  1. I think i have a spare set of lines and a cooler from a turbo sigma also.... Its not as big as my one, and more squarish.... same as a 90's-ish VR4 i think.

Ive just moved and my shit is everywhere, but i'll find it and let you know :)

The oil filter blocks with the oil-cooler lines should fit and NA motor without an problems, theres really bugger all difference between them :).

  2. I think I've got a spare one... I'll have a look later on tonight.

Engine is getting put back together with new stuff to power the starion :).

We found the source of the knocking... big end no 4 wasent looking to healthy! (no bearing left at all)

Oil had a nice metallic shimmer to it.

  3. Well, while waiting to pull the motor out, as its a bit of a 2 person job, i had a go at cleaning up some of the interior. Last owner must have been a smoker because holy fucking shit does it stink in there. Seats were taken out and a good vacuuming commenced. Came up alright for a first try. More involved cleaning can come when its actually back on the road.

At about this stage i opened up the boot and started emptying all the shit in there out... Holy fuck what a mess... At some stage someones spilt a LOT of sugar in there, its gotten pretty wet and formed gloopy messes everywhere :(. That fluid you can see pooled at the bottom of the wheel-well is actually dissolved sugar. Its thick and syrup-like... tasty. I bet my car is sweeter than yours, for real. Anyways, after getting in there with the hose and scrubbing brush it came up 'aiight, smelt a lot better also.

That white power ain't cocaine, grrrrr.

My oil-cooler is huge and awesome.

  4. Some of you guys are being pretty stereotypical.

I wear hoodies, dickies and ocasionally i wear my hat to the side. im not gonna go break into some ones house and steal their shit tho. I understand its fucking lame but dont lump people into catergories based on apperance.

You make a good point, i was jacked up on coffee and cheap speed when posting lastnight, so i do take it back.

  5. Anyone can do whatever they want to their car, and it dosent bother me. It often provides amusement, a few giggles. Its when their behaviour directly affects me that i get annoyed. Best example i can think of is my flatmate... He sold a couple of items on trademe. The clowns that came to pick them up were 'fully sick on tha drft scene yo'... Hats on sideways, pants (dickies ofcourse) around their ankles, huge fucking hoodies... you get the picture. We were at time time helping out another guy with a turbo conversion on his S14... These clowns asked to take a squiz. What they were really doing was case-ing the place for valuables.

Came home from work the next day and sure enough, garage door is all busted up, intercooler for the s14, turbo and a BOV were all gone...

Thats how i see the state of the 'car scene' in ChCh these days. Its not worth stopping to chat to someone with a nice car anymore, or commenting on someones ride at the gas station... You have to be so damn careful, its sad.

  6. Fuck yes, I've got a nice intercooler to go in the front, its got a fucking huge oil cooler in there already, so thats sweet. My flatmate bought those Mitsy turbo bits on trademe, there were a couple of TC06's in there, so I'll do an 05/06 hybrid and she'll be cranking :). There are some 12" thermofans sitting at work for me (im a repco slut)... Thats about as far as you can go on mods with the factory computer before shit starts getting fucked up. Should make for a sweet machine though... Burnout action coming this way.

  7. Motors ready to pop out... only thing that stopped me doing it this evening was removing the interior trim and shifter itself.... Haven't done it on one of these before and it was a little involved, and it was raining, and I'm a fucking pussy...

But i am off work for another 7 days, so i've got nothing but time, baby.

  8. Yes, well, I need to make up my mind and actually get a car running! I've purchased a rather fubar'd sapporo... It goes BANG BANG KNOCK KNOCK... But i do have that motor all built... hehe. I prefer the sapporo shape over the staz, so its getting the motor for the moment.

  9. Had my exhaust manifold re-surfaced and fixed up, put some new studs in, purdy. Only needed one helicoil. Best of all, its not cracked! finding one of these un-cracked is getting quite difficult. It wont be hanging around for long, but it'll do for getting it up and running.

Mate has some exhaust wrap left over, so i used that, looks the goods now. Hopefully it actually does something as well.

  10. That is true, but would also require a 5-stud conversion, and shipping the parts and wheels from the US would be super expensive... If im gonna do it i'd swap to the bigger LSD and 6-bolt axels/cv's while im at it. Ive got some 15" black mesh wheels with a little bit of dish... they need to be a tad wider, but they'll do for now :).

  11. Yes, i was offered way to much money for the EX, and couldnt turn it down. Theres just something about starions, i _meant_ to own one i think, its a genetic imperative.

I have an MPI manifold sitting there, needs to be cut and shut however... I rekon if im gonna do that, i may aswell just put a twin-cam engine in it. Not a hell of alot more work... Someone offer me a cheap (free) vr4 motor, go on, i dares ya.

Turbo is a TC05 12a, off a factory intercooled starion. Thats why the compressor outlet points that way by default. I have a TD05 12a off a dash motor like yours there aswell, i'll pinch the center out of it as its water cooled and run that untill i get my ass into gear and put on the big t3/4.

  12. (Yes, i know this is a Starion, scroll down a little and see what happens)

I've had a few before, was building an EX when this came up for a very good price, couldnt say no. EX got the biff, and this is the new whip. I bought it with a big sticker reading "Some Assembly Required"... But its all there, and i know where it all goes, hopefully!

    engine011206.jpg

Step one is putting the motor back together and getting it running. New rings and bearings ofcourse, and some higher comp pistons i had from another motor that were in tip-top shape. Had the crank polished up, rebuilt the head aswell. Put some blanking plugs where the jet valves used to be. Havent tried them out before, so i sure hope the head dosent crack... ;).

Only colour i could get 2.5" hosing in for the cross-over pipe to TB connection was blue, so i went with a blue theme on the rest of the motor also. Sand-blasted the rockercover, polished up the lettering, masked it off and sprayed. Looks damn good. I did the same for the ECI-cap. It may be a shit system, but damn it may aswell look good.

Rebuilt the glorified carburettor that is the single point injection system while i was at it. I've never seen an original one that dosent leak, they all need a good once-over by this stage. Removed the EGR emmisions crap, tidies things up heaps.

  13. Thats very intersting, and worrying information... I was under the impression the GSL and Sigma crossmembers were identicle. Fucksake! This could definatly be interesting.

Possible to modify the sigma bottom arms at all? weld up the old balljoint holes and drill new ones 10mm out? Sounds a bit dodgey however, lots and lots of load there.

  14. I swapped vented turbo sigma brakes into my EX. First i tried putting the sigma knuckles onto the lancer bottom arms, and bolting in the entire strut (with lancer top-hats swapped on ofcourse). It all looked sweet... But the vented rotors are alot wider and scraped on the bottom arms when it was all bolted together. Swapping to the sigma bottom arms solves this problem, as they use a bolt on ball-joint. Unfortunatly, they are marginally longer, so it'll affect track and camber.

Lesson: Dont use the lancer bottom arms, use the sigma ones.

  15. I've seen a few of these posts on forums, people complaining about stolen shit, now its my turn. Mate of mine was selling a T4 turbo on trademe. 3 guys came to look at it, but didnt take it. Next day he comes home from work to find a whole load of shit missing from his garage; our other mates intercooler for his s14, and all associated piping, the t4 turbo, another turbo, subs, a blow off valve... All the boy-racerish type shit that wasent bolted down.

Word to the wise: If you selling something on trademe, definatly dont let anyone coming to take a look at the item get a peek at anything else you've got lying around.

Now, its not definate that it was the same 3 guys, but no one else even knew the turbo was there. Im not big on stereotypes, but these guys were defiantly the type, all dressed the same, dickies, dc's, hoodies, you know the look.

    Fuckers.
