  1. Not sure. Apparently just timing and checking everything has been done right. The motor has been swapped because the old one was smokey. Ive never played with anything that wasen't fuel injected, or had pushrods, or imperial nuts and bolts! hah! Its going to be a learning curve, but im really psyched :).

Friday will see it going i tentatively hope, and a damn good clean up.

  2. Woohoo, found a Chevanne! I can remember Dad bringing one of these home on a test drive back when i was just learning to drive... was going to be something to teach me in, but it was a bit of a lemon, so it went back to the yard. After seeing a couple of the Chevettes on this site, my interest was piqued, and low to behold, this one was found :).

Why cant i ever buy a car that actually runs!? Add to that the fact i dont have any imperial tools... Thank god i work at repco and get decent tools cheap, or i'd be screwed.

That kit is very very ugly. It will be removed just as soon as i can find an original chrome bumper.

Seems pretty tidy, smells like an old car, thats for sure, but not like a smokers car, so thats a plus.

The spares, not shown is the original engine, which is also included, but yet to be picked up.

    Plans are to:

    A) Get it going!

    B) remove that front kit, get some rostyles and widen them, then lower it quite a bit. Tints, tidy the body some more, and enjoy :)

  3. I've found on in chch. Body looks alright, no majour visible rust, possibly a bodgy repair job in the lower front left guard. Needs some re-assembly, and the motor apparently isnt timed, so it wont start (how dodgy does that sound!?). Comes with spare rear diff and front subframe, and another short block. Has an ugly as hell front kit on it also.

What would one expect to pay for a beast like this? I'm going to make an offer, but i dont want to get ripped off really.

    Cheers :).

  4. Right, sold my Sapporo at work the other day, took a deposit, all good. There was just one job for me to do, replace the brake booster, as it was pretty dodge. I completed that the very same evening, and took it for a spin, the brakes felt great!. Score.

Cue next morning, and there is me cranking away trying to get the thing started! GRRRR! It wont bloody go. I;ve had a quick play this morning... Throttle plate is wet, as are the end of the injectors, but its definatly not getting any spark. I swapped out the computer with one from a starion, and still no luck...

Hmmmmmmmm, fuxake. Looks like i'll have to give the fellow his deposit back (which ive kinda already spent, oops), and just sell the fucking heap of shit off for whatever i can get.

Im kidding, its not a heap of shit really, im just rather angry with it. Grrrrr, argh.

Ideas? Offers of help? Gun to shoot myself with? Chur.

  5. My father has an awesome 76 One-Tonner... its the best work horse you can imagine, its towed many an old mitsy, and picked up quite a few engines in its day. The other night it was stolen from their place in the middle of town :(. I was honestly pretty damn upset, as Dad and I put alot of time into that truck to make it something special. I work at a repco, and put out the word to all the local mechanics to keep an eye-out, and low to behold, i got a call this arvo from one of em saying he'd found it! Just on Q E II drive, by Winter road in ChCh. Ive just gotten it home and am so damn relieved to have it back.

They've taken the deck my dad built for it (was the nicest i've ever seen) and the stereo and speakers... but it still goes alright, and the wheels are still on it.

Im super lucky i rekon, i was absolutley sure we'd never see it again, but its like a family member has recovered from a near-death illness or something, awesome :).

    Chur.

  6. Try checking the voltage at the starter while a mate is trying to crank it over. The cable might be good enough for no drop when there is no load, but as soon as the starter gets hungry for some current it might not be able to cut it.

  7. Vacum line to the map sensor, line to the distributor, line to the fuel pressure reg... Thats about all you really need... There is also one going to the air-con idle up solinoid on the side of the injection mixer, but its neither here nor there. Shoot with any questions and i'll try my best to help out.

I've removed the egr, made a plate to go over it. I also removed the charcoal canister, as its kinda pointless i rekon, and ugly.

Yeap, i've seen the white one in town, would like to chat to the owner at some stage.

My flatmate owns the starion now, and has some forged 20tho over vr4 pistons, and a twin cam head... but it'll be a long slow project.

  8. New wheels, fixed lots of little problems, cleaned up the engine bay alot. Its running really well now, engine hasen't flown to pieces yet, which is nice ;). Its just a little faster than a standard one i rekon, doe to the lack of clutch-fan and no balance shafts. Its almost impossible to drive without boost, as the turbo is so small it spools instantly. No point in revving it beyone 4500 really, as its all over by then, heh. I rekon i could pull a standie at 2500-odd rpm though :). I'll give it a go when it hits the 1000km mark.

  9. New motor is in, interior is all cleaned up, starion seats bolted in with no issues :). I replaced the bent rear strut, with a spare one (also from a starion)

Cranked over the motor for 15-30 seconds with no coil lead to get some oil flowing, then hook it up and kicked it in the guts... Started up first try with no problems whatsoever! couldnt even hear the tappets, wicked. Runs smooth as so far. Tomorrow i'll hook up the fans and actually take it for a drive.
