  1. Cheers ears!

While the old boy had done a great job of the rear end conversion, this junction detail here had me concerned about moisture ingress. It has an "internal gutter" for want of a better word underneath but I wanted that to be the last line of defence, not the first:

  2. Swage lines! That sounds so much better than "logs" hahaha...

Where about's did you work Chris? It was a bit of a mish trying to find cladding or even a wreck to take some off so ended up just making it ourselves. Measured once but it didn't feel right and realized I had to offset the measurements a bit to allow for the shrinkage from folding. Thankfully came out pretty good for a first try.

All sorts of toys! :D Hopefully by the time it's done it will have space to fit at least 3 - 4 motorbikes, or a kei car (anything up to 3m long or so depending on the bumper set up) and/or a dingy and still sleep our family of 4 and be self-contained. AND still work as a functioning office too! Bring on the working holidays... haha

  3. Shot guys, thanks for the info.

Appreciate the vote of confidence on the "affordable" rubber, good to hear first hand opinion.

And cheers for the vote for lacing up the front hub to the back rim. That pic is pretty much what I'm after! I'm guessing since I'm dropping so much diameter size, I can afford to go with the higher aspect ratio/profile? (i.e. 90 instead of 80) Found this guy online based in Auckland http://wheelandspoke.co.nz/services.html

Not sure of the rear wheel width, I see I wrote it down as 17 x 215 but that can't be right. (Have left the bike up at bro-in-laws for the day, so can't double check). Could it be 17 x 2.15? I have read some people saying its a toss up between running either a 4.60 or a 5.10 for the rear tire width. Presume it's safe/possible for me to go a size up to 5.10 on the rear, because as I mentioned, there's a fair bit of space and I can't see a moderate increase causing any issues of it rubbing on anything. Is that a normal thing to do with bike tires?

  4. Hi y'all, I need some help as I'm such a wheel noob!

I have a KLR250 with thick knobblies on it that are needing to be replaced. They are on the stock wheels.

Since I use it for commuting mainly and they are sliding out on the road, I am wanting to put some Shinko E705's on it:

    image.png.2c3c848ae6d2dbe10a0da09b15505e9f.png

The bike currently has a 4.50 - 17 120/90 knobbly on the back with a 17x215 rim, and, a 3.00 - 21 knobbly on the front. I want to go motard style on the front with a wider wheel. There is 120mm space between the shocks.

    My questions are:

    1) What's the most affordable way to widen the front wheel and have a smaller diameter (17 or 18")? (Buy an aftermarket wheel? Buy a second hand set of wheels and swap the rear rim and spokes over to the front hub? Would that fit?)

    2) How wide a tyre can I fit on the stock rear rim? There is a fair bit of space on the swing arm and the chain isn't an issue. I presume you can only put a slightly wider tyre on the stock rim?

Appreciate any help by those more knowledgeable than I.

Well, I live here. Are you local? I pine over bikes and there aren’t many around here that do. Keen to pine over yours sometime.

    This is great news.

That looks cool, I like the wood gran. I would be the one you got the motor off

Oh choice, thanks man - it's still going hard! Just got some new clutch plates for it cause the clutch is on the way out, but other than that, just gave it a paint and stuck it in. Only had to do the intake pipe and that was it :D And the rest of the XR200 went to a good home too with some local guy wanting to retro upgrade his suspension (as I hear the '89 was better than the '90+ or something?)

On another note, I redid the rear number plate holder which now doubles as the rear guard out of 3mm aly flat bar - way more sturdy. Also fitted two new little LED rego plate lamps top and bottom (cause of the curve of the plate it needs two haha) and pillion pegs for the WoF. I tried to argue that it never had rego plate lamps, but if that's all it needs I don't mind. Also redone the muffler bracket so it's a lot more sturdy now and hopefully takes the pivot stress off the head :D

Next up: going to have a crack at making a bit of a tracker-type tail thing for it so I can relocate the tail light as it keeps rubbing on the rear tire and I don't know how much more they can both take haha....

  7. So this lil bronze bottler won "Best Bike" at Distinguished Gentleman's Ride in Tauranga out of 140 or so bikes that attended - whoop whoop! Not too shabby considering it was one of the smallest and cheapest there haha. Check out the link below to more pics from the day:

  8. Back guard needed to go, and got annoyed at the prospect of having to make a plate holder and another smaller rear guard so came up with this idea. Hopefully it's WoFable? :study:

Also was going to go full LED with the lights but thought I'd keep the stock brake and indi's as they have grown on me. Hard mounted the indicators to the frame and relocated the taillight to the seat.
