  1. 2inch. If its in an escort your limited to size of muffler that can fit under body but 1x resonator mid by tunnel and 1x muffler at rear is what Ive usually run. I used a turboflow type muff in the rear of one setup and it was nice, not teenage loud but not quiet either.

  2. Fark , was thinking legacy but missus wants euro by the looks. Am I nuts buying one / asking for trouble???

She seems keen on that merc wags and I wouldn't mind spending a little extra on upkeep.... Pluses it's a v8 must be good right?

Or Volvo v50 v5 seems good to.

Comonwhore would be a safe bet I'm sure but sooooooo boring.

Not sure bout Merc parts but VW & Audi parts are generally available from ripco now as Jap parts. Id ring them and do some simple price checks prior to buying a merc.

Eg. of costs of stuff I've done recently in my VW.

    - Control arm = 74$

    - Inner steering rack knuckle = $23

    - Tierod end = $28

    - CV joint = $86

    - Filter = $25

    - Requires special grade oil x2 which is not cheap. $150

PS. Holdens/Fords are clunky POS to drive compared to Euro, I will never go back now I have owned a couple.

Also agree with sparkle above, I personally think the gap between 15-20 you dont get alot extra bang for buck. Unless you goto 30 where you step into newer vehicles. Under 15k is where Im looking for next vehicle.

  3. Those Xtrails are fucking awesome value for money, when I upgrade im going to look at them seriously I looked at one for work car an the entry model is 19k +GST brand new! Think thats 4wd 2l version. The 2.5l version was 22+GST but had a few extra upgrades as well.

My middy has one of these as out family wags... http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/volkswagen/auction-746692305.htm

Can 100% recommend them as a middle sized wagon suitable for 2 kids and with leather are perfect for the dog. Heaps of power and not too bad on gas. Share suspension with the Audi so replacement parts are cheap from Repco.

The W8 like ours did have some issues but the facelift model has same power from a reliable as v6. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/volkswagen/auction-766859099.htm

  5. Got a S5 alt with twin belt pulley. Pulled it apart today so I can have it powder coated but might aswell rebuild same time. Needed smaller int reg alt to side mount so it doesn't get in way of sidedraft air flow... (in theory?)

Also have def lost the other engine bay cowl panel. Have asked powder coater to keep an eye out for it but I cant 100% member if I gave it to him or not!

  6. They zinc coated under the powder coat on my stuff to make it last longer, costs little bit more but worth it. Guess its still only as good as the prep that goes in though.

Wonder why they use nickel as the base when chroming stuffs..... cant be arsed googling

  7. I think itll be used about that much ^^^ to be honest. Was building the Chevette up as the everyday cruiser but doubt thatll ever be finished now that funds are......dead/sunk/0

I think thats what ill do with the diff after the new brackets are put on, flapper, etch, paint. Was thinking maybe the perfect use for that hammerite finish paint? Or maybe some of that kinda rubber paint as it dont chip easy.

  8. Yeh I think in this case the prep will be the problem rather than th pc. Items had surface rust and pitting. They sandblasted and then zinc coated but not sure about rust treatment. You can still see rust patches under pc so I am expecting it to bleed out eventually or maybe lift/chip the pc. Looks mint for now and saved me prepping and painting bits/lazy.

I think im still going to get the other suspension parts done once test fitted but maybe not the rear axle.

  9. Powdercoating done. Think I either forgot to send in one engine bay shield or they didn't return it. Prob better check.

Got more stuff to coat at a later date so no real major. I'm not 100% sure its the best way to combat rusty underbody parts but time will tell.

  11. For pricing sake:

Powder Coating Services just sandblasted, zinc coated and then satin powder coated 6 items for me for under 300+. Pretty good pricing if you ask me. Pricing varies by what process you want to use... I.e you dont have to zinc coat, also the coatings can vary in prices also.. some are metallic and obviously more spendy.

    Got done:

    - Engine cross member

    - Large Exhaust shield

    - Panhard rod

    - 3x Small (150x150 approx) panel steel covers for boot/engine bay

  12. Had look last night but laptop went flat. I'm def had it as I mocked up my plate for Rx2. I had thought I got it direct from transport NZ page back in the day. I will have another look when I get a second.

Whats this "Licenz font" though, that's the new one right? (Just incase im getting confused and you already have an old plate font but are not happy with it)
