They handle the power ok if you are kind to them. Will require mounts changed over to suit Leaf spring setup in KE30. No readily available LSD options for S diffs.
Personally I'd probably go E series from a townace/liteace over S series.

Was a crowd up north making them for all sorts, Endeavour Engineering i believe.

Know of 2 other NZ new AE86 in similar condition that sold for $17k & $19K over the last few years, so probably not that unrealistic. Still considerably cheaper than the prices they are now asking for original or fully restored examples in Japan.

Not the same car.
The notchback on trademe was built up from a standard AE85 shell, started around 2006. There was a build thread floating around on Garage Dori forums for awhile, but that seems to have been lost last time the forum shutdown.

Falken ZE912, Available in 195/45R15 & 205/50R15 for a 15x8. Data sheets are posted somewhere in the Tech section.

Can't find the link right now, but know that vehicle must be at least 14 years old before removal of airbag steering wheel is allowed & able to be certified. Also allowed in race car with current motorsport authority card i believe.

Are you concerned about maintaining correct speedo reading? That may impact on your decision. My tyre choice for that size wheels would be 175/60R14, 185/55R14, or 185/60R14 depending on the application. The brand & style of the tyre will also make a difference, generally speaking cheap nasty tyres have a cheap nasty looking sidewall with rounded edges. Linglong 185/55R14s are actually physically bigger than my Falken 185/60R14s.

Have a good look at the copper tracks on the back of the gauge cluster, over time they start to crack & break at any point they are bent or folded, especially around the socket for the wiring harness.

Correct, originally it was vehicles over 20yrs old were exempt from frontal impact & emissions standards but it was capped at 1989. As Orion mentioned above it is now reverting back to a rolling 20 year system

Guy at work has sprayed most the suspension & underbody parts on his Mustang with Hammerite & had good results. I will ask him tomorrow how he went about it & if he needed to thin it down at all.

Photos look like one of the CHCH Club-K cruises, fairly certain the guy that originally built this KE30 & got it certified was on here at one stage, think he went by the name 'repowered'

Yeah normally have issues with this because the cold start is stuffed on most 4AGEs now days, and also the ECU will not go into diagnostics mode if there are other faults present. If dizzy has been out it is also common to install them a couple of teeth out, easier to line up with exhaust side cam cover removed.
Easy way to do it is just let the engine warm up to normal temp, don't bridge diagnostics and set timing to 16 degrees with idle around 850-900rpm
I've come across a few that i couldn't time to the marks, but still ran without issue. In that case just set timing by Ear & how it revs. Sometimes caused by incorrect dizzy being installed, for bluetop there are a few different types, not sure on later models.

Not Ryanfels. Mark/AE25 on the forum

Certainly uncommon in Black, and looks very tidy from your photos. If you were patient maybe $4K to someone who appreciates what it is. General population $3.5K max.

What about Kei cars? There is no different standard for smaller vehicles, still considered class MA. Pre 89 exemption from impact/emissions standsrds still applies.
-
Pickapart nearby? Just head along armed with tape measure & get a nice factory twin fan unit & shroud off something else. Fords & Audis usually have good setups on them.
-
Yeah same as above, guy at work has one, but maybe earlier model than what you looking at. Had it 16+ years and reckons it's the greatest vehicle ever made, sounds like he has never had to spend much at all to keep it going

Actually I was just telling my wife the other day about a fourth one I was thinking of buying, for some reason she didn't seem that keen on the idea.
Any free spots in your garage Luke? Might need to find a hiding space.

much cleaner with the mouldings, love your work!
Thanks! Been following your build on AEU86, really like what you're doing with your Sprinters.
saw the notch yesterday, was looking real good and so clean. Thanks Callum, your Starlet was the best looking car out there drifting by a long shot

Went to RJP and picked up some of that double sided tape Camo_78 was talking about, $45 for a 16M roll, few different widths available. It's good stuff.

Really gutted about this, my friend had owned it less than 2 months. We spent the last couple of weeks getting it looking real tidy.
Thieving scumbags.
