bit of difference, The Current Carby is off a 1300GT Escort, so it runs out of go higher up in the rev range. could be fixed by putting a 2L carby on it. worth a go anyway....

  2. hi,

    welcome to oldschool

you can use either mk2 cortina or consul 315 front struts, i believe you need to use a different TCA for a few components to line up, i can confirm this with a mate who has done the conversion on his anglia, where abouts in NZ are you?

i also have a few mk2 cortina struts/calipers etc if you need a set

    cheers

    Karl

  3. So what've you got now,

Saw this parked near guncity/henrys liquor on way to work this morning, on ford rostyles.. Improvement

yep tis my beast now... park it there when i take it to work... had those early Capri/mk3 Cortina GT rostyles at home and thought they would look mint on it...

  4. a mk2 tank will fit in a mk1... it will give it better capacity. also mk1 tank has alot narrower filler neck than a mk2. pretty sure that wee plastic disk is a breather... some cars have tanks with them some without....

  5. non of the clutch/pressure plate was touched when the gearbox was removed, another exact gearbox has been put in its place. so it is mighty strange, the only thing added was the sandwich plate as it didnt have one... using a mk3 cortina crossflow floor change box

  6. Unlike some of you guys I only have one car...lol so its gotta be back on the road asap.

    oh snap.

dont worry, it wont be long untill you "cant say no" to another cortina, then its only a short ride to 4 cars rusting on the lawn.

we've all been there, its just a matter of time..

good work though, keep fixing and learning, soon you'll be able to tell Gaz how to re-build pintos (because they need re-building every 50 miles or so  ).

    sheepers.

    QFT - 8 MK2 Cortina's at last count

  7. home made, they never made a mk2 ute...

the chassis tag on carjam reveals the following info...

(based on a English Assembled 1968 4 door super)

    Right Hand Drive

    1297cc, High Compression Motor

    A Floor Change

    Axle: 3.900:1

    Manufactured: Dagenham, England

Bodyshell Type: 95- 4 Door Super

Date of Manufacture: HA March 1968

there was a similar one in a wreckers in greymouth. when i went to check it out about 3-4 years ago it had been crushed.

    Cortina%20sign%202.jpg

worth $200 of anyones money even if you end up wrecking it. floor change box is pretty rare if its the factory one. if it has the original seats they will be the same as GT ones etc...

  8. i have a pic of one with the heater core plummed up correctly, I will find it for you, the heater core is most likely stuffed, they crack around the base of the pipes. last one cost me $30 to flush and re-solder at the radiator shop, the worst thing is taking them out, you have to remove the heater box from up under the dash... its a real pain... also that long plastic piece looks like it goes on the bottom of the heater to direct the air out...

oh and also i only have a spare brown console, it is missing most of the plastic covers etc... but has a clock... let me know if you are keen and i can get some pics of that too...

    cheers

  9. windscreen rubbers are generaly between $150-$200ea, door rubbers are as Gaz said about $90ea. you cant get the factory seat pattern any more either, i have seen a couple of people put a fabric insert in the seats, they do look pretty good with it done. i may have a spare console, will have a look for you... also will more than likely have some spare window winder plastic backs...

    cheers

    Karl

How do you know no one has the factory seat pattern anymore?

I would be stoked if you found a console!! Plastics for window winder and also door handle

    Do/did you have a cortina?

I have looked around for that pattern and the exact factory one definately isnt available. I ended up cutting up a good bench seat for the fabric, but they are pretty hard to find now too. I definately have a spare console but will need to keep the best one for my car... and have an icecream container full of those plastic disks...

I have 8 mk2 cortina's in various states, plus a lockup full of parts etc...

  10. Good stuff, good to see it has the GTE interior! I love my rear GTE seat with armrest

I think I may have a door card thats better than yours also, its black tho.

Your not going to like the price of those door rubbers that are stuffed! I just brought one... $90 bucks posted I think it was!

    Gaz

Yea the interior i great. Just missing the GTE console.

Im deciding about getting white door panels if i do the 2 tone seats. Is there a place I can get them recovered? or buy the facbric and cover them myself?

What rubbers did you get for $90?? Just the one?

windscreen rubbers are generaly between $150-$200ea, door rubbers are as Gaz said about $90ea. you cant get the factory seat pattern any more either, i have seen a couple of people put a fabric insert in the seats, they do look pretty good with it done. i may have a spare console, will have a look for you... also will more than likely have some spare window winder plastic backs...

  11. cracked dash isnt that expensive to fix if you don't mind getting your hands dirty

should have pictureized mine more

fill the gaps with resin (or if you cheap like me, glue from a glue gun) then fibre glass the top, sand and cover. sorted :D

I was quoted 700 from someone un aucks. Did yours come up looking like new? I had a quick look at your pics. is the first pic of the dash b4 or after?

ahhh dashboard restorations. will basically make it like brand new with the correct grain of finish, because it is a GTE you may want to do that, if you can keep it as factory as possible it will retain its value, a really original GTE sold down here for $15k.

i had one the same as yours, blue with blue interior, needing restoration, sold it for $2500 in 2006

  12. I have the red mk2 that is shown in those pictures, it is what those 15" globes were originally on... and it has some pretty heavy rolling done for them to fit, or you would need to skim the inner face of the wheel down? they look great but dont fit to good unless you modify them or the car...

  13. being a 2l it should be a ford c3 box, the borg warner was generally in the mk1 and 2 corty, can only imagine that a seal somewhere is crook, i do have a good 4 speed and a manual pedal box etc sitting here if you need it. also did you end up finding a seat?, i have found a pair of them, not mint but alot better than what was in your car...

    cheers

    Karl

  14. i got a pertronics setup for my mk1 cortina's lucas distributor from a company in chch (cant remember which place) he said not to use a static generator gt40 (the funny shaped one) as it is to powerful and will damage the electronic module. a standard gt40 (cylinder type) is ok tho...
