Sounds like you may end up with max charge to 75% ?

Yeah, if the SW find an issue... what a fuck up, that would limit their range quite a bit, they are thirsty beats and are super inefficient  with a 90kwh pack, imagine losing 25% range when it only does 400km on a good day

  2. so i don't know a lot about them tbh. We've only sold a small handful at the yard, and i havent had one in the workshop yet either (touch wood) but as above, super efficient with the tiny battery they have

Another cheap longer range beast is the Zoe. Just get one with a warranty that covers motor bearings and charger and battery. Motor beatings is cheap to fix, just a LOT of labour. Charger is bit more, and battery modules are an issue as there are no new ones in the country, but i've also only ever had to fix one with battery issues, but a few with motor and charger issues. Car is weird and French, but battery is made by LG Chem and is the single nicest battery ive ever worked on

    this seems suspect as...

    image.png.e5d11d700cded4e0c606c5a6aa7fc95c.png

from a car dealer that has pre registered their cars, claimed the rebate for themselves, still charging $500 On road costs and then pricing their leafs at around the same price as most others pre-rebate ~25k. maybe slightly less, but should be closer to 21k if what they claim was true.

i guess the 'priced to match others on the market' is so subjective they can do what they like.

There are rules for that with dealers, they have to hold onto the car for 3 months if they claim the rebate, which is good for demo stock or something

If i can give you 1 piece of advice, but from a respectable dealer that will stand by their shit. Leafs are a GREAT CAR and hardly die, but they CAN shit the bed, and it sucks to have to pay the 7k bill yourself if the shit dealer refuses to honor warranty and suddenly the yard has changed owners and is now owned by xyz's brother, zyx and doesnt have to honour any warranty as it 'wasnt him'

hey @Ned you made comments about steering clear of S trim first gen leafs. does this carry over to the 2nd gen?

Check if it has a heatpump, thats the non-obvious difference that i would avoid. Old small range cars that draw 6kW for a heater from a 50% SoH 24kWh pack means you kill 1/4 your range with heating the car for 30 min.

and not sure what you mean by gen 2, everyone has a different interpretation of what gen 2 is haha. If you mean the 2017 ZE1 new shape ones, then i THINK the UK imports all have heat pumps, bt the jap ones don't? I'm not super familiar with the S as we try to avoid them mostly on our yard

Sweet cheers and what’s the best way to charge them? Keep topping them up or run them low then fully charge? Our situation is We just got a i pace and the wife will be doing about 100 ks a day open road driving

you didnt get a jap import i-pace did you??? call me if you did... 0800 DriveEV option 2

Charging EVs is a question that has no answer... people swear by discharge to 20% and charge to 80%, and the general consensus is to charge it to 100% every so often, but to not leave it at 100% for long periods of time (so dont charge it to 100% and go away on holiday without it)

But then i also look after some fleet cars that genuine live on the charger 24/7 and are always at 100% and overall they are as fhit as all the ones that people have been babying since day 1.

So my suggestion is charge it like you charge your phone. Plug it in at night, every x nights if you can get away with it and dont want/need the safety buffer and just do what makes sense. I charge my car when it gets below 60% usually, but thats only because i know i can get it to 100% during a work day if i dont go much below 60, so if i have to last minute go somewhere , i can be fully charged by end of day if i need to...

What’s the go with charging a ev if you have a place that’s off grid? I know it depends how much power you can make and how you can store it but would you need a massive bank of battery’s?

Just plug the car in and it can be setup to charge on how much energy is being produced.
So with solar plug car in during the day, with hydro or whatever that has a power dump, just dump it into car.

Or charge your batteries as normal, and charge off of them when needed?

Most EVSEs have dynamic load balancing and also 'solar' integration where you can make it charge only of the solar is producing (but you can put the CT onto any old in feed)

  7. I'm staying at the kiwi holiday park in upper hutt which l, as I've just realised, is attached to a disc golf park, and I have my discs in the car! Now, I'm not super keen on going alone because it's a little boring, and I'm not good enough to join some randos...

But if anyone feels like throwing a disc around (I have extras) then hit me up! I'm by no means good, so happy to play with freshies, no experience required, enquire within etc

    Here until Friday AM

Yeah I'd love wheels that are more like that, but I also want brakes that work consistently as its for teenagers without a fully developed sense of mortality!

i dont think you can get brakes that work haha. Maybe try use the sprocket as a brake disc and clamp to it? might work... those drum ones are super shit

Does anyone have plans for a tru-test or similar? Looking at getting away from the 50cc pitbikes we've been building at school as they're $500+ for a kit plus the steel for frame/swing arm.
