sounds like the turbo will be the problem, i recently replaced the one on my 2.8 bighorn. as it had the same issue as your van
-

-
motor will be out by the weekend Dan. sorry i haven't done in yet. earthquake/civil defense stuff at work got in the way.
-
i went and collected the donor vehicle today
-
sweet score.... looks like a good one
-
sweet, the pinto should make it go pretty well in comparison to the 1256. got the crane here when your ready
-
pinto conversion?
-
got some here if you need them mate
-
i know someone who needs a mk1 cortina bonnet bringing down, I will find out some more details if you like?
-
How? I don't recall swapping my piece of shit Mitsubishi for a bigger piece of shit (relative to my case only- both the vehicles in your instance seem tidy enough). I sold it (parts) for a good price, so yeah, not really comparable at all.
It looks tidy and all, but that Cortina seemed pretty sound, and they go for good money usually, versus small change Chevettes (I recall tortron couldn't sell his for tuppence for months). Like I clearly said, if you're happy, who cares? Apparently you do. I'm not sure what you expected, you seem aware you got the rawer end of the deal?
Good luck with it man, your plans sound good. Can that paint be clearcoated? Would look 8405802458 X better
my comment was semi in jest haha, no offence intended. Just thought (from what ive read/herd) that you may not be the best person to be judging people on their vehicle antics
the cortina was fucked to be honest. the engine overran, blew smoke and was on its last legs. the gearbox was also fucked. the body had rust coming through and was in dire need of a panel/paint.
like i said, i wanted something that didnt demand so much time and money, and as far as I can tell, the chevette fits the bill.
If i had spent the time/money fixing the cortina, then yes, it would have been worth alot more than the chevette, but i didnt, and didnt want to.
And also, I got the cortina for a hillman hunter that i payed 400 buks for, so im not complaining (sorry karl haha)
Any car is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it, no matter how sweet/shit it is, and in this case I was willing to pay what I had, therefore I dont see the problem.
doesnt worry me, i payed $2g for that corty... i personally would of taxed a few of the bolt on accessories off it first to pay for the mods on the shuvit. would of given you a set of just legal rims for a box of piss. chevette owner would of still been keen on the swap without all the good stuff on it if that makes sense
-
andrew you are mental... especially if you left all those awesome bits on the cortina and "gave it away"
and in regard to the shuvit.... "chuck a pinto in it"

-
umm gonna stick em on one of the cortina's probably the red gt sedan, whatever one i can get road legal first as i havent had road legal oldschool car in ages.
-
no worries, didnt have any of the single masters left so got one off a mate, will ask the same mate if he has an alternator bracket as i deffinately dont have one of those either.... also should have some more coin to pay you for the rest of those mags
-
same as escort. also finally got a master cylinder if you still need it.
-
sorry heading down south on friday, and im still useless and have no going oldschool car next time hopefully

32dfm is the 1600gt cortina webber, they are quite hard to obtain now, i only have one on the cortina wagon, might be easier to get a 2ltr one re jetted to 1600, I have seen a 2ltr carb used on a 1600 just fuel economy wise they are piss poor, may be ok to diagnose the fault with your car though?
Mk2 Cortina bearings in strut tops?
in Tech Talk
Posted
The early mk2's have a specific top that only came out in that model. The MK1's cortinas tops are different. I asked around down here but it seems no one has any they want to part with. you can change to the later series2 strut tops but you will need to change the inserts too as they are different. Your best bet is see if they can be re built or try and source replacement series 1 tops ovreseas/ebay etc.
