My apologies for asking about another website... but it don't seem to be working
the few times I've tried? Any body know what's up?
Cheers

driveshaft is not going to come off ive checked that , however i think it could be a weight has fallen off it becuase hte vibration is very high in frequency its a whirrr instead os a whop whop that a out of balance wheel would give me , im going to get tyres balanced anyhow as it is free (start cheap)
and im gonna look for missing wieghts on the d-shaft
Definately check out your tyres as this sounds like it could be a tyre prob'
as in a steelbelted tyre that has a fault (Are any of your tyres old?) It is very similar to a shagged wheel bearing noise...

From what I have heard, the biggest hurdle with falcon exports (apart from RHD) was the I6. To support it in America would mean a large headache for Ford Dealers in America carrying parts, and training mechanics on how to work with them....
The same problem exists with the auto transmissions used in Australia, I.E. the Ion/BTR and the ZF 6 Speed. The yanks dont hold parts for these transmissions, so basically you are talking about the most complicated bits of the vehicle having no real support in the states....
Using the Duratec 35, along with Fords 6 speeder auto overcomes this hurdle, and gives the falcon a good reason for ford USA to ditch the RWD Crown Victoria... (I.E. Parts are shared with the new Ford Taurus...
And here was me thinking the Inline 6 was a reliable old mota... I'td have to do 200,000 k's before they'd even have to think about working on it (Other than the basics) These old girls can do 400,000 k's plus and still go strong. (They will be leaking oil by then and a few would have blown head gaskets)

Yep, anybody doing the free pick up or cash for old cars deals generaly wants an aluminium cylinder head and alloy gearbox to make it all worth while. If you can be bothered stripping any old alloy heads, manifolds and alloy g/boxes it is worth some $ at the mo' , but it has to be "clean" (No steel) to get top $ ($1.70 kg for cast alloy)
Check out http://www.metalcorp.co.nz/pricelist.php for an idea of what
some of them old bits are worth, It's dam near worth stripping the wiring looms out of wrecks too.....

I'm quite prepared for a "Mad Max" kind of existance too,.
Hell yeah. I'm already saving up heaps of steel bullbars for the chevette and a way of mounting a seat on top so I can drive and shoot at the same time. Gunna be epic. And driving on the sand will be mean. I'll steal my flattys isuzu bigHorn springs too. MAD MAX !!!@2!
As it is now whenever I drive past an accident scene I have an overwhelming urge to get out of my car and collect in a bowl the petrol that is slowly leaking from the upturned wreck...
Only thing stopping me is that most the upturned wrecks you see now a days are blardy diesel Suvs!

It's all good stuff to know,
Most the wee rust repairs I have done over the years have just been to keep old shitters up to w.o.f standards, I can see now why I was having too touch them up again after a year or so Any of the better stuff I have owned gets to go to the professionals.
Cheers

...meaning we'll come up with viable alternitives BEFORE it's all gone.
Thats what I'm counting on. I'm hoping that just as its nearing an end for the masses, they will develop a cleaner, cheaper, better alternative that everyone switches to. Except us Then for all the oldschoolers that stay running filthy old gasoline there will be heaps left for us, 'cause everyone else will be using water/bio diesel/horse shit etc
Ahmen to that Boe!
I'm quite prepared for a "Mad Max" kind of existance too, would sure make it easy to get my old project back on the road!

Yes as some one once said "The stone age didn't end because we ran out of stones, the oil age won't end because we ran out of oil" or sumptin like that...meaning we'll come up with viable alternitives BEFORE it's all gone.

Did anyone catch the TV3 news story tonight about the latest thinking
on the Oil situation?
Experts reckon that we have reached "Peak Oil" production NOW not in a few years as they had previously thought
They were saying expect petrol to rise $1 a litre within the next year
Any one got any plans for an oldschool hybrid ?

Yer living the dream! Cheap reg'. I'm assuming it has something about the type of reg on your window label?
-
Yeah, but re-vinning is the big$ that would be the one to bypass
if only...
-
I had considered registering the ute as a trailer... Don't know if it's actually illegal for a trailer with working lights to be on the road by its self..
But this hair brain scheme comes apart as I'm pretty sure you can't carry passengers (that would be the driver too!) in a trailer and you would have to have an "A" frame fitted to it to satisfy the coupling requirement .
Gotta beat the MAN some how.
-
just out of interest, if you put the car on a class a rego, and the rego expires, it doesnt get the d-l33t from the system, as i saw when i was looking into another mini recently, cunt took it in for a wof and got a rego after the class a reg had been dead for over a year.
This could be the wee loophole I've been dreaming of!
the holy grail of avoiding rediculus re-vinning costs!
-
Bugger...
If you have a vehicle that is already EA reg', can it be upgraded to a full reg after passing a w.o.f?
Just wondering about that as I have noticed some potential project vehicles on trademeâ„¢ with EA reg........
Thanks
-
Hmmm, This EA reg' is something I have been toying with for a while as a way of getting a long time de-registered ute back on the road with out the exspense of re-vining it... Can this work? And once it was back in the system could it be changed to a regular registration by just passing a w.o.f?
Please do tell if you know someone that has done this...
There's nothing about this on the ltsa website, but if there is a wee loophole I can't imagine they'll advertise it....
Cheers,

Thanks for that, I was pretty sure that there was some export yellow etch primer in our local S C store (I don't have any desire for my etch primer to be yellow! but I didn't see any other colour.) guess if I'm wanting it to last I should be Expecting to shell out more than $3 a can

Had now idea how much trouble posting on this old thread was going to get me into! I did explain myself in "off Topic" but it was removed...Never to mind
-
Now see that wasn't that hard... If I think an old thread is still relevent cant see any harm in posting on it , saves starting a whole new thread covering the same stuff. There is a lot of good information (And alot of crap ) on here, on those old threads...I have spent more time on here reading than posting.......
Cheers

He he a "Newbie" yeah right! Only 5 days less time on here than you.....Any way this was a relevent thread to ask my question.....SO....
do you have an opinion on the S C paint?

Is that yellow etch primer that you get from super cheap any good... two cans for $6 at the mo'

8)Hey blakamin, if the latter model tail lights that you have for your Merc' are those "louvered" (they have horizontal ridges) type ones then that'd be a good look... Just not sure what would be the attraction in a "purpleish hue" to yor tail lights...Seems like going thru "pimp my ride" and ending up at "queer eye for the straight guy" Lol
Sorry about all the ""

As long as the oil states on the container that it is suitable for petrol engines and is the correct grade you shouldn't have a problem.... Most "petrol" engine oils are ok to use in light duty diesels...just check out the labels.....Where things can get a little messy is when you go form using a "diesel" engine oil back to regular engine oil, especially in old Mitsiys as you will notice an increase in oil consumption...Delo 400 is my favourite for a tired old mitsi. (Keeping in mind the reason people use diesel engine oil in their petrol engined car is because the motor is pretty much on it's way out, it's bugger all of a risk)

Ummm isn't that pin on the crank to insure you fit the fly wheel (That is factory balanced to suit) in the correct position.... May not amount to frig all but it is worth checking out ... Have a look at the outer edge of the flywheel (Back or front) and there is probably some holes in a row on one part of the flywheel they will only be partially drilled... Just a thought.....
