  1. well, thanks for the replies!

Nice dude, what are the plans engine wise?

I rekcon you should grab a full front bumper too, the quaters look a tad funny!

I don't really like chevette bumpers at all, not sure what i'm guna do yet tho. Maybe pf50 bumpers.. just square it up a little..

Engine wise, Piazza twincam, you should know this zep.. talked about it abit.

fucking mint, looks nice on those wheels too.

gonna leave a Chevette front on it or put a gemini one?

Gunna leave tha front for now.. I like this front because so many people dislike it. Something different is always good, even if it is ugly.

I would like to use an early Gemini front but if I'm ever going to change this, its going to be an Opel Kadet nose i think (some how).

  2. My new wagon. Just on my Gem wheels at the moment but I'm thinking

about selling these on the Gem and getting a new look for the Vaux.

Thanks to Niel, who I bought this car off, and his old man for doing the

hard work to get this car looking so straight, and leaving me to do the fun stuff.

Pics are a little dark on some monitors. I'll think about getting others soon.

  3. I would recommend you use the early 18R-G engine. It is a 2.0L Twincam, twin side draft caburated engine. Very good performance (for an old 8 valve engine) and very reliable.

This would save the hassle of using fuel injection where you would have to:

    * upgrade your entire fuel system - quite costly

    * run a large efi loom and a computer - quite confusing (and gay)

Also the early model 18R-G engines made more horse power than the later model 18R-GU and 18R-GEU engines, its only the last model efi engine had a higher compression and larger valves which produced a higher output than the first to my knowledge.

These were available in early 80's rwd cars and should be relatively easy to find, and bolt in without too much hassle.

Oo and as far as Turbo ones, I've never seen one myself, they are single cam and only make 100 or so kw.. you'd be better off to go for a twincam one and Turbo it eventually if you find the need. I was just looking at a finnish site where they were running 1000hp out of one!

  4. I have a G200W twin cam in my other vauxhall. Its all bolted up with driveshaft and everything. Its a straight bolt in using standard xmember and you just bolt gemini mounts onto the G200 block. You need to change the exhaust manifold tho as the Piazza dumps right where you bolt up the gemi mount.

You only need the diesel xmember if you want to use an old 117 G200W as they have a different sump as far as I'm aware.

The ZZ g180w will bolt straight in. Very hard to find in NZ tho as very few ZZ (R/Z) were brought here. Piazza g200w's are way easier to pick up.

Piazza diffs bolt straight in to both geminis and chevettes with the exception of the panhard rod. It goes the other way (right-left rather than left-right if you know what i mean) (It doesn't go both ways like bmwsparkle. :P ) Oh and also the piazza diff is 50mm wider so it fuks with your offset a little.

Those shocks sound mean. My new chev has good shocks but let me know how it goes. They will fit aswell. All the mounting points are identical. Just watch that the actual diameter isn't too large. I had some air shocks in the gemi and they wouldn't let mags go on!

I've wanted to do a TC/TD/TX wagon for ages now (gem wagon with zeps front or a variation of atleast). Ahwell, lotsa people really hate vauxhall chevette fronts so I'll stick with one of them for a little while. Its good to have a car that all the evo/wrx/all other gay car owners loath.

Methodz thats 2g with wheels. Car needs to be viewed tho, its a project not a daily. Its not really bad or anything, just not clean. Guna try suss a warrant in a week or 2 aswell so see how that goes to get a better idea on price.

  5. Nearly there, the ZZ/R and ZZ/Z geminis only came with g180w's, which are obviously 1.8L but yeh these motors would bolt straight in to a gem.

Gearbox xmembers are different between chev and gem. So is the diff, its much smaller in the chev but i'm not sure if they driveshaft is different where it bolts up.

  6. Nah the chevette motor is completely different. Its actually from a viva - imagine how slow those were. Plus its actually a third generation, the first was only 1057cc, the second 1159cc and the final 1256! Its hard to imagine any engines slower than the 1256 ay.

The 1600 from the gemi is part of the g series family which is used in the bellets, 117s, gemis, piazzas and rodeos (maybe some others) varying from 1.6,1.8,2.0 and 2.6 from memory.

I think the gearbox xmember and driveshaft are different, but as far as the engine isself goes, they will all bolt into a chevette if you use gemini mounts (and chop the front out of you engine bay  )

And yea gemi gearboxes are whack the selector is long as and comes from right up near the firewall. Gangletron.

  7. The engines in those vauxhalls are so shit. Is the gem engine the same?
I'd definately buy it for a daily if i had the cash.

G161z are awesome engines bro, mine goes like the clappers :D

    Good work :D

Nah Methodz, gems come with G161z motors which are 1600cc ohc things. They go well, mine struggles..needs a tune up but definately has potential. Alot better than the super dirty 1256 in the chevettes.

  8. Just heard it running. Was pulling out of BK. I was in a green 323 wag staring hard (as ya do when ya see one of these around)

Ahhh tri spokes. Wish you hadnt told me that!

Oh yea i do remember a couply people lookin at me abit funny. And yea it was cold and un-idling. Oi i'll stick up my new vox wagon in that section too.. springs out last night, looks pretty low. Only got gay bickies at the moment.. check it out abit later bro

  9. Running like shit?! How dare you!

Heh nah it doesn't idle when its cold ay, maybe that was the issue. How you know it was running like shit? haha

I'd be after around 2.. maybe abit more depending on interest.

Methodz, your old one drives round auckland with a repainted bright orange roof (the wrong orange) and tri's. Gutd

  10. yeh, I was almost going to leave it yellow with the shopping lists all over it and raise it on some chromes but I thort I'd leave that for the hondas/evos to do :)

I have the business card from lemmington auto elect. It has a mk4 cortina on the card parked next to the gem, stickered up the same. What a park up ay! :?

Oh and nah I don't like these with back bumpers on. Maybe its just me...

  11. You need to muck around with the part that the bonnet clicks into if you know what I mean. I'm looking at changing my gemi front (TE) to one like zeps and it involves welding the valence and that other bonnet part, what ever it is that its called.

  12. Everyone always told me that chevettes and gems had the same body, just the front was different so i thought awesome. I'll get a chevette and put a isuzu motor in it using gem parts. But yeh, found afew differences as I have a gem wagon and a chevette wagon now. The entire floorplan is different, how the seats bolt up. The fuel system is different with different tanks also, gem diffs are far bigger from what i can see.. i don't think it is just a case of changing the head, the whole thing looks smaller in the vaux. Gearbox xmember aswell as someone has already said. I know this is getting abit picky but i might aswell write it somewhere as it would have helped me heaps 2 years ago! haha

  13. my flat mate was doing a 220c (in my sig actually) and he found everything he needed at nissan believe it or not. Hopefully they can help you out. I'm 100% sure he got ball joints from them. Took a couple of days to come down from auckland.

    hope that helps

  14. 18r's deff came out in ronas. My mates got one its only a straight 18r tho single carb push rod and all the cool stuff. Have ta be carefull about trying to put a 18r-ge head on a 22r cos they are push rod aren't they? We were guna put a 2t-ge head on a 3t put then found out the 3t's are only push rod not even single cam. But yea you guys probly knew all that.

Anyway sold my ceda tonight.. woo yeh 1800. Less than i paid but i needed ta sell it.

  15. Wow that ke16 is THE best thing ever!

And rxtoy, this grande has the same motor as mine. It may be called an MX30 tho as the chasers are called RX30's etc. According to alot of places MX40's like mine don't even exist so yeh.. pretty strange.

  16. that orange '79 vox wagon sold for $500 with no wof or reg and with messed up as paint. it was like flaking off.. haha i was guna buy it on trade me but the auction finished at 8:30 on a friday night and i was too drunk by that time. gutted.. haha
