  1. Picked it up off Trademe. Really cheap too, its the mongoose kit.
  2. Im converting mine to electric for that reason, plus im too lazy to wind the windows after having electric for the last 5 years Unfortunately still gotta have a winder unit in good condition for the electric ones.
  3. I ended up just buying a whole other escort for parts, got some mint winder mechs out of it. And the problem is that the old ones get the sides sheared off so moving them closer wouldnt help
  4. Ill look into that thanks, think I might write up a how to on all this when Im done to save headaches for others. Most of the write ups gloss over a whole lot of stuff, or only have half the info, guess they assume us weekend mechanics actually know what we are doing
  5. Yeah, thats why I said its probably a stupid question, just wanted to make sure, as the motor is like 10 years older than the gearbox
  6. Sweet thanks, I searched loads, dunno if people were using werid abreviations or something but I only found info on 5 speed to xflow posts.
  7. Probably a stupid question , but I cant seem to find the answer anywhere. When bolting a sierra 5 speed to a cortina 2ltr pinto, what flywheel/clutch/presure plate should I use? Im guessing all cortina stuff? I also read that you can use the Escort auto prop with the sierra box and it just bolts up? But they didnt say what engine they had, Im guessing an Xflow, would it still work with the pinto?
  8. Yea I got quoted 12 bucks per metre for steel lines, got told copper ones are too soft and wont get certed, but dont understand that as the original ones are shit plastic things.
  9. Nice one, thanks guys. Now I just need to get the time to do it all
  10. Lol if I can get that many yea Just realised I left out fuel lines in my list. Where would I source some lines or get them made for the 2 ltr conversion? Or did you guys make them yourselves? Would rather goto Steel or Copper lines rather than the crappy plastic ones.
  11. Shes finally down at the panel beaters getting the major damage fixed, which there isnt much of as I found out it had 1 owner from new for 20 years, all the dents were done by the 16 year old kid who bought it off that person. I was going to put the flares back on the wheel arches, but the more I looked at the cut away arches, the more I like them (apart from the hack job the last owner did on them). So I decided to just get them reshaped and welded up, should end up a bit more unique than most Will post more pics once the panel beaters are done with her Attempted to get the 2 litre out of the Escort shell also, which turned out to be a nightmare. The sump was cut away so close to the cross member it was impossible to seperate the gearbox from the engine inside the car, so going to have another go this weekend, just going to remove the whole front end and lift the rest of the car off with a tractor
  12. Haha, well Id have to find out how easy they are to get hold of first, my sis is currently looking around for the parts at the moment. Probably know next week sometime.
  13. Sweet as, just need the dust shield then. Is all the other stuff pretty much right? Im getting my sis in auzzie to send over the 2ltr escort parts.
  14. Read that to fit the sierra 5 speed to a cortina 2ltr you needed the cortina bell housing?, it has the sierra housing on atm. The dowels match the sierra housing but there are 2 bolts which have nothing to bolt into down the bottom. Or am I missing something?
  15. Just want confirmation from anyone whos done this that this is all the parts Ill need for the Pinto into esky conversion. Ive searched on every escort forum I could find so fairly sure Ive got everything, but would like it all there when I goto put it in so checking just incase - 2ltr Escort Engine mounts. - 2ltr Escort Sump/Pickup. - Cortina Throttle cable. - Cortina Speedo cable. - 2ltr Escort Extractors. - Cortina Radiator. - Steel Fuel Lines + Pipe Tool. Im also putting in the 5 speed sierra, so just confirmation on those parts too. - Short shift/modified gear stick. - Standard Escort Crossmember. - 2ltr Escort Cross member lowering blocks. - Cortina 1 piece prop shaft. - Cortina Starter motor? Thanks.
  16. Plans changed a bit, picked up a fully rebuilt 2ltr and sierra 5 speed, with a dreg escort mk2 shell for $380. So out with the 1.6 and in with the 2ltr. Now just need to get the sump/engine mounts from auzzie.
  17. Cool thanks, is just 2 tie downs enough? Or did you use 4?
  18. Bit of a noob question but Ive never used a car trailer for a mk2 before. Where are the best places to use the tie downs on a mk2 without damaging the suspension etc? Was thinking just through the windows, but that could damage the doors? Thanks. Rednfast.
  19. Its for as wide as you want providing the tyres dont extend beyond the car body. Guy at Elite said I could extend the ghia wheels upto 1.5" over standard before they became illegal. Standard ghia wheels are 5.25" I think.
  20. Checked this with the cert guy here in CHCH a few weeks ago, he just said get it done at Elite, keep the recipt and theres no problems for certing.
  21. Finally started on her this week. Completely stripped out interior. Fitting new carpet and door trims. Waiting for wheel arch repairs before starting on body work.
  22. Pulled off the Inlet manifold, carb, crank vent, and fuel pump. Cleaned the fuel filter and retightened the pump cover. Cleaned the crap out of the pump rocker mech and squirted in some WD40. Pulled out the valve in the crank vent and setup a hose to connect to a catch can at a later point. Blocked off the crank vent to inlet manifold pipe on the manifold. Replaced the gasket between the carb/manifold with a much thicker self made gasket. Put everything back together... the sound is gone! No idea which thing fixed it unfortunately. The pump seemed ok apart from the dirty filter and all the sludge in the rocker joint. Crank vent is just an annoyance I felt like fixing at the time, though I guess the valve could have been faulty. Mani/Carb gasket was just too thin and was getting quite wet around the throats, so I guess there could have been a pressure leak here, nothing obvious though, mainly I just prefer my own gaskets as I can cut them exactly to the required sizes. Thanks for all your help guys.
  23. Ok now Ive pulled off the rockers, retorqued the head nuts. Reset rocker clearance, tripple checked clearance. Changed the oil (was getting black), and oil filter. Noise is still there but slightly quieter. Easier to pin point it now its quieter and its definately comming from the Fuel pump area. There is also a rattle/scrapping noise comming from the same area when its cold, once its warm the rattle is replaced with the whine/squeal. Still got the blue/white fumes wafting out. Dont really have much time at the moment to sort this out, so may have to bite the bullet and take it to the mechanics, gonna grab a stethascope from SCA first and have another listen.
  24. Been wondering about them too, ta. Think Ill pull off the rockers and retorque the head and then reset them at the same time.
